BATTLEFIELD 2042: Haven Conquest Strategy & Rao Season 7 Guide (Mechanics and Gameplay)

- Season 7 of Battlefield 2042 (bf2042) has arrived and we've got a new 64 player map 'Haven'. It's a small, compact play areas with highly destructible environments compared to other maps, with each side having only two vehicles -- a Nightbird and a choice of the Main Battle Tank (MBT), Railgun TOR or the RAM. In this video I will focus on showing how Objective C1 is the Kingpin of the entire round, and whoever takes it first typically wins by a large margin. I won't lie, I don't like this new map particularly but it is what it is and let's enjoy it the best we can! Engineers are the absolute rulers of this map, so make sure you've got Crawford, Lis and Boris at the ready.
I also want to encourage as many people as possible to start playing in Rao-led Engineer squads to target aircraft. I'm deeply disappointed that the Wildcats have not been given APS, so the (in my opinion) horrific imbalance between air power and everyone else looks set to continue. Now that Season 7 is out, we're ready to update a little guidance so enjoy. Finally, to help people find friends I'm introducing some friends -- come find us if you want some squad play!

As a Sundance main, I’m still heartbroken over dice taking away a c5 so I suppose I’ll have to fall into the engineer role more as well as Rao. Rao certainly shines when you’re running as a squad and communicating, otherwise berries just have no idea what to do 9 times out of 10 (at least in my experiences)
Haven’t still just… it just doesn’t do it for me. I can appreciate the “close quarters” vibe of the map but I think the perpetual chaos is what throws me off. Too much concentration in what feels like a very small area without much of anything to speak of on the perimeters. I’ve gotten some flak for my negative review of Haven but it’s a hill I’ll die on: This Just Ain’t It

Rao squads are excellent fun - almost as fun as having 4 Lis players together 😅 there’s absolutely no way you can Rao effectively without discord & focused players.
I don’t like Haven I’m just putting a brave face on it. I said in the vid it’s a poor design and you saw my comments elsewhere. But, we all know it so I figured just try and stay somewhat positive.
Yeah the RPG work was fun, I swear I spent most of my time downing those buggers because nobody else was!!

Great work man! I think you are completely correct about C on Haven. Also providing some very valuable advice about targeting buildings which I don't think a lot of people would naturally think of!
Right now, my concern with the map is the difficulty backcapping, which typically leads to games being very onsided. I think they should put some light transport vehicles in to help promote that. Maybe some quad bikes.
Thanks as always! I loathe this map, but enough people have complained so I figured I’d try to tone it done a little (I did have to call it poorly designed though, because it is). In all my matches so far, the round is decided in the first two minutes. Once we’ve taken C1 and a flank Objective, we sit on top of them in front of their spawn objective and just don’t let them out. Anyone who does break through is alone / few in number and get mopped up by the rest. It’s a poor map, shit design and recycled uninspiring visuals. I’ve stopped playing the Haven rotation & gone back to regular BF.
Why the hell is Dice pushing the Nightbird too? Surely they’re aware that it’s hugely divisive & many of us detest it. This map is the worst of everything I know about BF. There, I’ve said it!!
Your discord notifications really got me Good explaination on Haven about the C1 control. It really is crucial to have that flag under control. And just lovely to see you and your squad taking out the helicopters, i love it! Works surprisingly good! I finally learned what causes full HP Helicopters to burst into flames just now. So someone just hacked them. I never knew this. So thanks for that! 👍 Good Video timless!
Yeah the flaming effect is Rao, shame it's all show and no real substance anymore! It's fun taking down helis alone but the full wrath of a Squad is brilliant.

I try to help - I’m still amazed how many clicks vids which actually have nothing to do with what the subject matter is get! Example: “the new map is rubbish, it has XYZ..” whilst the whole time the vid is flying around in a helicopter on a completely different map & has sweet FA to do with what we’re talking about. 15,000 views!!

@timelessgamer4359 this type of content is as rare as Hens teeth. Leutin and Daskro used to do similar vids, showing the map layout and how a team gets the upper hand. It's very informative and tactical, which is far more interesting than showing 80-2 kill streak imo.

AT mines were the best until they got nerfed off the planet in season 7, now C5 is King again. I’ll try to post more regularly, but so close to a Season drop it’s risky to make any meaningful videos. God knows what additional changes are going to sneak out at the last moment!

Thanks for the compliments, I'm really glad people are enjoying the channel -- if you just want to unlock vehicle gear then go into solo for an hour with a strong cup of tea and burn down AIs, you'll unlock the gear super fast. To actually level up in terms of skill / familiarity, get into the 128 rounds and start as many vehicle fights as you can. Also run Engineer so you can get experience on how to take them down. Remember -- front armour is thickest, so where possible don't show your sides to an enemy. At the same time, go for theirs! Other than that it's practice practice practice.@@owengutierrez8689
oh wow i didn't even realize that the AT mines were nerfed, I think I'll still run them on lis since I do like just randomly existing and gettijng a quad kill out of nowhere haha, a 2 second delay isn't a complete killer for me.

I find it insane that most people don't blow up the buildings right away. Since I'm not a tanker I've been running Crawford almost exclusively just to do that because my team isn't doing it.
I’m amazed how many people don’t do it too. Just open up the walls and dig the campers out! Trying to get that message out 🫡

DICE should have added armored transport type instead of tanks in the new map. Both have the capability to destroy the enemy helicopter, and they need at least 3 people to be fully effective.
It would also help hugely with back capping and breaking out of the trap I was outlining / stopping people being caught in it. Honestly I don’t like this map at all. I’ve stopped playing it on rotation & hope to see it as little as possible going forward.
You were right the additional 2 second cool down for flares has done nothing to help the Wildcat. Also, given that it only take (2) C5 to destroy the Wildcat, the reduction in assaults ability to only carry two didn't help either. So basically it got a bump in turret speed but that reduction in 30MM range really hurts, as now you can poor into an attack heli when it comes into range but you can't do enough dmg to destroy it, if its full strength. Thats even with an assistant gunner also using the .50cal.
I couldn’t even feel any change in turret speed - I didn’t play with it for all that long though. On the clip against three Stealth Heli I could just about feel at the end it was going out of range, but I tend to play the Wildcat quite fast & go after land vehicles too. Never been one to fight at much of a range. All that said, the fact it got a range reduction is in of itself a nonsense. It desperately needs APS and to be as menacing as possible. I do hold to my view that air power is deeply imbalanced in this game, nerfing Rao’s hack, dialling down Lissiles, and only token debuffs like an extra 2 seconds or a slower repair time from Engineers are token.
@@timelessgamer_UK I have been doing nothing since the update, then going around on the map, looking for WC drivers and providing support, since they rarely seem to get assistant gunners, usually just a one man show. If they didn't want to add APS but still wanted to do something to buff it, I would make it two man vehicle and give the assistant gunner the .50 cal and a secondary 20MM flak cannon, I think then it would be pretty formidable. Right now, one man on his own, its pretty weak and even two people is still weak if the heli pilots are good, as just one strafing run will erase a WC. Folks out there who think the WC is OP obviously have not spent much time in it. BTW I saw that video the other day with you as the forward gunner in a CAV, lasting an entire match...pretty cool and rare to get such a good driver. I've had it happen a couple times, its fun, I don't even mind riding in the back repairing and shooting sneaky C5 deployers, even though I get sniped a lot....lol.

I play on Xbox (cross play). That coupled with the fact that I am past my prime regarding twitch response makes me a great candidate for supportive gameplay. Luckily that's always been my bag. So, it does the heart good to see content centered around that.
This game is made for coordinated team play. And it seems there is an aweful lot of players who ignore that in favor of having a solo experience. Dare I say, a "CoD mentality". For, me -- that selfish attitude is pervasive and many times ruins the experience.
At any rate, your most important point in this video, for me, is to find friends to squad up with. Because solo queue = sad queue 😂.
I love repairing, healing, setting up spawn beacons, taking out vehicles, and so on. So, if anyone out there is looking for a support player as a teammate, hit me up!
(I also love driving transport vehicles and helicopters)
I’m a squad player too, I’m average at best in a head to head gun fight. However, squad play is what this game thrives on and why I love it so much. Any time you want to team up just shout! The RAM and CAV are absolute forces of nature when fully crewed by a team working together. Thanks for the support & glad you enjoyed it
I'm not as old as that Grandpa Gamer guy who plays BF but I've been playing video games since the beginning of them. In fact I use to shine shoes, or go dumpster diving for aluminum cans to recycle, just to get some money to play the new 'Asteroids' arcade machine that we had at a local bar in our neighborhood, in the early 80's. Unfortunately, I found out when I started playing this game, due to my age, I think my reflexes and hand eye coordination are just a little bit slower then most who play this game. So I get crushed in many gunfights, when playing assault, thus I play more of a support role for vehicles as well. I'm not sure how long it will last, as its quite frustrating but for now I'm trying to get better, or find a niche that I'm not terrible at...lol.
Rao is a good choice, but so is sniping. Engineer tank hunter is also a non-reflex heavy role. If you were active in the arcades in the 1980s we're not that far apart -- TMNT was the best game ever but man it ate Quarters like nothing else...@@Eric-qx1kx
@@timelessgamer_UK When it comes to arcade games I probably spent the most $$$'s on 'Galaga' growing up. Eventually, of course I got the Atari 2600 and that came with one free game called 'Combat' which I played like crazy as cartridges were insanely expensive and we were pretty poor.

Oof. A coordinated Rao/Engineer squad is the bane of my AH existance. Especially when they get good at predicting where I'll dodge for cover and catch me with my flares down. >_

@@timelessgamer_UK Thanks! I think the way you analyze strategy makes loads of sense so your analysis on my own decision making in-game would be helpful. But really, the clips are probably too short to get a good grasp of how I play and are mostly just me bragging about only-in-battlefield moments. 😋 No rush tho.
Isn't the SOFLAM and Hack icons suposed to show up only when you're looking at the vehicle with a compatible weapon?
And I don't think you have to keep looking at the vehicle with the SOFLAM for it to work, after lock is done, you can let go, it'll stay there for some time.
Also, please use Smokes as infantry!! They instantly fix most of the "bad" level design, especially the Smoke Grenade Launcher. Sundance with her Scatter Grenades and Smoke Grenade Launcher is being great in this map.
Another thing that fixes the "bad" level design is Recons spawning people behind enemy lines to alleviate pressure, the map could have some small vehicles to help with that though.
We have a lot of tools but it seems people ignore them all and get stuck playing only one character/class while complaining that they want more class and teamwork based gameplay...
Right so, the Hack - in Season 5 before they nerfed the hell out of Rao, hacking a target on any vehicle EXCEPT the Stealth would put the designator crosshairs on it. We proved it in “The Squad Part I” video, have a look. Now though, it’s completely disappeared even though the vehicle is still lockable.
Once a target has been designated, the designation sticks for about 2 seconds after the lock is broken - long enough to just finish a shot but not so long you can tag and forget. The Hack is much reduced now in terms of what it does (it used to shut down flares!), but it’s the only thing which can catch a Stealth Heli. For all that though and despite Dice’s best efforts to protect pilots, it didn’t stop us doing the business & destroying their air force 😂

Hey - I’m going to speak to that soon. The problem with The Finals is I’m in Asia, and season 1 was absolutely plagued with cheats. I stopped playing until Embark Studios can demonstrate to me that they’ve got cheating under control. My friends also quit for the same reason and it’s not a game you can play effectively on your own. If the climate changes, I’ll play again. Really into Hell Divers 2 at the moment, what about yourself?
@@timelessgamer_UK i love playing the game. thanks for introducing me to it. season 2 added and changed a lot of things i wanted and more so that has been great. i played the game solo since launch and most of the time i can compete pretty well if my teammates know what they are doing. as for cheats. im in europe and i honestly dont see any of that maybe thats just your region or it might be ranked because i dont play ranked but i dont see it. i still hope they fix it for you. lastly i would love to play helldivers 2 but it isn’t available on xbox and i even have a friend that plays it. so that sucks. it would be cool to see videos from you on it. :)
It's coming! I'll try The Finals again, a good friend of mine plays it. Last man standing! Seriously the Hacking is an issue in Asia & being in the 'China Region'. It's so sad but I would say every 2 or 3 games, the hackers appear. Really sad as it's a golden game otherwise but I get precious free time as it is and I've reached the end of my time with a bad taste in my mouth too many times. If I did a RAM vid it would be from that perspective with a split screen of my friend driving. Think that would work?

@@timelessgamer_UK Yes...do it..!! I'm not in the RAM very often but when I am I prefer to man the AA and AT missile seat. Also, an in depth video about the secondary vehicle weapons would be good as well. I know Dan did one but I'd like to get your take as well.
Haven.. if you're on foot.. too many windows.. too many levels... too many angles. My twitch and second-sense reflexes are simply not good enough to sty alive for long on this map. Something I enjoyed on Redacted was the reduced angles and camping options which felt like a cleaner playing experience.
I don’t like Haven either, I’m trying to stay positive and make what I can of it, but I won’t be making any further content on it. I’ve said all I’ve got to say, it’s a confusing map for the reasons you say. There’s just too many angles to get hit from, so it’s impossible to make a reasonable plan unless you’re in a vehicle. I don’t like it (as I say just trying to be positive & keeping my negative thoughts out the video proper).

Another great vid as always :). Have wanted to squad up with Rao/soflam/engineers for ages. Not many people want to do it unfortunately. Not enough XP in it for the super sweats. Lol. I love playing Rao with soflam...doesn't net many points but it can be satisfying. I'll have to join you at some stage and have a bit of a fun.
It would be great to team up - XP past a point in this game doesn’t really mean anything anyway, it’s all about gameplay. I’ll happily go Rao any time provided someone is going to take advantage. Whilst in my opinion the changes in season 6 to Rao were a little too far (such as no longer shutting off weapons or cooldowns), he’s still great. It’s a good answer to a team dominating the skies. Even better of you can have 2 Raos with their engineers covering both sides of the map. Literally nothing any pilot can do if 4 people work together like that.
SOFLAM guys are the unsung hero's of BF2042, especially since I mostly play Crawford. I see someone marking aircraft, I drop everything, or hop out of vehicles to take advantage, as I always carry the M5. I'm sure it stinks for those guys going out of their way to SOFLAM, only to have a team of rambo Mackays and Caspers that can't do anything about it.

@@Eric-qx1kx I love using the soflam...but as you say if there's no one to take the opportunities when vehicles/aircraft are marked, he's just wasted. So many matches I've played Rao with soflam and end up at the bottom of the board coz no one's shooting down my marks. Not much incentive to play him in the end.
@@2Can-Dan I didn't nothing but use the SOFLAM yesterday for the first time, it was more fun then I expected...! There is not the glory of taking down a heli with an RPG but was still kind of satisfying in a way. I didn't use Rao though, I used Blasco to give myself a little more concealment with her infiltration device. The SOFLAM does give off a red scope glint but no one seemed to pay much attention to it.
Hacking enemy players is good to use as it shows up enemy within 10M

For Rao the change is actually increasing how long it takes to initiate a new hack after you do it once.

TG do you happen to know what the effective range of the .50 cal coaxial machine gun in the Wildcat is..?? Or for that matter, is there a list of the effective ranges of all the vehicles weapons anywhere to be found...??
All I know is the following: the AA flak cannon on the CAV and LATV has a range of 220m max. Don’t shoot before then or you’ll give yourself away, ideally let it come in to 150m so you can catch it out. As to the rest afraid I don’t know! I would guesstimate you’re not going to get much beyond 400m
@@timelessgamer_UK Thanks, not much info out there on the secondary vehicle weapons. The 20MM flak cannon will shred close in heli's but is the weakest weapon in the game against infantry, in fact I'm not sure it does any damage to them at all. Personally I don't even equip this in the CAV, bc you have to take it in lieu of the incendiary grenade launcher, which is one of my fav weapons to use, nothing like melting people with that thing....lol.
I would seriously urge you to reconsider that on Conquest!! Check my CAV vid!
Right now I'm just upset my game keeps crashing saying my gpu isn't up to date. I guess high end gpus crash the game.

@@timelessgamer_UK a 4070 ti super but I was watching this video where this guy was saying that there's a bug where it crashes if you run a high end gpu. Fortunately I have an Xbox but going from my pc to the Xbox just hurts lol
@@asamataua I understand entirely -- I think I get it now. There was an issue where the latest NVIDIA Drivers were screwing up BF, and people had to roll back to the previous version. I think that's been resolved now?
Hacking the helis allows the M5 to lock on. I thought they changed that an it only puts it in damage state. All the gameplay you designated
The Hack lock still worked at the time I made this video. What was strange between then and now is the reticule telling people they can lock has disappeared. However if your friend is ready and anticipating it, they can still lock even though they “see” nothing. If you watch how fast Doom got that stealth heli or I got the jet - we locked well before the 2 +2 needed to designate then lock. It still works!

why is everyone using MPAT on tank? It is underpowered unless there are 4 tanks in a match instead of 2
My logic - you never know when 1% more damage will tip the fight against another vehicle in your favour. Might be dumb, but that’s my reason!
Is it just me, or are Rao hacks not designating for me or my squadmates? is this a bug? we're primarily trying to shut down enemy nightbird exploitation
No it’s not just you - I covered it in the vid. There’s a problem since Season 6 when Dice changed Rao’s hack to stop it shutting down weapons / disabling cooldowns. The lock on reticule no longer appears BUT it is there!! We proved it in The Squad Part 1 and again in this video. If the vehicle is hacked, it can be targetted even if you don’t see anything. It’s a really annoying bug that seems to have got worse.

I hack the vehicles now just to be annoying but the changes to infantry with 3d spotting everyone in 10m and through smoke is great. And disabling the stupid Boris turrets and rangers

where does the helicopter spawn? I can’t seem to find it and it won’t show up on the menu
Everything is found as normal, but it might be you haven’t noticed the new vehicle select button sequence in season 7? On PC you cannot just click on the cog / gear icon, you now need to right click it. Other than that nothing has changed - let me know.
