There are very few people in this world that I can trust to do Layne Justice. The first time I heard this I was extremely leery. I knew I liked Upchurch. And I knew he was talented. But I didn't think anyone else could give it the justice that it deserved. I am so glad that he not only put my fears to rest. But exceeded my expectations on every level
Ironically enough this was one of the first songs by Upchurch. Little did I know truly how talented he was. RIP Layne

It has no resolve, but it does. I afore this song and NOBODY has covered Layne this well and in this way. Amazing! TY for watching this.
Church does a great version of this. Somebody who might surprse you by how much he was able to sound like Layne is Maynard James Keenan. He did Them Bones and Man in the Box with Jerry and the boys at a benefit concert in Seattle. They had some other guest singers do some other songs, but Maynard surprisngly was able to sound pretty similar to Layne. The quality of the recordings you'll find aren't the greatest but are worth a listen. A search will also turn upvideos of Layne going up to sing a couple verses of Opiate on stage with Maynard and Tool from way back in the day too.
Upchurch can do it all. But I agree. You should check out anything on creeker albums

I was in Seattle when Alice in chains were playing live, they are an amazing band. Blew everyone else into the weeds. You need to listen to them. This guy did a good cover of this Mellow AIC song. Listen to some Live at the Moore Theatre videos. Love Hate Love Live is amazing.

You should definitely listen to his cover for rooster by AIC as well. It was written about his dad and his nickname in Vietnam was rooster which was common for the machine gunners in that era. It's killer.

No denying Upchurch has got some serious talent. Personally, I wish he'd done something to make this cover his own, because quite honestly, his vibrato, his tonal quality, and crescendo/decrescendo, i.e. volume control, aren't quite spot on enough to do justice to a mirror image copy of this iconic Alice in Chains/Layne Staley masterpiece. Just my opinion of course.
