    I tried so many of the in the shoe braces. Some give great lift but my problems want getting my toes all the way in my shoe without my toes folding under. I can’t feel my toes so that’s a big problem.

    Thank you so much for this video. My neuro recently suggested I look into getting a brace. My question to you: in your opinion is this brace best with a lace up shoe? Could it work in a lace up boot?

    • @theneurostudio_
      @theneurostudio_  Před 6 měsíci +2

      Hi! It would really depend on the shoe. I know it isn't ideal but I would try it on with all your shoes to find the best fit because as we all know finding that "perfect" fit is tough. I wear the AFO I am speaking about only with my sneakers, but I do love an ankle boot with a small heel as it helps me clear my foot.

    Wearing a brace gives me a false sense of security. When I take the brace off I frequently snag my toe(s) and fall. I would rather not wear it, and have my brain learn my new foot position.

    • @theneurostudio_
      @theneurostudio_  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Sam - this video is just helping people find one that works for them as many are not able to walk without the increases sensory input the AFO offers. But as we describe in the video they often inhibit other movements which is why they should be worn in conjunction with a good movement practice.

      When I don't have shoes on, I do what I call the model high step. I pick my foot up with every step. It is automatic since I've done it for so long.

    • @theneurostudio_
      @theneurostudio_  Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@mareellen63 that is very common as the brain will pick an alternative strategy to help you move forward. You can also try sensory socks, like the Naboso brand proprioceptive socks or insoles to give your feet feedback without wearing a shoe in addition to a good exercise program.

    • @mareellen63
      @mareellen63 Před 6 měsíci

      The Naboso socks are too expensive. I've been taking Nervive for at least a year. I can feel my feet again.

    • @steveballzack1409
      @steveballzack1409 Před 6 dny

      You can't learn to not drag your foot if you don't have the ability to lift your foot. Your brain learning your new foot position isn't going to help you not to snag your toes, that's going to happen anyway I can guarantee that. Wearing a brace doesn't give a false sense of security, it gives you actual security when wearing the brace. Of course when you take it off you're not going to have that security anymore.

    Nope it doesn't work that way, people with footdrop can't just step into a shoe are toes curl

    • @theneurostudio_
      @theneurostudio_  Před 15 hodinami

      Actually everybody with footdrop is different and it sounds like you are basing your comment off your unique experience. You are correct that a lot of people with foot drop also have excessive toe flexion (when the toes curl). The good news is there are things you can do to improve that and we offer a lot of different workouts to help.
      I personally have MS and have foot drop since 2002 and some days are better than others. I am simply sharing an AFO that really works for me and allows me to walk further distances as I am determined to not let my foot drop get worse.
      Have a great day!
