Where do you buy your annotation supplies?
I actually wanted to get into annotating my books but there’s something about actually permanently marking my books that has kept me from doing it. I think I am going to definitely use the tabs but I’m still considering the underlining and highlighting. I have seen the transparent sticky notes which I think are cool, and I may use those instead to make notes in the book instead of marking the actual book. Also, by the way, your room is really cool. 😂
i was thinking the same thing, i mean i don’t mind underlining but I think for writing I would try a transparent sticky!
When I first started writing on my books I used to use a pencil (very lightly) & it helped me get over the mental block of marking up my books! I recommend started w that bc honestly the transparent sticky notes can be annoying to write on since many pens smudge on them

@@kirajulienne, i found some very colorful sticky grid (i absolutely cannot write without some kind of lines, it starts going downhill, lol) notes and tabs on amazon that i plan to buy so i can start annotating my books and not worry about writing in them. i can’t bring myself to mark in them period. what if i decide i no longer want the book? if i donate it, i want the next person to be able to annotate it too if they choose to, but at least i can remove my tabs and notes (and save them) and know that i didn’t mark in it. it’ll give me some comfort in knowing i took care of the book.
I use translucent postit notes 🤩
I color code the tabs to match the cover, and each tab has a respective matching highlighter color and it’s very satisfying ❤
Honestly I’m so bad at annotating! I’ve always wanted to do better with it but never found the time so this is perfect timing! Definitely taking notes ❤ also side note: underlining and highlighting IS completely different and I love your reasoning behind yours lol

I just take the pen and write directly on the page when I feel like it. There’s no organization, that is too much for me to worry about- I’m trying to read! Too much for me. You could start out by just writing freely on the page, that way you at least have your thoughts on the page to look back on later. That’s how I think about it at least

Thanks for your time with this video. I’m 63 - basically your mother but older :-) - you have much to offer the world with your enthusiasm and authenticity. Keep going!!! I have annotated books for MANY years and always appreciate my notes later. I’m not really into the tabbing method like you (and many others are), but I do make regular marginalia. I also will dog-ear the lower page corner on pages I want to especially remember. Sometimes MANY pages are dog-eared! Perhaps that is my version of your tab, though it’s not color-coded, obviously. And, I have been making “character maps” as I call them, for several years. It’s always helpful, especially for longer books or books with many characters. You’re a breath of fresh air, and I thank you!
I always use erasable pens and highlighters so that if I annotate and accidentally highlight wrong I can easily fix it. I would recommend pilot frixion clickers as well as the pilot frixion erasable highlighters. I find that these don't bleed through at all or dry out and they aren't that expensive. A bonus is also that the highlighters I use have a pastel colour which I find very cute (:

I think annotation systems like the one Destiny has are so aesthetic and "intellectual." That being said, they always overwhelm me and feel like so much pressure.
Personally I annotate every physical book I own (because I read most of my books digitally, so I figure that if I own it I might as well personalize it lol) but I only pick 2 colors. 1 colour is for quotes or sections of writing I like, and the 2nd color is for scenes I enjoyed or found important. Doing it like this is a lot better for me because I don't have to keep track of a million different colors or "remove" myself from the reading experience to think about what type of quote it was. I don't know, It works for me.
As for writing in my books, i don't do it personally because I'm not a huge fan of my handwriting, but I will either paste my thought on a sticky note (though I wasn't a huge fan of that because it blocked some of the writing underneath) or I will take extensive notes in my Storygraph app and just reread those.
Anyway, I hope that helped anyone who's maybe just getting into annotating and is overwhelmed by some of the more advanced systems found here on CZcams because that's how I felt.

I love annotating ❤ It took me a while to get comfortable marking books but I finally found my own style that feels natural to me. I try not to overthink it and that’s my advice for everyone else. And if anyone is scared to do it, start with some thrifted books you haven’t spent a lot of money on and books that are easily replaced.

For those who want to start annotating, buy a cheap second hand book that’s cheaper and use that. I have two of the same book and i annotated in the second hand one instead bc that way I have my good condition ones lol

I just recently got these new annotating tabs and they are amazing I think the brand is called Kanmido....? I think it’s a Japanese brand. It’s super cute, it comes with a clip that you attach to the book it’s so handy. Plus the tabs aren’t bulky. I highly recommend 😊

I'm curious, maybe I missed it, but do you annotate with the same meanings behind the tabs, or does it change from book to book. Like no matter what book I read, I always like purple for beautiful quotes. Do your meanings and colors change, or do you just match the book but keep the same meanings?

Hello Mel reads I use the post it but when I started I post it pomia my book does the color of the cover a few days ago I started using color coding my system is this pink romantic or tender monmetos The Spicy or Hot Orange Monmetos The Yellow Happy or special monmetos The green favorite phrases to remember and the blue sad moments is my color code I started using in the Book of the Hunger Games but Mockingjay is suffering psychologically and ends up hating Gale
