tesalewis27 Hawaiian isn't a race it's a Ethnicity that's mixed up of Indigenous black Hawaiians, Japanese and white Spanish settlers. It's hard to tell what racial background they all have just like the Dominican Republic but what all these counties had in common is they all started off as Black Indigenous people, that's why it's so hard to find any traces of Native American DNA in African Americans and Latinos when they know for shore that they have Native American heritage because the original Black Native Americans where mixed out of existence to the point where most of the tribes look more white with very few so called African DNA. When Christopher Columbus first came to the Ameris... he was shocked to find black people already here. Not all black people come from Africa or are African, we where everywhere on the planet, We are the original people in all the lands. The idea that white people are so pure and perfect that a person 75% white is still a light black person, because they aren't pure enough to claim is a huge insult to black people.
I am mixed. Some people think I'm white, some black, some other things. Most want me to pick a side. I won't. I truly resent being called a "light skinned black woman passing as white". I have bright yellow beige skin like a Japanese girl. Sue me.

I think the "one drop" rule, which says that if you have any African ancestry then you are racially black, is a racist social construct. For example, if a person is 75% white by blood (One fully white parent, and one half-white/half-black parent), then that person has historically been considered black. It is almost as if the dominant society is saying that it is a privilege to be white, while anyone with any black heritage can identify as black. Let's take Barack Obama for example. He is half-white. If he was not a famous man he could easily identify as simply black without ever being questioned. Although Obama is just as white as he is black, if Obama tried to simply identify as white, and nothing else, our society would not allow it. The lowly blacks will must accept anyone, but one has to be pure to qualify as white. Societal racism.

Most white people in the USA are mixed, and most black people in the USA are mixed. But we make racist assumptions ab each other, based on outward appearances all the time. We do not consider the fact that Americans have been mixing for hundreds of years, even when it was illegal. If you look at our DNA, American white folks have between 13-30 percent Sub Saharan African DNA and black folks in the USA have approx 13-30 percent European DNA, sometimes they have even as much as 50 percent European DNA. Stop judging ppl based on surface appearances. We all have the same DNA; just in different quantities. We are all related.

Wikipedia does a great job at explaining this:
“In the 1980s, the term African American was advanced on the model of, for example, German-American or Irish-American to give descendants of American slaves and other American blacks who lived through the slavery era a heritage and a cultural base.[240] The term was popularized in black communities around the country via word of mouth and ultimately received mainstream use after Jesse Jackson publicly used the term in front of a national audience in 1988. Subsequently, major media outlets adopted its use.[240]
Surveys show that the majority of Black Americans have no preference for African American versus Black American,[241] although they have a slight preference for Black American in personal settings and African American in more formal settings.[242]
Many African Americans have expressed a preference for the term African American because it was formed in the same way as the terms for the many other ethnic groups currently living in the nation. Some argued further that, because of the historical circumstances surrounding the capture, enslavement and systematic attempts to de-Africanize blacks in the United States under chattel slavery, most African Americans are unable to trace their ancestry to a specific African nation; hence, the entire continent serves as a geographic marker.”
      Who are African-Americans?
“African Americans (also referred to as Black Americans or Afro-Americans[3]) are an ethnic group of Americans with total or partial ancestry from any of the black racial groups of Africa.[4][5] This term may also be used to include only those individuals who are descended from enslaved Africans.[6][7] As a compound adjective, the term is usually hyphenated as African-American.[8][9]”

Except African American is not the same as Italian American or German American because Africa is a continent and Germany and Italy are countries. There are many different ethnicities in Africa as there are in Europe. The only expression that would be comparable is "European -American".

I agree with you. Africa is a very diverse and varied continent consisting of many ethnicities. I’m totally aware of that. In the case of African Americans, however, we don’t have the luxury of knowing our true roots or where we came from. All of that was stripped from us the moment we stepped foot on American soil. I’m sure you’re very much aware of how we were prohibited from practicing our “African” ( I’m using this in very broad sense) language, religion, etc... We were pretty much left a shell of a former selves. Yes, I get that the term “African American” is a bit of a misnomer but it was used as a means for us to reclaim some sort of identity; to basically show that we do have a history beyond our troubled past within America.

By the individual country within the continent. Like Ethiopian, Congolese, Nigerian and Ghanaian etc.. Africa wasn't called that in ancient times anyway. Look at the history. Do the research.

Only here in North America i was told to label mix people as black. I asked why. Then my teacher told about the one drop rule. So basically the rule was created by a white man or men whom didn't want to claim their offspring as their own. If am correct. If not, please do correct me. Cause back home we label biracial people as Métice meaning mix. Not black, not white. But Métice. It's not an insult. It's the truth. It's their color.😊

No race is 100% what they are. There is mixture in all races. Society judges us by the color of our skin. God judges all of us as believers or non-believers of his only begotten son, Jesus Christ, our Lord and savior, who died for all our sins. Not for the color of our skin. So it makes no difference what nationality or skin color we are, God judges us according to His will through scripture.
    Hebrews 13:20-21...
Now may God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing His will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to Him through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Black people have never had an issue with race. Just cause we talk about it doesn't mean we have a problem. It means there *is* a problem. If you want this race stuff to stop you might want to talk to white people about it a little more.
