They feared an explosion so got everyone into the rowboats which they anchored to the ship and were hauled behind the Mary Celeste. They didnt furl the sails completely, panic perhaps, so the Celeste was still driving forward, not at great speed, but too much for the ropes holding the rowboats to manage. They snapped. Those on the rowboats could only watch the ship sail away. I think it was the best theory Ive watched. Too bad it wasnt complete here to see. Edit: And yes another theory.

Maybe the crew started getting sick from a contageous disease (small pox?), thrown overboard after death & the remaining crew left on the lifeboat. The virus died off without living hosts by the time the ship was discovered. Maybe?
I hypothesise there is some dimension opposite to ours. At certain points within earth's magnetic Flux there are points which are weak. If you imagine a piece of paper. If you look at it directly we only see the one side. If you put a hole in that paper it can allow us to see tye other side. Maybe a point in which the Mary celeste sailed they came upon a hole in the paper so to speak.
