Sometimes when you stare and focus on a specific thing for too long, you'll miss what's happening all around you.

I lost all my admiration of these people after the pandemic. Geniuses are people who had the presence of mind to study math as a toddler, they aren't smarter they're just more trained. Not all of us get that much attention in our upbringing.

Being smart isnt the same as being all knowing, just like being dumb isnt the same as being uninformed.
Being smart is about your thought process of pushing beyond the knowledge u have, being dumb is acting against the knowledge you have allready established
@@haalandfilms1695 I often heard people say there is a difference between being smart and being intelligent. The distinction they make is that smart people know a lot and intelligence means a lot more. I was never really completely with that because if you know a lot there are certainly neural differences in your brain, but do you deserve that pride when people call you smart for that reason? And if you know a lot of misinformation, are you smart? Because there are still the same differences in your brain, but you are certainly not seen as smart if you know a lot of misinformation. Then I came to the conclusion that only one thing can exist, intelligence, as an evolutionary mechanism. And IQ scores are very black and white because they treat intelligence as something fixed, not something that exists on the principle of relationship.

This is the first time someone actually explained the difference between chemistry and physics in a way that I could understand and he used one of the most complicated theories to do so. That's a true genius.

He did all that while on plague lockdown, makes me feel stupid that I didn't even do anything during this lockdown remotely close to achieve even 1/100th what he has achieved.

Ah yes, Newton, the man who got so bored sitting in his house avoiding disease that he invented a new form of math. Really makes you think what we've been doing with our lives for the past 2 years.
The last two years, I've spent my time being average. Newton was so absurdly above average intelligence that it's a waste time to compare ourselves to him

@@phyacinths Let's be honest, calculus is one of those things they insist on teaching in school even when you're practically guaranteed not to use it. No wonder people dislike it.
@@petsan97 you may not use it but economists, mathematicians, and many more use it. In high school, there is no way to known if it will be useful to the student or not. So you are taught just in case. It's important. There is something you learnt in high school which is useful to you but not to a physicist.
It seems we've been wasting our lives since nobody invented a new form of math in the past 2 years.
I started watching this guy's shows and videos when I was 11.
I'm 24 now, I start my PhD in Astrophysics in 2 months.
He was definitely a formative figure in my life.

This guy got me to realize that physics is more than just electricity and movement and that it’s quite literally life. I didn’t know how deep physics went until now.

Physics is the study of matter and energy. That literally encompasses everything, which is why it is the most fundamental science. If you're interested in why something happens, there's an area of physics that explains it.

How beautifully he answered every question with so simple explanation that even the toughest Physics concept seemed so obvious and logical, I wish i had a physics teacher like him...
His typed out responses look so professional and stern, but him speaking out loud is so much more friendly. Shows that you really can’t tell what someone is thinking over the internet.
Tone is what's needed on his writing. That's why personal face to face communication is so beautiful.

How come the speed of light is universally consistent, but time does not? Time is a dimension, the fourth dimension specifically, but light is not.

He isn't discounting us the audience, but actually the opposite: Kaku believes that the answer to the universe (or atleast unification of Big and Small) can be thought up or discovered by just about anyone. Out of the millions of views this video had, one of us could bring us one step closer to unlocking the secrets of Physics... And of course, he adds a bit of jest in there to make it more endearing and memorable. What an amazing guy.
I am still blown away by the fact that 'time' slows down. It's tough for me to wrap my head around this. Regardless, it's a really cool fact. How on earth did Einatein figure that out over a hundred years ago?!

Well, like Dr. Kaku said, Einstein constructed a theory about the mechanics of bodies moving at a certain velocity. Just assuming 2 fundamental facts (Einstein proposed them) you can do calculations to find how time behaves between different perspectives (what we call reference frames). And dilation happens not only to time but to objects, just think about it: everytime you move on a car everything around the car is compressed in that direction (clearly at low speeds that's imperceptible).
Read about the Lorentz transformation. Mathematically, that’s how Einstein did it. If the speed of light is constant for all observers, then time and distance must be variable. Distances literally shrink and time literally ticks slower the faster you move as to not break this fundamental speed of light barrier. The answer is the Lorentz transformation.

Let's take a moment that Michio here is sharing knowledge that took centuries to obtain, and we can learn it all in a few moments. His way of explaining very complex, and deep scientific theory are par to none. And he's very encouraging to others to seek the knowledge for yourselves, and perhaps for you, yes you, to contribute to humanities quest of the knowledge of true reality.
If he was my teacher in highschool, Physics would have been enjoyable rather than boring.

My high school physics teacher was basically a hype man for science and had interesting ways of explaining things. Unfortunately, none of my college professors were like that at all and I ended up changing majors,

In college however, my teacher was so boring and had such an insipid way of teaching that I didn't just do bad, I outright failed! Had to take the course again.

I really liked how he explained string theory. It’s such a complicated and confusing subject, and he explained the basics really well. I always got the idea that the particles were strings, but I didn’t understand how you manipulated them to make different subatomic particles.
He is an amazing teacher, just astonished at his ability to explain everything in a simple and understandable way!

I just cant get my head around about how insanely lucky we are to have such amazing people talking to us through the internet. I know this video is a bit older so who cares but that was a thought that constantly went through my head while watching this
same thought i just had. i couldn't imagine how people were holding up prior to the existence of internet. everybody had to go to school to learn these kind of stuff... but for us it's like, just a click away
Ikr!!! Back then people had to probably go to universities to learn. But now with just one click we can listen to theoretical physicist answering some questions and talks to a camera as if he's talking to us
We've invented such amazing things, but you've got to recognize the internet has a special place. It's the ultimate game changer. We invented writing, and it was a game changer, but still 5000 years later the worldwide literacy rate was still lower than 10%. Then we invented the internet, and within 30 years 70% of the world's population is online.
I remember trying to read his book about string theory when I was a teenager. Totally baffled me. 15 years on and I get the man himself explaining it in way that I can understand!

That is what we research scholars are taught to do. It's the most difficult thing for us to do. Explain your research in plain language so that even a layman can understand what you are doing

Besides his other smarts that is a genius talent of his. My bane back in the ancient past were teachers who were either naturals in their subject and had understood their subject without too much trouble or forgot how they had slashed through the subject jungle when they were starting out. Mathematics, I'm looking at you. 🤨They couldn't understand how I didn't get it.

All these people make science and physicist easy to understand, even know its a very complicated to wrap you head around.
"There's no such thing as dumb question" i hope a lot of people, especially teachers, understand this.
Fun fact: The cape question is an issue of the medium: comic books. It's hard to show motion with a static medium. If Superman is flying, you have to give the reader a sense of movement. Based on everyday logic, he'd look like he's falling. But the cape gives the reader more information. If he was falling, the cape would trail above him, if he's jumping up, below him, and if he's flying, it's trailing ehind him. Optical cues like these are possible with light-weight fabric, and a cape was already the garment f choice for some other heroes, so they decided to use that for Superman, too.

My favorite physicist is Rudolf Clausius. He was the thermodynamicist who basically formed the idea of entropy, but he is barely known. So everything he did and was, makes him my favorite physicist across all dimensions.
I can't imagine having such a fundamental understanding of the world/universe we live in.

I had a chemistry teacher who was this enthusiastic and enjoyable to listen to, and thank God because I couldn't figure chemistry out at all.
Chemistry (in high school) made me a better student, because as long as we could compose the math around it, we were allowed to blow up just about anything and call it "lab"... ;o)

This guy is not good at explaining, since he simplifies way too much, and doesn't try to give as much information as possible in a easy way. He gives less information instead.
@@0x6a09 No, he's very good at simplified complex things.. Some people need these kind of simple explanation to get complex theories to get understood. Once you understand the basics, then you can proceed to look for deeper information about it.

Love that we have brilliant, accomplished scientists like Kaku et al who are also gifted and tolerant enough to explain incredibly complex concepts to laypeople (like me) with respect and erudition that is helpful and not patronizing. A rare gift, and much appreciated.

Although most of the time i understood nothing, but it still amazes me how we come up with crazy ideas just to explain things around us that we can't understand.

My favorite physicist is ALSO Isaac Newton. To have those thoughts and will to make these discoveries and theories at such a young age and also way back in those times was just amazing to me. If it weren’t for him, we would have been a lot further behind.
