    Hey welcome back! Good to see you! Yes this is a “Vault” track, written age 20-21. Keep that in mind, yes it’s petty, but she was 20-21. Now that she’s re-recording her first 6 albums, she’s adding songs from the “Vault”. She added 10 Vault tracks to the Red Taylor’s Version release. They are good tracks, could’ve and probably should’ve made the OG album. She actually gave 2 of the songs to other groups and they recorded them.
    The video is very good, it was nominated for best video at the Country Music Awards, not sure you noticed Blake Lively directed this. And, she didn’t ruin the wedding. She’s just in his imagination, he keeps thinking about her at his wedding. But she’s not really there. If you go back and look, the best man was giving the speech, but the groom looks up and sees her instead. He can’t stop thinking about her, aka the title of the song. It is very aesthetic and gorgeous video.
    If you haven’t checked out her Vault tracks from Red TV, they are good!
    Ronan;
    Better Man ( given to Little Big Town and won 2 Grammy’s);
    Nothing New (with Phoebe Bridgers);
    Babe (she gave this one to Sugarland and it was a huge hit);
    Message in a Bottle (the first pop song she wrote with Max Martin in 2011, it’s been on the charts lately);
    Forever Winter (about a friend who committed suicide);
    Run (the first of 4 songs written with Ed Sheeran and his favorite);
    The Very First Night;
    All Too Well 10 minute version (the song in its original form before edited down for the OG album, just replaced American Pie as the longest #1 song worldwide that had reigned for 50 years).

    You would really love the song “nothing new” from the vault tracks on red featuring phoebe bridgers. Its critically acclaimed as the best one from the vault tracks and it’s something you would really enjoy and i think is worth checking out.

    This is why Taylor's successful. She is very relateable. Just like what you said, everyone deals with their problems differently. And some can just relate to this one. Sometimes we just imagine doing things the way she does in songs or in music videos cuz we cant really do it in real life. Music is an escape from reality and thats basically what shes giving us. Taking us to a different place where we can just be petty. We love petty Taylor. LOL Happy to see you reacting to Taylor again. :)

    Great reaction!
    I totally see what you mean by pettiness and yes it's totally it! I think she was really young writing this song, probably 21, and she went through a breakup with a quite older man (we're not saying his name because it's just speculation). Red album is quite all about this breakup (she said it herself, talking about the album's songs) and she talk about this lovestory in so many different ways in Red. All too well is quite the timeline of the events, the moment I knew is about the moment she realised that she wasn't experiemcing what love should be like i think, 22 is about her going out having fun to forget about this ended love, we are never getting back togheter is as petty as I bet you think about me. I think these songs represent well the way some young people react to heartbreaks, you try to say to yourself that it's the other person who's going to miss you, that you are as you say "the catch". I think it's a quite common defensive mechanism, it's like trying to prove yourself that you are enough even if the other person leaves you. I agree that it's quite childish as a way of approach a problem in life but it's also quite relatable!
    I think that if you put it in the right contest (a person who's very bitter about the ending of her first "real" relationship, or at least what she said it was like to her) it all falls in the right place.
    Good opinions anyway, I agree that it can leave a wrong message but it's also a real emotion that anybody could feel so I think in the end it's just about our music taste and the vibes we are looking for! 😊

    rip im first so i guess it's my duty to explain. This is one of her "from the vault" tracks. So it was written around 2012 when the Red album was first released but didn't make the final album. But as part of these rerecorded albums, she's also including songs she wrote at the time that didn't make the originals album and have just been chilling in the demos or whatever for 10 years. This is one of those. I hope that makes sense lmfao

    Also, the entire scene is his imagination in the men's room of the church; the wedding scene starts and ends in the mirror over the sink. It is rather a strong callout to her song Speak Now, which also describes an imaginary disrupted wedding. She writes some songs with a great sense of humor; cf., Blank Space, Shake It Off, I Did Something Bad, Mean -- she tries to make music fun. As for petty, why not? She was dumped by the guy.

    She is dressed is red; swaps white flowers for red; tints the punch red; adds red cherries to the drinks ------ because her album is Red. She gets drunk in public (because she was NOT 21 when she dated him, and never drank in public). She gives the bride a gift---- the scarf she talks about in the song All Too Well. She ends up at the kids' table because he treated her like she was a kid; when she is in the bridal dress, she is wearing red Keds sneakers for her shoes (because Keds was a sponsor of her Red Tour and provided her entire entourage with those sneakers). By the way, the cake is RED velvet as just another way to emphasize the record. The red guitar and dress at the end are straight off her stage show for the Red Tour.
    Oh, she deliberately emphasized her "country accent" and invited Chris Stapleton to feature because he (Jake Gyllenhaal, never id'd by Taylor, but obvious) listens to indie music and didn't respect her choice of music (even though he started dating her a week after _her_ album {Speak Now} went platinum in less than a week) . Red dropped in mid October in 2012; if you watch the We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together (WANEGBT) mv, she is having a Halloween party; the people in animal costumes are her band.

    Glad you’re back and well! I don’t “know” music, but I know sound and this sounds like a country waltz to my ears. Love it. I have been visiting my Mike Patton (Faith No More, Mr. Bungle records) so my brain is driving towards the composition as of late. As always, enjoyed the reaction, Swifts genius and watching you process your 💭 thoughts on the spot.

      Country waltz! I think I have a soft spot for waltz. Maybe that's my kinda dance music haha idk but it's intoxicating in a very gentle and calm way. I like it. As if I'm a tree swaying with a pleasant and rhythmic summer breeze. It gets me.

      It's the first thing I thought of and I find it JAUNTY. I want to have a conversation with it. (IGNORE PLEASE) PS: I feel as if that last part you wrote came out of my mind... eerie. Looking forward to more Taylor reactions and podcasts. I appreciate how you leave in your thoughts in the reactions and their still interesting - which I find rare to get both. Thanks for bringing something new to the table successfully. Type of conversations I'd have my gaggle.

    Of course there is a double meaning to the scenes with the kids, imo. Considering most of Red was about Jake, I would say the kids are a reference to what Jake said to her that if they had been closer in age, it might have worked out. Also, the kids seem to reference the fact that she had many young fans, making her music less cool than the Indie music the pretentious Jake listened to. Of course, he did miss her, as the song infers. He tried to get back with her, and was telling people they were getting back together, which angered her. The mv, is just a 2021 take of the song, and it actually reminds me of Speak Now, which is based on a conversation she heard about a friend’s love life.

    Songs dont have to be “correct” to be good. It’s representing a feeling we can have at the time. Like a revenge song…I don’t condone revenge, but I can certainly relate to feeling the desire for revenge.

    Hey J! Nice to see you, welcome back! Great reaction. Yeah it is a pretty petty song lol. This album was all shades of a relationship that ended in heartbreak, so this is the petty moment in all that. Maybe the only one now that I think of it, and it didn't make the original album, but I see that you already have gotten lots of explanation so I won't add to that. But I enjoyed hearing what you had to say about it. Would you react to some more of this album? I also think you would enjoy the song "Nothing New" (I may have suggested that to you already but I can't remember) it features Phoebe Bridgers, and the melody sounds very Matthew Pryor (The Get Up Kids, The New Amsterdams) inspired. Great song though. Anyway, hope all is well with you!

    I feel like this is one of the early stages of the breakup when you are still very hurt and you really want the other person to hurt too.
    Further along the grieving process, you get to the point where you don't care if they miss you or not.

    Oh yeah, Tayor writes really great petty songs and I Bet You Think About Me is definitely one of her best songs in this category. Although I do agree that pettiness is not a healthy way of coping with broken relationships, I want to believe the main purpose of this type of songs is to make the audience laugh.

    Oh. And sadly yes. Earlier in Taylor's career she basically created the "pick me ass bitch" and "not like other girls trope". She definitely grew out of it. Thank fk. That really stopped me liking a lot of her music earlier in her career.

    By the way, although many people believe that her lyrics are about ex-boyfriends they are really about her relationship with Hollywood and the many fans that she has who deny that they are fans and mock her even though she they love her and her music.
