- Part one in a series documenting the transformation of an existing storage space into an apartment for my daughter. In this video I clear out the space, frame walls, and punch a doorway hole in the brick wall.
What an awesome dad, your daughter is very fortunate to have such a loving, caring father.
You are so kind, thank you 🙏
You are a good Dad❤
Thanks, she’s had me wrapped around her finger since the day she was born❤️
My father told me before I entered a local college that he was providing me with room and board. Mind you, you would think he would be proud as I was the first in the family to attend college. I was an 18 year old female, and young for my age, not like kids nowadays. He never helped with the application forms (I asked), and I was only able to pay for 2 applications ($25 each). I got into both colleges. He paid for the first semester, complained, complained, so I took over my own tuition thereafter. I never felt loved. It still hurts to this day. I am telling the world what not to do with your kids.
YOU ARE A WONDERFUL FATHER!
Can you just imagine if every child had a Father like this?
Thank you so much!
@@Madebymick Well deserved. ♥️
Or any kind of father.
I surely hope your daughter appreciates your generosity and hard work. A father's love is a treasure.
She definitely does, and you’re 100% right 👍
You have my attention, and now I'm a subscriber and looking to follow along to watch the progress.
Welcome, and I hope you enjoy 👋
You are all kids dream dad. I hope she knows just how lucky she is!
Thank you so much, and she’s very grateful!
Thank you for clearly labelling your episodes, which makes it so easy to follow along
Exciting video....looking forward to the continuation! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
The first lesson I practiced a LOT was a broom, wisk broom, dust pan and garbage can are real important if you are doing a remodel project. Glad you left it in the video.
I’ve actually done better with the clean up since I’ve been making the videos. Thanks for watching and commenting! 👍
Amazing! Love this whole idea and having the kids close by.
Thanks 🙏 I used to think that when my kids grew up they should move away, and make a life for themselves somewhere else. Now they’re there I really enjoy being close to them, I guess I’m realizing how short life is.
Dad is awesome
Thank you 🙏
You make building look easy and I know it's anything but easy. Looks great.
Thank you 🙏
That's a LOT OF LOVE !!! ❤ ❤ ❤ AWESOME DAD!
Thank you 🙏 ❤️
Another great project, everything always looks fantastic when you get done. Excited to see it finished.
Thanks Sis❤️
You're amazing man an amazing Dad I'm loving this ❤❤❤❤
Very Nice! I just watched all of your videos. You are a very good narrator!
Thanks for watching, and I’m glad you liked the narration, it’s really been a learning process making videos.
Shows how much you love your babygirl. Great job
So much, thanks!
Great father❤😊Your work is beautiful🎉
Thank you very much!
That is looking promising. It's great that you have the space, skills and can call on help to create a little piece of independence for your daughter. I'll be tuning in for updates.
It’s been a fun project, and I’m great full to have learned the skills to be able to help. Thanks for tuning in!
Great video and subscrib3d. Of all things to notice but I like how you keep a clean work area. I try to do the same and clean up as I go.
Thanks! It definitely helps to clean up as you go, I think I’ve done a better job of it since I’ve been filming and making videos.
I was really hoping you'd frame up pocket doors for the laundry room and the interior door, considering the limited space....seems like a perfect setting for them. Additionally your door to your shed could've been a 42 inch wide door for moving larger things in and out easily.
Hi, and thanks for the comment👋. I’m actually planning on leaving the interior doorway, and the laundry room door open because I want the mini split heating and cooling system to flow into all areas, and the shed I closed in, I’m planning on installing a garage door on the end later on to turn it into a small garage.
@@Madebymick How hard was it to get approval, permits in your area? Building codes can suck the life out of many dreams
What a great dad!
Thank you 🙏
You sure are a awesome builder ❤
Thank you 😁
Great job!
Thanks!
Can't wait to see next video..! 👌🌹
Glad you liked it! It’s turning out nice, I pretty excited to share. 👍
Another good video. That opening through the brick wall looked easier on Timelapse than it probably was. I thought you would have to use a demo saw, but I was wrong.
Thanks, and it actually went pretty smooth once I got a few bricks out.
Another great video, and I like your videos - the only thing I don't like about them? They're too short! 😅
On a serious note; Yes it's crazy how much the property prices has gone up, even here in "commie" Denmark! 😁 Here in our socialist "paradise" the young ones can't start on the property ladder if they don't have parents with [very] deep pockets that can help them, otherwise forget it!
Even in the more rural areas the prices has gone up, because ppl has to move further and further out from the big cities, so that puts a pressure on the market even out there too.
I must admit, I fully understand when some youngsters say: "Why even bother?! No matter what we do, we'll never be able to buy not even a small apartment, so why take an education? Why study for +7 years to get an university degree, and then be left back with a student debt I will struggle with for the rest of my life, and I STILL can't afford to buy a property, so as said, why even bother?!" 🥺
Thanks, and I agree that the videos could be a bit longer, I appreciate the feedback. 👍
It’s interesting to hear about other parts of the world experiencing the same crazy inflation that we’re experiencing here in the states. I bought a lot and built my first house 30 years ago for $80,000.00 all in, that house would cost $450,000.00+ now! How does a young person/couple afford to get into a home? You make a good point, I understand why some youngsters feel like there’s no hope, their goals and dreams have been crushed!
By the way, the area where I live here in central Utah was settled by Scandinavian immigrants in the mid to late 1800s. My great grandfather came over from Denmark in 1877 at the age of six. It’s on my bucket list to visit that part of the world someday.
Did you say “shiz shifting?” Great phrase
Yeah, it one of my favorites 😁
This is so amazing gift 🎁
I’m so happy, that I’m able to do it. You’re so kind, thank you 🙏
clearly you have a can do attitude, and I like it.
I definitely do, thank you 🙏
You make it look so easy. My brain doesn’t work like that!
Thanks! I’ve been doing it for a long while.
You're the fasted hacker in the west!
🤠👍
I think I would have removed the new closet and reworked that area that was already busted thru Rather than adding another door
Great going. Where I live, you would likely need a "building permit" from the local council costing about $20,000 , for that renovation. Why didn't you get your daughter to help , as it would help to have a psychological sort of "buy in" to this renovated space ? Is she going to help in some later stages, painting and wallpapering perhaps ?
Thanks, and yes there’s different regulations, permits, and fees in different areas. I agree on her helping me for the “buy in”. I’m starting to paint now, and she’s helping me more with the finishing. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I live in CA, my kids are never moving out.. 😢
I think it’s our new reality, with prices and inflation going through the roof.
Kudos to your building skills. FYI, inflation is a global phenomenon brought on by that pesky little incident called the pandemic. And there aren't that many 20 year-olds buying houses unless their last name is Hilton.
Very nice considering that in today’s economy it’s harder for kids to move out & make it on their own without working 3 jobs.
Yeah, everything is so expensive! I hope this is a good solution, and will provide her a stepping stone.
My favorite part is watching you break through the drywall for the door like a baby chick breaking out or the eggshell.
I never thought of it that way, that’s funny 😆
How old is the house?
It’s was originally a basement house that was built in the late 1940s, the main floor was built in the 1960s.
We can’t even buy an apartment for 65k double that and you may get lucky here in augsburg Germany
That’s the way it is here now also. It’s probably tripled or quadrupled since I bought the house.
Cost of everything has gone up. It’s Biden Economics, (you got money) his quote. St.Paul.Minnesota.
I hear ya!
Would have been more practical to remove the closet and use the closet door to enter the new area. Or just walk through the closet if you don’t want to remove it
I did consider that, but it would have destroyed the closet either way, and I wasn’t sure of where to relocate it. I feel like it lays out better with the kitchenette on the end also. Thanks for the feedback👍
Great idea until you find her a good project to buy
That's the plan! Thanks!
Turned the music down. Not necessarily for it to be so loud. Your speaking is what we need to hear
Thanks for the feedback 😬
And one day, when your daughter has saved enough for a down payment on her own place and has moved out, you will have an apartment that can bring in a rental income during your retirement.
Exactly 👍
Or for elderly parents.
