This was out and out wrong and you have people cheering him on as if we arent having a national conversation about police brutality, gun violence, and domestic violence. Its completely hypocritical and honestly a sign of the adherence to the state sponsored violence thats carried out on black and poor people in this country. Also it speaks to me about how far people will go to protect celebs and rich people, this was an ass hat move and im grateful for this guys take on it

Its annoying me how everyone keeps saying it was a joke making fun of alopecia. The joke had nothing to do with that. It's about her and GI Jane both having a shaved head. The reasons behind her shaved head are not part of the structure of the joke whatsoever and therefore irrelevant. Rock himself has even said that he didn't know she has alopecia and chances are, if he had known that, he probably wouldn't have made the joke. The constant narrative of it being a jibe at a health condition is just lazy journalism, pure and simple.

    • @cindye5285
      @cindye5285 Před 2 lety +1

And to further that, I never seen anyone hit any comedian for making jokes about celebrity eating disorders, alcoholism, drug addiction or mental health issues. Comedians make celebrity jokes about those medical health conditions ALL the time and nobody ever said it was justified to assault someone over.
His response was about their marriage issues. Plain and simple.

@@cindye5285 I completely agree with you on both points. This was a rash act by a man in a toxic isolated relationship. And re: comedians roasting celebs- Can you imagine the stick Jada and Will would have received if Gervais had been the host??! He would have probably made jokes directly about her alopecia and made sure everyone knew it. Whether it is bad taste or not or whether there needs to be some sort of reform into the code of conduct for award show hosts is another discussion, but ultimately there is no justification for assaulting someone regardless of what they said.

Will Smith represents Will Smith, not the African American race itself. What he did will hurt HIS career and not the careers of other African Americans.
We have to give white people a little more respect to know the difference of separating an individuals actions away from his race or ethnicity. It is extremely unfair to place that burden on every single black person that "makes it" in the world.

I like this man. Such a sensible measured approach to the situation.
I’ve seen too many comments that are basically boil down to “I like Will Smith, so I think we should let him off”.
Will Smith might be a good person that made a mistake, but I don’t think it should be ignored just because he’s rich and famous.
I don’t think we should go the other extreme either and completely destroy the man’s career. Although he’s probably is rich enough to not need to work another day in his life.
Although I don’t think that much to Chris Rock, he’s never been my type of humour. But how professional he stayed throughout that whole thing and recovered and carried on presenting was unbelievable. He handled the situation so well even if he did make a joke in bad taste. Having said that, Ricky Gervais has made far more insulting jokes when he’s done the Golden Globes

I agree with these observations. After reflection also thinking: if Jada is progressive, polyamorous, successful, modern, and independent, why didn’t she just stare down Chris Rock and educate him later about alopecia. Will, married to said advanced woman, could have reached over, held her hand in solidarity, STOPPED LAUGHING, and joined her later in the education piece. Also, given that Will was allegedly protecting his wife in an old school fashion-and I’ve seen quite a few old school people applauding his action-I doubt he is okay with the polyamory. Trying to imagine Denzel or Steve Harvey or another black Christian man over 50 agreeing to polyamory. I don’t think so. What does he do when a man makes a pass at his wife? Wouldn’t that be something disrespectful to defend with physical action as well? Chris Rock took the brunt of Will’s internal conflict.

I'm with you too. Will Smith made a huge mistake hitting Chris Rock. The joke was not that out of place or disrepectful, there are many women that suffer alopecia and carry it naturally and with pride. If she is so self conscious, then put a wig on and nobody will notice. Will Smith got carried away because his wife disliked being the target of the joke and he had to please her and did the wrong thing. Anyway, it seems that there is more deeper issues going on in Will Smith's family life, then what we see with the naked eye.

People were never discriminate you in Hollywood, they were discriminate the way you behave, especially on the live TV board cast, with your F bomb
you also set a perfect example, never make jokes on a person who build their career by starting as a comedian,,,,laugh is no good, but violence can take care the problem that you have at the very moment - what a text book example
If Will can slap anyone publicly because of someone making fun of his wife, so where is all the mama jokes or daddy jokes? I think you need to bring a gun with you man
    Take his Oscar away,
I was looking forward to watch King Richard, it's about family protection by doing so,,,,,no, the real you say, slapping people is OK, and best to do it on live television to show the world how Will Smith did it and foul language to add the extra flavor
Never seeing Will Smith again,,,such a good actor with many talent, but he decide to tell the world, "Action in public is OK, because I am the winner for the night". I can bitch slap anyone I wanted in public
