for strangers i would nt recommend turning into volks parking area without any reason and than have to turn your car arround. always keep moving! that unwanted approach can raise peoples suspicions or sometimes make them angry. It must have been winter because the streets were dead. during summertime its a diffrent picture. there have been lovely african/jamaican people living in there for generations. it never looks scary but make no mistake, those streets have seen a lot of crime and violence. The gangs, criminals and drug-addicts never were far away from Alexandra Park.
