- Watch these series of clips (from March 2021) with Hank Chisholm, CJF shoeing a general pleasure horse (Annabelle) with severe separation from a previous abscess in July of 2020. Annabelle was shod in July 2020 and received no hoof care until March of 2021.
Regular hoof care for horses, by a qualified farrier is so important. We don't know the circumstances leading up to the original abscess issue, but it was clear over seven months later that no further care had been given. Kudos to to Hank for his ability to deal with neglected, damaged hooves.
Annabelle left the shop in much better shape than she came in and we have plans to get her back in April 2021 for the follow up.
I was a Farrier for 30 years [oh my aching back] shod mostly TN Walker Plantation and Walkers that were trail rode also. I retired 5 years ago just finished up a two day seminar just to see what was new. Believe me things have changed for sure. And I can tell you the Farriers of today properly trained thru a Farrier School know what they are doing. And yes some of the best today are Ladies. They have that magical touch.
Wow, 30 years old man, what a wonderful thing you say to a beginner like me in this field, even in a word

I'm
This guy is so gentle with the animals, it’s like they know he will help them.
I felt the same.
The summer of 1969 I studied the physiology of the horse from the shoulders down under DH Canfield at the University of Tennessee. We made our shoes in the forge. I came home to Louisiana, finished College and went back to the farm and 14 horses to trim and shoe. A lot has changed, but the basics remain the same. Great video. I learn some new tricks. Stay healthy. I'm still on the farm, but the horse's feet are trimmed by a much younger man.
Hey gidday mate i am watching your video for the 10th time and i really do findbit relaxing i love watching you do your work on the horses well son good sir thanks for sharing kind regards Gregory lee from Melbourne Victoria Australia😁🖐

How wonderful it must feel to have four solid feet again. You are a master at your craft.
Clean tissue, you're an artist. Patiently working little by little to get past that bad separation. 👍🏻🇺🇲♥️ Bless you 🙏
I’ve only recently discovered this channel. The thing is I find this whole process not just interesting but relaxing too. Anybody else feel that way?
Yep. It's like that for most of us.
Funny you should mention that. I have no interest in learning how to be a farrier, but I watch these type videos because I too find them very calming, almost like a meditative state.

I love to watch
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
this man is not only excellent in this all procedure,,he gives great advises and I feel like I have learned a new skill ,,,also the animal felt at ease with him..thank you so much, Sir !
I've learned so much watching these guys at work.
I grew up on a big horse and wheat ranch. At one time we had more than 30 horses, so on the days when the vet or the farrier was scheduled, it was a big deal. We had several farriers over the years, but one stands out in my memory, probably because he was the longest-running one. I don’t remember if my parents asked me to do it or if I requested the task, but I used to hold the horses while they were trimmed and shod. It was a lot of work for the farrier. He didn’t use a stand of any kind, but held the horse’s foot between his legs. He had a small forge and anvil. Some of the horses were calm and cooperative, some danced through the entire process despite my efforts to keep them still. Occasionally the farrier, whose name was Mike, would get angry and frustrated enough to hit a horse on the flank who was causing trouble. As a teenage girl, this was offensive to me so I never really warmed to him or spoke to him much. He was diffident and I was shy so that suited us both. I loved watching the process of cleaning, smoothing and leveling the hooves and fitting them with shoes. I would get stressed if I saw that a hoof wasn’t ready for the shoe but Mike was on to fitting it. He always caught the error before he actually fitted the shoe, so eventually I learned to trust him. It was immensely satisfying to end the day with the horses-and one donkey!-trimmed and shod and comfortable. The donkey was trimmed only, no shoes. The image foremost in my mind when I think of these long gone days is the sweat running in little rivulets through Mike’s close-cropped hair and dripping off his nose. He was a very hard worker.
That's a very nice story and I can picture this with such good writing!~ Thank you.
This total process was wonderful for the suffering animal.
Sir, your knowledge and abilities are totally amazing! 👍🏻💕🌻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Great job.
So much skill, experience and expertise involved in this. Love to watch these videos
I am very proud of you 👍👍
That is the worst hoof I have ever seen. That poor horse! 😢 I learn something new every time I watch these videos. I'm so thankful there are people out there with these skills, that can help these animals who can't ask for our help, but, depend on us to look out for them.
Sadly, when I was working as a farrier's mate, I saw horses and donkeys with feet in worse condition than this. And ALWAYS from the same cause; neglect by ignorant and / or uncaring owners!
Good job
Excelente trabajo.
Para los que no entendemos ingles, necesitamos traduccion.
You are an ARTIST
There's ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE for anyone to let they're precious animals THIS BAD......no excuses
For sure there is no excuse, but unfortunately it happens.
Hi
Wasn't there an old saying, no foot no horse? Great technical patch job? Is that the correct term? You are a master at what you do. Keeping the horse in mind first. God Bless for saving another of God's creations.
Mark Licano- I think patch job is a great description.
