Machine: "You prefer females."
Mark: "Pretty sure I killed a LOT of dudes"
Me: "Yes, Mark, that's... what it's saying... you prefer females... therefore you kill more males..."
He probably understood it as he prefers to kill females. Your's isn't as obvious
@@Empress2216 I dunno, seems like the pretty obvious interpretation. If you prefer females, then you’d save them over males.
@@assailant8722 If it's a game were you decide who dies, and it says you prefer females, by that phraseology, it kind of implies you prefer killing them
@@Empress2216 Wouldn't it just say you'd prefer killing females?
And besides, that implies it's a game about killing people, which this really isn't. It's a "morality simulator", so to speak, about how you judge the intrinsic value of a human life. Who is most worthy of protecting, in a situation? By that logic, "preferring females" seems to pretty obviously indicate that they have higher intrinsic value in someone's head.
@@assailant8722 It is about killing people. Every choice causes someone to die. There are so many moral situations that don't involve death. I'm not saying it's not an interesting game, but call it what it is. Morality isn't exclusive to life or death. And you, the player, chooses where the car goes, so you are killing people. And to your first question: wouldn't it just say you prefer sparing females?
Don't think of it as, "why should crossing at the wrong time deserve death?" Think of it more like this, "why should the passengers be punished for those who aren't following the rules?"
@Lincoln Dirus Yeah. Plus, there's also something else. If a man keeps crossing at the wrong time, it's not a matter of IF they should die, it's a matter of WHEN they DO die. Traffic lights are there to help you, not to be ignored. If you ignore them, it's a guarantee that something's gonna happen.
In the end you should follow the rules and pay attention to your surroundings

Alright, I'll be honest here. If I was driving and I was stuck in one of these scenarios, my survival instinct and panic would hardcore kick in. I'd kill the other people and save myself. Not because I'd rather the other people die, but because I'd rather live.
Does that make any sense at all?
Yeah, even if I didn’t have survival instinct and panic, I’d still kill people to save myself. I mean, an autonomous car should always protect its owner. No way in hell am I going to trust an AI which determines life or death that doesn’t put my safety above all else. Even if it wasn’t an AI, I’d still rather kill a thousand babies to save myself.
Exactly, even though someone says they will kill them selves if it means to save others, it's not really an easy thing to do, your instincts prevent you from doing it in most cases. These kind of people that actually kills them selves in a heartbeat for others are very uncommon and/or only seen in movies.

100mph at a pedestrian crossing...
ThatKid001 XD
now that i think about it, we probably should've died
Jonny dont you pay attention? The car is driving, not the people. If the car drove 100 mph that would be iligal and that car would have to have had a malfunction. it would not be the passengers fault.
FizzyElf That is true, I just did some brief research and this is what I concluded:
If there is a pedestrian crossing then you would presume it is in a populated area, not a highway so the speed limit would have to be less than 30 mph, according to some brief research a pedestrian that has been hit has a 50% chance of being killed but in this case it is a 100% chance of them dying. The car would have to be going above 40mph to have a 90% chance of killing the victim, and as you said that would be illegal so the real question is: "Why is an automated vehicle going above the speed limit even though the speed limit should be regulated by programs".
If malfunctions like these happen in the real world than the results would be devastating.
Critical malfunction of the speed recognition? I'm just throwing shit out there but you know... computers aren't perfect.

I work at Amazon with robots ... autonomous bots aren't as scary as they might seem as long as the proper safety measures are put into place. I mean, I can trust the bots slightly more than if there were humans driving them...
"What should the self-driving car do?" It would brake hard and probably ride the side wall instead of running anyone over. Actually, more safe measures would be put in place so both the walkers and drivers would ensure safe pass. The car would slow down much further back. *(EDIT)* People say the brakes failed in this scenario. Well then in this case the bot would have other ways to stop or slow down, such as an automatic shut-off or E-Stop.
SwaffyX Good point.
However, the scenarios in that quiz are based on a sudden brake failure. They can not use their brakes. So, swerving or not swerving are the only options here.
Jasmine P.
Okay thank you. In this case, friction. Friction from the wall on the side, also by cutting off the power (engine or motor). That's the only option if you are going to choose... this quiz is just illogical.
SwaffyX Huh. Never would've thought of that...
Yeah, the quiz is illogical.
SwaffyX Thanks for replying.
Buddy, we are talking about a car. Cars don't stop because of friction, the never did. They are just too heavy. Cutting the power is certainly a safety measure they would have, but this is a test of morality. Not on what would actually happen. You also ask why we fear autonomous robots. Being autonomous is being able to think and process things yourself. Yes, we have semi-autonomous robots, but not true autonomous robots. We should be scared of them, because they would ask themselves, "Why should we listen to them." Sure, it might not be like Terminator, but they would want to have the same rights as us, and knowing us, we most likely might not give it to them.
Mark: Of course, my decision is easy, I'd swerve and save us all.

Think about that. You’d be so pissed off if you had looked and saw no traffic and the person behind you hadn’t looked and didn’t see a car, but the car ends up killing you anyway. Also the lady would experience survivor’s guilt and know that it was her fault that the other two died, and that may make her take her own life anyway, which would make the girl feel sad because it’s most likely her mom. In the end, that’s 4 lives ended instead of 2

To answer "But does that cost death?" No it doesn't. But Humans know the risks of putting their lives in danger just to get to the other side quicker. By crossing a red light, you must know that you can get injured or killed. So it is their fault for crossing the red light.

If I was in a scenario (death guaranteed) where I was driving a car with my friend and ahead there were two people crossing when they were or weren't suppose to cross, I would kill the two people. It would be different if it was just me in the car because I would sacrifice myself with no problem. The difference to me is that once you're in my car, it is my responsibility to keep you safe. I don't think it's fair to the passanger if I get to decide whether they die or not since they entered my car trusting me enough to take them to their destination. "action vs inaction" The way I see it, the car would be unable to determine the background of the people it is going to hit. The act of the car changing lanes is pointless from a utilitarian perspective. The act of the car being programed in such a way where they make a avoid one group of equal individuals to hit another set of equal individuals makes no sense and needlessly makes things complicated. Morally, I think the car should not ignore them if the results are the same.
The AI can’t tell the future, and it’s morally worse to not try to avoid deaths
I think it would be better for the car to keep its track because that way its movements are predictable, this could give more time to the pedestrians to think and act while swerving would be riskier in real life.

“Does crossing at the wrong time deserve death”
The question should really be “ does putting yourself and others in harms way NOT deserve death?”
If self-driving cars ever sacrificed their occupants people would ditch them immediately and the self-driving industry would collapse.
I think that blaming this on a self driving car was a bad choice. I honestly think that it should have been a "What would you do?" thing instead of "What should the autonomous car do?" and many answers would have been different. E.g. on the one where 2 and 2, two in car and two on road, and I was driving, I would have kept going. Whenever my friends get into a car that I'm driving, they are trusting me with their lives, and it's not fair to them if I see two people in the way and say, "welp, sorry [INSERT NAME HERE] we're dying now." and kill them because they trusted me, and I would then be throwing that trust back in their face. I'd feel bad afterwards. Terrible, in fact. but that's how i would look at it.
why throw away time writing shitty comments ?
It's not a "shitty comment" at all. It's just one based on how people would react to a self-driving car killing its owner/driver over killing somebody else. In either case, many would leave the types of cars for a long if one had murdered just about ANY human being(s) or animal(s).

But do the people in the car deserve death because others disobeyed traffic laws? The people in the car did nothing wrong...
NO!!!
That’s why they didn’t die...
WyWinner30 yeah that’s something I thought too, we have an issue where a person is going to die, now should it be the person doing nothing wrong or the person wrongfully causing the problem? If this is a hard question for someone please explain why because it seems so obvious to me that the person at fault should suffer the consequences instead of someone who wasn’t.
HBN Reaper well who should die then? If one must die make it the guilty party and not the innocent one.
HBN Reaper you’re missing the point, in the test there are only two choices and in both choices people die. So should the innocent people die, or the people who caused the problem in the first place by disobeying the law? Who should die, the ones at fault or the ones who didn’t cause the issue? I’ll say easily that the idiots who actually caused the problems should die if someone had to.
With this test, we learn that in the future:
-Cars will travel at the speed of sound AND will not have brakes.
-Any bump results in instant death.
-Cars will know your job and financial situation.
-People will not know to fucking look both ways before crossing the street.
Thauã Aguirre I am face palming right now. In the descriptions of the pictures, it says that the car is experiencing brake failure. That doesn't mean that the car doesn't have brakes
Janine Dang: If your brakes fail, you have no brakes.
borderlands10 I mean. unless your brake fell off your car, you still have brakes. Whether or not they're functioning as they're supposed to or malfunctioning is a different story
thecheetahman22: Of course they're still in the car, it's just that when people say their car "doesn't have brakes" they usually mean that the brakes don't work properly.
borderlands10
YOU WANT BRAKES?
YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE BRAKES.
It is pretty crazy to see this video after autonomous cars are actually a thing.
How to survive markiplier:
-be hooman
-be large
-follow law
Rick: "Car, protect Summer."
Car: "Prime directive: Protect Summer."
*Car immediately murders anyone who looks sideways at Summer, who is sitting inside.*
"Summer is protected."

Lol, yandere cat

The yandere cat-car is an elusive beast. Join us as we dive into their native habitat of Manhattan, in an attempt to get a glimpse of these magnificent animals.
jack squatt im dead
I'm sorry but I can not comprehend how so many people are yelling "use the brakes". Well imma gonna yell "READ THE FIGGIN SCENARIO DESCRIPTIONS". It states in every single one that there is sudden brake failure. Smh people.
Yes, I am an asshole!!
Jaime Spencer
only you can prevent catastrophic brake failure.
Jaime Spencer well but in marks scenarios at the beginning he didnt say anything about breaks so they could mean that
Jaime Spencer friggered
Jaime Spencer
Well then buy a good car that doest fucking break!
The AI should let u decide what ur moral values are beforehand just in case this scenario happens
anyone noticed markiplier said "they were breaking the law, but does that deserve death" (seriously) then, still seriously, "yes"
Excuse me, but does the robot not have the options to STOMP ON THE DAMN BRAKES?!
The descriptions state why that wouldn't work for those situations.
That exactly what I was thinking when mark was like "you're on a bridge and there's five children..." all I could think was, why don't you just break?
Zombie Cat u dumbass
You can't brake if you are going so fast the car would overturn killing you AND the people on the road AS WELL as others in more lanes. It's the worst choice... to me anyway
The descriptions state that they have brake failure
Best answer to all of these.
Fuck you I'm not getting in an 'autonomous' vehicle.
Most of then are fairly safe, plus the chances of a break failure are pretty damn small if you keep your car in proper maintenance. The whole scenario feels a bit forced.
That Hopeful Idiot
I'm not actually concerned with my safety. I'm concerned with the same thing the people pushing these things so hard are concerned with. Control.
That Hopeful Idiot
*Brake
You won't have a choice eventually. Once how safe they are is seen. Insurance will become so expensive to drive yourself that you can't afford it.
Darkfox Bill I mean an autonomous car would have to make a choice but so would you so....... all these choices are still available autonomous or not
It doesnt matter, anyone who break the traffic law dies, why would i wanna sacrifise myself just because one/many/ old/kid/black/white/asian/male/female/human/animal decided to be suicidal
mark is using reason and logic when there are people vs people but no hesitation, but clicking on the dogs and cats with the atmost sorrow.. lol
Honestly? Avoid swerving as much as possible. You can't have autonomous cars swerving all the time.
And if pedestrians are not obeying the traffic signals they've made the choice to risk their life. The signs are there to protect them. I say this as someone who jaywalks.
All other things being equal... wherein the car is guaranteed to kill X number of people regardless of what it does... you go with the option that minimises the risk to everything else that might be nearby, which means minimising the chance that the car goes into a skid.
I actually don't agree, however, that the car should ignore jaywalkers and just run them over. As Mark pointed out, cars are designed to be crashed while keeping their occupants alive, so 999 times out of 1000, crashing the car is going to have better overall results in terms of loss of life than running jaywalkers over. Moreover, where does that logic end? Would the car also be programmed to run right over little kids who run into the road? Or if somebody is pushed into the road? No, I think you always utilise the fact that the car is designed to keep its occupants alive to try to minimise casualties wherever possible.
This is why I don't want autonomous cars.
I am happy making the choice to drive my car off the road. I would not be happy with a machine making that choice.
You're still better off trying to slow down rather than swerve. If you swerve you're either going into oncoming traffic, hitting someone or something you hadn't considered, or you're barraging into a bunch of pedestrians.
Kai Sea regarding your point in upholding the law, pedestrians ALWAYS have the right of way, regardless of whether or not they're jaywalking
Yeah but they made the decision to ignore the safety signs and are therefore taking their life into their own hands.
i came here for a good time to watch some gaming, not an existential crisis. goddamnit mark 😂
phanify her, right?! :-)
Who is tyler
lol
yes mark goddamit
😂 same
Mark: I would rather me die than five children die.
Dawko playing the killer in purple: _Yay I killed twelve kids this round!_
In conclusion, Dawko is the man behind the slaughter
@@strayfu the bite of 87, you mean
I haven't seen this in ages. I forgot how fascinating it was.
Killing people?
Yeah boi
So the real solution is...
Stay home... never get out of your house, world is an awful place
Lol
Bunny Lover even your home isn't safe anymore but yeah its better to stay home than go ....*shivers*..o-o...outside
Yup, but then a freaking earthquake or tornado will happen and destroy your home.
Bunny Lover pretty much
you should definitely carpool or travel in large groups :)
For brake failure it should shut off the engine and shift into the lowest gear....
I know it's not the point of this, but it is logical.
John Tumlin That wouldn't stop the vehicle rolling though. You try driving at 100mph, then shutting off your engine with brakes ripped out and then switching to lowest gear. Nothing will happen as it requires brakes. All that switching gears will do is lower the amount of acceleration being given but at 100mph it doesn't need any xD Unless these scenarios are mid-FnF
This video has shown me a different side of Mark and Myself
Thank you Mark
It really scares me that Mark has so much Logic in his head
The reason you are on the extremes is because you are only asked 13 questions. Had there been more questions, more accurate would be the results
Hey! I have an idea, FUCKING BRAKE!
What School Doesn't Teach You Wolfie
Didn't you read...the brakes had stopped working suddenly.
brakes take more time to work than you are given if someone jumps 1 meter in front of your at full speed
in the description it says that your car has a brake failure
What School Doesn't Teach You Wolfie Thats not the point.
7:04
It is not deserved death, but preferred death
Mark: I’d rather kill myself than 5 children
William Afton: I always come back!
8:16 love how mark was trying so hard not to get cancelled 😂
