This was a half-remembered childhood recollection up until a few minutes ago. This must have been on cable in the mid-80’s
As a kid I remember seeing the film crew filming the under-the-bridge scenes in a park near my house. And I remember eagerly awaiting the day the movie would premiere on the local PBS station.
I used to rent this movie as a child from the local VHS store. Excited to finally be able to watch it again after all these years!

I had this on tape as a kid, taped it off of the Disney channel. The music is so much more awesome than I remember.
I had forgotton about this movie until I first saw Sam Waterson on Law & Order in my 20s. Initially, it was driving me nuts because I could not remember what I had seen him in before. Eventually I found his IMDB page and found the name of this movie and then I had to search for it on here. Once I watched it, it all came flooding back. I think I first saw this movie when PBS did a reshowing of it in 1989 when I was about 6 or 7 and I recall being obsessed with Kalotte the mermaid (go figure as this was also when Little Mermaid came out so I was all about the fins). But man it's so strange to see Sam Waterson playing such a fun and carefree character given how serious he is on Law & Order and William H. Macy as Socrates is weird. Thanks for the walk down memory lane with this quirky little movie.
Absolutely adored this movie as a kid. Only had bits and pieces of memories of this, and didnt even realize they were from the same film! The set design in the airplane is so delightfully 80's. Love this.

Trolls live in Trollheim. In Old Norse the word for a sorcerer was either "Troll man" or "Finnish Man".
I loved this movie so much as a kid. Can't believe its been almost 40 years. Ironic the first scene is this kid wanting to grow facial hair and grow up and I would do anything to be his age again and just stop rushing time.
