"She gave me to this" ~ Emma, the modern Shakespeare. Truly iconic
"i am the gift. is it me" the way i burst out laughing
*Emma* "I am the gift. It is me."
*me* "Yes, you are :)"
Once you start reading War and Peace, it's physically impossible to put it down. I finished it in 3 days and after a week I re-read it. Tolstoy is a master of creating characters that diffuse and infuse into your bloodstream, leaving you intoxicated and utterly in love with them.
Based on your comment alone, I just bumped War and Peace up a few places on my TBR.
@@danni.phantom8184 Hope you'll enjoy it (I know you will.) ❤
Well done for reading it so fast! I’m halfway through at the moment and i’ve been reading it for 3 months, but it’s so good so far.
Which translation did you read?
Have you read any of his books before reading War and Peace? Any recommendations (I’m thinking of picking up one of his shorter books first)?
My moment of peace has arrived 😌
Same 🙌
Same🙌😌

I love it when you pronounce the names as they should be pronounced in their original language. It is such a respectful thing.
Exactly. She actually cares about the correct ways to pronounce names, places and countries. I love that
I’ve never understood why we can’t just call other countries by the names they call themselves, especially now in this globalized society.
@@stardusstie it’s ironically inefficient and counter intuitive for the sake of language
Hi! I’m Japanese and currently learning English through reading books while listening to audiobook. It’s still hard and tough to read English literature and my English skills still have loads of defects yet I’m keep going for it😊👍
You are doing great so far! Keep going!!
Amazing ! Props to you, you are doing so well. I’ve been trying to learn Japanese but between my terrible time management and how difficult it is just in general I’m struggling 😭
the amount of peace and quiet your videos bring into my life *chef's kiss*
You should really consider doing a podcast. Your voice is so calming to listen to.
I needed this. And tea. Hold up! I’m gonna make a cup of tea. Aaahhh~
Exactly what i did when i saw that emmie uploaded😌
ooh hope it was yummy whatever kind it was!!
It’s a rainy morning, I got a cup of tea and Emma posted? Such a perfect way to start the day :)
OMG, The Girl Who Drank The Moon is more than amazing!! I read it earlier this year and it was incredible, such an awesome start to this year! I laughed and cried but could not put this book down. I think this book should be on the school book list.💕
This will be my treat after Yoga with Adrienne + coffee and fresh bread ;)
that sounds so so lovely:')
The god of small things is my best read of the year so far. Beautiful and heartbreaking 💔
"Is it gemini season?" 😭😭😭😭😂😂😂😂😂 oh no emma
also...the desktop background is so pretty 👀
Le Carre died a couple of months ago. His books are fantastically cynical and realistic about spying. I've not read 'A Small Town in Germany', but I highly recommend The Spy Who Came in From The Cold; Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy; and Smiley's People. There's a kind of Fleming - Le Carre - Len Deighton triumvirate of great Cold War spy writing. Fleming is the most fantastic and adventure end (and probably the worst writer of the three), Len Deighton wrote The Ipcress File. His spies are more to the realistic end, particularly the Game, Set, and Match series. I'll stop waffling now.
Your voice is so soothing🥰... and the way you read is just perfect ... I think we need a full length audiobook with your voice ...
did you just say 'filming an asmr video'...??? omg the dream is coming true for the second time!!
okay now I heard asmr CHANNEL and I'm dying
YES!!!! :)
I really hope that you like War and Peace, I love Russian literature and I always feel sad when someone doesn't like it and I belive that it's usually because of the translation🥺I'm from a Slavic country and our language is similar to Russian so I'm pretty blessed with that
Oh my gosh. I study Russian at uni and TBH I HATED War and Peace and I don't enjoy Tolstoy. Our professor says that for example to enjoy and understand Anna Karenina you have to get divorced first (even though she doesn't recommend it, cause it's messy). I love Lermontov though and I truly enjoyed Rudin and Oblomov, I guess I love superfluous people.
@@Alex-wl9xw I actually didn't like Anna as much and now that you mention it I didn't fully understand all of her actions, and I never really connected with her, probably because I wasn't married off. I have respect for Tolstoy, well his writing abilities and I will forever be interested in that time period. I really liked War and Peace, it's a fascinating book to me, but I understand why so many people don't like it or are put off by it, it is not for everyone but I truly believe that the book itself deserves the respect that classics get.
I didn't like Dead Souls not because it's bad, probably because it was never finished and I simply missed/didn't get/couldn't fully enjoy half of the references that the book offered.
Could you recommend your favorite Russian lit?😊
Im halfway through volume 2 at the moment and i LOVE IT. i started reading it after watching the great comet (a musical focusing on Natasha and Pierre) but I love Tolstoy’s writing and i’m finding it so interesting. It’s gonna take a while to get through it but im enjoying it a lot.
@@elinorrose344 which translation are you reading?
@@VeronicaIPS it’s an old leather bound version I found at my grandmas so I have no idea! Edit: they are a set of three vintage books published by heron books but there is no translator that I can find. I’m pretty sure they are over 50 years old.
Our hostess has the best erudition, voice, smile and manner. And even a cute haircut.
22:12 she is wearing mismatched socks and I am here for it lmao
I just found your channel (as a soon to be English major your video's fell into my 'youtube algorithm') and I've binged a lot of your video's. I just wanted to say you have literally the most calming voice I've ever heard :)
Awe hi! thank you lovely☺️🌸
The scenery in the beginning was so beautiful and it made me really calm🥰
So happy to see a John le Carre book! Unfortunately, he passed away last December :(
kitchen is the definition of a comfort read, hope you love it emma🤍
Watching emmie while drinking a cup of tea is the perfect weekend :-)
I have to read so much for school and these videos always get me motivated to continue
War and Peace is WONDERFUL I am so hoping you love it and I'm looking forward to your thoughts!! The BBC mini-series is also so beautiful! It's lovely to be able to remember character thoughts and details and descriptions and all that as you're going along watching it. Cause it's also kinda sad to say goodbye after spending all those pages immersed in it, so the series is a treat at the end. There's so much to reflect on and it stays with you (at least in my experience) for a long, long time. UGH I just love it so much and I hope you will too! Apologies for my gushing haha.
84 Charing Crossroad is one of my favourite books!! Please read it soon it’s so sweet, funny and emotional. I just read it recently :)
It is one of my favorites too! ❤
I love love love your long vlogs! 😍🥰 makes me feel a lot better and full of peace! Thank you so much! You are such a sweet person it feels like watching a good friend 🤗💕 best wishes from Germany
The God of Small Things is so good, I’m glad you’re reading it. I just finished writing an essay for class on it. Always love your videos❤️
Love how passionate you are about the people that subscribe to you and reading I LOOOOOOOOOVE reading never with out a book
War and Peace is one of the best books I've ever read. At first you may get confused by the amount of caracthers that there are, but the way Tolstoy writes each one of them makes it impossible for you to not be able to get into each one's mind and have super strong emotions for everyone.
Just watched this today as I had a lot in my mind from the past few days. Thank you for sharing your world with us. You are a gift :)
Very excited for your thoughts on War and Peace. It was a very unique reading experience for me. There are so many small moments that stick out in my mind. The Maude translation is the way to go too 👍
You and your videos always cure my reading slumps. Thank you for being so wonderful and calming. Much love
I have the girl who drank the moon in my bookshelf and I still haven't got around to reading ittttt
same
SAME the cover is so pretty though
You need to! It is a children's book so don't expect too much, but it's still pretty magical and interesting.
it's such a good book! I read it when I was about 7 or 8 years old.
I am with you on the Pickwick Papers. I still like it, and it draws me in for a while but then I fall out of it again.
I love your vlogs... They bring peace and happiness to me💛💛
💕 Thank you, Emma. I was feeling down today but feel better now
Because of you, I am lining up The God of Small Things next after I finish No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai. It has been in my shelf for a while I don't know why I didn't pay attention to it but you brought me back to it. :)
Ah, so much book love! This was absolutely lovely 💕
Omg i had never seen a black chipmunk Before :0.
I always look forward to these videos. Perfect cosy Sunday afternoon watch. Cannot wait until you start your asmr channel!! 🥰
Pickwick Papers wasn’t my favorite through the first half, but then after the debtor’s prison incident when things really started to feel less serialized and more tied together I really started liking it and finished the second half in just a couple days! (Tho I did also love Bleak House, so that may tie into why I was so interested in those parts of Pickwick.)
Emma, your videos reduce my anxiety... Thank you for that! Stay safe and healthy!
I can't believe kingdom of wicked was that disappointing. It was all over booktube and bookstagram, oh my gods,it had so many editions and so much promotion
ahh I needed this before starting a new week. thank you Emma!!
sending love from Italy xx 💗
I saw The Girl Who Drank The Moon at a used bookstore and just had a vague good feelings about it but i didn’t remember from where. I bought it and remembered you read it once so looking forward to reading it now! 🌟
did you read? how was it if you did
I skipped Pickwick Papers and started War & Peace early and I can’t wait for you to start it!
I needed the cozy vibes
You are the gift🌷
I love books! I love ASMR! Yay to your channels!!
Honestly your videos make my day
your baby yoda always give me serotonin
"FrankoPop" is great! It's a "blend" - which is a type of speech error, but at the same time also a productive word formation process! So yay ^^ looking at the bright side ✨
I'm so excited for War and Peace!
FYI I read the Briggs translation of War and Peace and it was phenomenal! Was much more readable than the Constance Garnett translation of Anna Karenina.
There is a lot of French in the book. I am not sure if Maude translates it, but the Briggs one translates it in-text but will add something like “x person said in French” and the P&V translation translates it in footnotes. I would highly recommend before you start to make sure you will be able to easily read the French. It is important to be able to understand it and you won’t want to have to translate everything!
The girl who drank the moon is really good, I have read it in 2020
Thank you Emma for your beautiful content xx
Love love love your videos!
love these types of videos
I am currently making my way through the Stalking Jack the Ripper series by Kerri Maniscalco! I am really liking them.
Book two is basically dark academia.
I'm so excited for your next debate!!
The God of Small Things sounds incredible, I definitely need to read it soon!
"Franko pop" made me laugh so much 😂
Lovely vlog as always xxx
Hey Emma: I liked the segue from micro-megas to small things god. Happy Spring.
this is just what I needed!!
GOOD I LOVE BOOKS TOO FRIEND
TNX FOR SHARING . LKED AND BEST VIEW
I hope you enjoy '84 Charing Cross Road.' I have seen the play, and the movie. Also very lucky to visit the place as well. But unfortunately it's not there anymore.
you would really enjoy the light novel series " restaurant to another world "! A cozy series of a magic restaurant that can connect to parallel worlds and serves all kinds of people and fantasy creatures
When you reading all the classics I want to read them too ^^ lately I’m reading Virginia Woolf
Okay but the black squirrel in the intro was adorable
Do you have some recomendations of similar books to the girl who drank the moon? I have just finished and I am in love! All the atmosphere, the characters and the writing is so good.
thank you for this video omg this came in the perfect time
you've got this!! sending you all the calm
from Brazil..... and totally in love with this channel. idk why but you remind me to the series "normal people".
(probably my english is not perfect)
Canada looks so beautiful:( I wanna live there 😭
Hi awesome video! Was wondering if you could tell me where you purchased your Book Head picture that was behind you to your right on your last video or at least if you know the Artist. It’s super cute! ☺️
The 84, Charing Cross Road made me 😭
You should read the Black Dagger Brotherhood series! It's a paranormal adult romance series with vampires, and the lore is actually really cool.
we want a reaction clip to the ending of the god of small things !!!
Haha i cheated and started on War and Peace already! Couldn't really get into the Pickwick papers. And omgosh! The book has been phenomenal 😍😍
Your necklace is so beautiful, where did you get it from?
Franko Pop is actually very catchy.
I'm liking the Pickwick Papers it just feels very obvious that it was published and meant to be read in monthly installments. The plot can drag at times. But wow do I love Samuel Weller
i love your videos
I'm enjoying The Pickwick Papers far more than I anticipated haha.. I'm about 400 pages in now and I can't wait for your liveshow ✨have you picked a date for it?
ah that's amazing! I believe it should still be the first Saturday in April on my channel, so April 3rd at 2pmEST :)
Frankopop, I like that one
YES
I'm also sooo excited to start War and Peace with you guys! Not sure I'll finish by the time of the discussion, but I'll try :)
TIL Canada has black squirrels and I wish Britain had them now too
What book is it again behind the girl who drank the sailor moon or whatever it was called?
It's actually Charing Cross Road as in 'chair'. That's the beauty of British English, it's not consistent ;D
haha thank you!!
Is War and Piece a difficult or easy book?
so excited for you to read kitchen
Does anyone know which video Noelle Gallagher talked about 84 Charing Cross Rd? I wanna watch it again hehe
One question: how is your impression of joseph conrad? I want to start some of his work, because i heard he owns a unique approach to the english language. Your videos send me a message that you love the language of works too.. (especially it was nice to see your videos of rilke. I'm german and it was a surprise to see appreciation of rilke overseas...). I would like to hear your opinion.
I also didn't like gods of jade and shadow but everyone seemed to love it.
❤
Another long video! ♥✨
damnnn i wanna unhaul kingdom of the wicked now before even reading it
I love the girl who loves literature
👍👍🌳🌳
