    Thanks to Pete Larson of the Just A Few Acres Farm channel for giving credit to this video. Please watch carefully where I connect the baling twine vs where he connects it . . . I think my location makes it easier. You do not need to cut the twine until the chains are connected - this makes it so you do not have to lift the lower chains when you are about to connect them to the upper. Thanks for watching . . . also, no ads on this "for fun only" channel:-)

    I don’t own a tractor. I don’t live anywhere near a farm. But Pete recommended your channel so I’m here avoiding the dumpster fire of current events that’s on the news. By the way, dad jokes are encouraged.

      When I first got the tractor, putting on the chains was a major struggle and took tons of time. After refining my technique year after year (mainly to make it easier as I got older) I realized that that the technique worked pretty well and took only minimal effort. Let the tractor do the work!
      I hope it works as well for you.

    Thanks so much for this great tip. Worked perfectly on my Farmall H. I'm 65 and those chains just get heavier every year. This was so much easier than driving on and lifting up like I had been doing for the last 30 plus years. You have saved my back.

    I guess I cheat a little on this...I put the tire chains on the back of my Kubota L2501 BEFORE I take the backhoe off for winter makes it a lot easier to get everything tight with the wheels an inch and a half or so off the ground! Same with the front wheels use the FEL to lift the tires up off the ground. Makes getting around on that ice and packed snow much better and safer.....no sliding!

    • @Baxsie
      @Baxsie  Před 4 lety +4

      Using this technique, there is no need to lift the tire at all. The weight of the chain pulls it up and around, putting the correct tension on it all the way around. Plus, you only have to lift one end of the chain, you do not have to hurk the whole chain up over the top of the tire.
      Unlike a car or truck, I do not think tractor chains need to be tight. They should be on there without excess slop, but there is no reason to mess with bungees or springs or wires. They do their job perfectly well without all added work that and I think it helps even out any wear on the tire. If the chain is so tight that it cannot move around then it has no choice but to wear the exact same spot on the tire continuously.

    Typically waiting for the sub zero weather, 6” of snow & wife stuck in the ditch at the bottom of the driveway. 😂 LMAO. Well, I guess 2 outta 3 ain’t bad. Got snow, got cold but there’s no way in hell I’ll be waiting for somebody to get stuck in the ditch at the bottom end of the driveway AGAIN !!!!
    Thank you Brotherman.

    • @privateer177666
      @privateer177666 Před 4 lety +1

      Baxsie. I’d split the tractor this summer to put in a clutch, pressure plate, throw-out bearing & tranny oil seal in so it wouldn’t crap the bed like it did last winter w/ 8” of snow, 20 below zero and at the bottom of the driveway just before the ditch..... Happy Holidays Brotherman.

    You should not have tied the center chains UP. They are supposed to bridge the gap of the side chain connections. That center chain 'tail' should drop from gravity and be shackled to the cross chains below

    Driving with chain over chain is a bad idea-

    • @Baxsie
      @Baxsie  Před 3 lety

      I agree. Those chains are just too big for these tires. Since this video was created, I used some quick links to take some slack out between each set of the diamonds. So the diamonds are a little closer together, and now the chains fit perfectly with no overlap. Also, since there is no overlap, it rides smoother.
