This achievement is even more remarkable as she manages this feat in a dozen languages.
She is fluent in French, Italian, English & Spanish, born in Belgium (dad), first six years in Sicily (mom).
Moving to Montreal (Canada) in the early 90s, where she began her international career,
became a Canadian citizen and still lives here with her family.
Check out her: Caruso, Addagio (English or Italian), Broken Vow amongst others.

Lara not only sings, she lives emotionally this song,a cocktail of sadness, resignation, anger, and those voice transitions from low to high without a wrinkle moving on her face, that sigh after almost every lyric, and final, she stays almost 1 minute in that story of the song until she interacts again, with the audience!!! Great voice,i love her!

Andre U said it best. To describe Lara as a "singer" is to understate her real ability. Lara describes herself as a songwriter with a voice. Andre describes her as a storyteller with a voice. would describe her as a word painter.

Sounds crazy to discover the one and only Lara Fabian in .....2021, but better late than never ;). Welcome to Lara's world. Please comment "Adagio", "Requiem pour un fou", "Broken vow", "You're not from here", "Love by grace", "Caruso", "Perdere l'amore", "Quedate", "Calling you" , "Always" etc...Merci!
Lara Fabian could have been a superstar worldwide (and in the USA in particular), she confessed last year in Canada where she lives, the reason why she didn't make it in the USA. At the time, she and Céline Dion had the same music company (Sony), Céline was already a star in America, when Lara had just arrived. Lara revealed that Céline Dion's team (not Céline herself) did everything to sink her/sabotage her career as Lara had the whole package to also become an immense star in America, and worldwide. The music company didn't want another huge voice to compete with Céline's, and instead of supporting her, of supporting her style of music/songs (such as 'Love by Grace'), Lara was forced to leave it for another company and forced to change her professional team. As a result, it was all over, the other company formated Lara to make her sing pop songs such as "I will love again", a style of music/songs for which Lara and her stunning voice weren't made for, they also wanted her to lose 20 kilos and asked her to go blond. Such a waste, as she should be as famous and successful as Céline or Mariah Carey today.
Having said that, she has a lot of respect & admiration for Céline Dion, and is very happy with her great career. Her idol remains Barbara Streisand. (Funny anectote here about her : czcams.com/video/auc0X3AV8fw/video.html )

I get them at all the exact same places you were and one of the reasons i listen to it so much. I honestly think chills are our souls connection to the emotion of a song. Not to get too spiritual here but for me songs that bring that type of reaction prove the existence of chakras and the “energy” that flows through is which is love. This song creates that feeling clear through the body at least in those of us that another commenter stated are not completely dead. Lol

Lara is amazing and so underrated in the englishspeaking world. I had not heard of her until I found Dimash and it is so obvious why she is an inspiration to him and why Dimash was allowed to cover some of the songs Igor Krutoy wrote for Lara. Such storytelling and being completely living the song added to amazing vocal technics. If you listen to the song Your Love by Dimash, the composer is Igor Krutoy and the lyricist is Lara Fabian. Wanna give wifey more operatic chills? Choose Ti Amo Cosi with Lara and Dimash together with soprano Aida Garifullina. hello from Avignon - France, this song was writting by Mister Serges Lama and music composed by Miss Alice Donnat in 1973.
Lara is not my "favourite" singer (it's anneke van griesbergen) but this song is a masterpiece : she is the woman in the song wh'os sick and suffering for love, at the end she looks really exhausted...
you can try other wonderful songs like : "The Eye of Love" with Noa live in trocadero or "Je suis ton autre" with Maurane... beautiful duets
if you want to discover other french singers, may I suggest you :
Daniel Balavoine : tous les cris les SOS - He sang in 1979, before Dimash : "SOS d'un terrien en détresse" - in Starmania the Opera Rock show
Jean Jacques Goldman : "Ensembles" (a canon song), or "Juste Après"..... he's the greatest composer in France since 1980 he's composed for Céline Dion many times
Renaud "Mistral gagnant" or "Morgan de toi".. those songs are so beautiful because of the lyrics, you have to translate them.
    Have a great day.

Je suis malade (song) The real story of the song
When the song was written, Lara Fabian was only 3 years old.
Je suis malade is a song by Serge Lama, released in 1973 as a single and on the album Je suis malade. Written by Serge Lama on a music composed by Alice Dona, the song became the most emblematic title of the repertoire of Serge Lama who regularly takes it on stage 3.
    History
The song Je suis malade was inspired by a real heartbreak of Serge Lama, the story of a long secret relationship.
In 1969, the singer met Michèle Potier in Chamonix. Love was a certainty, but neither of them was free: he had married Daisy Brun, his press agent, in 1968, and she was married and had a son. They love each other in secret for several years and promise to regain their freedom, but Michèle hesitates and finally flees him and settles in Morocco for professional reasons. Lama is desperate, he wants to put words on his pain without succeeding, until the day he confides in his friend Alice Dona: "this story hurts me, it makes me sick. Back home, at the piano, Alice Dona, composes in a few hours a melody [...], that very quickly, she makes the singer listen. It was a revelation and Serge Lama wrote almost the entire text in one go. He will say later "The 80% of the song I wrote in 20 minutes, it's almost a shame [...] it came out of my heart so much that I [...] immediately felt that this song had something that the others didn't have".
However, nothing is done. His record company Philips does not believe in the song and to impose it Lama threatens to leave if he is refused to record it3. He wins his case and soon Je suis malade is released as a single. Unfortunately, the radio programmers prefer the B side, the lively and cheerful song Les P'tites Femmes de Pigalle which becomes a hit6. At every opportunity, however, Lama sings Je suis malade, on television, on stage [...], recognition will come, not (in this period), through him, but from a cover by Dalida very touched by the subject of the song and whose inspired and desperate interpretation will seduce the public.
After that, Serge Lama's popularity was turned upside down and he definitely became a recognized and popular singer-songwriter4. Many years later, the artist confides: "An LP of Serge Lama at the time it was worth 4000-5000 albums [...] But after Les Ballons rougesNote 1 it is 1 million4."
Recognition came for the creator of Je suis malade, in 1974, when one evening on the stage of the Olympia in Paris, Serge Lama completed the song by interpreting it without a microphone a cappella in front of an audience conquered by a triumph.
Another happiness, the return of Michele, free and together, they give birth to a boy named Frederic in 1981 and marry ten years later8. Michèle died in 2016 at 71 years, victim of a stroke9. Her death gives the song another dimension, Lama who has not given up singing it on stage says: "Every night when this song comes, I know it is an obstacle that must be jumped [...], it usually takes me a minute to recover [...], this song deserves to be given everything".
Words on behalf of the father
Je suis malade is doubly autobiographical for the singer-songwriter who includes in this story of desperate love feelings from his childhood. The anger, the suffering that Serge Lama expresses with the verses "I am sick as when my mother went out in the evening, And that she left me alone with my despair" or "I am like an orphan in a dormitory". These words to the attention of his lover to whom he reproaches his decline, it is in fact to his mother that he addresses them, casting himself in the skin of his father, formerly a singer of operetta in search of success, who, pushed by his wife, gave up his career [...]. This father to whom Lama "lends his voice" when he claims:
"You deprived me of all my songs, You emptied me of all my words, Yet I had talent before your skin.
This period of his childhood, Lama has already evoked it in the song half sweet and half bitter Le temps de la rengaine (in 1968 it opens the album D'aventures en aventures):
"[...] Mama dreamed that she had a real kitchen, While Daddy was barking at the Capucines, It was a nice time that this time [...],
One day daddy sold margarine, So that mommy could sing in her kitchen, It was a hard time that time, I have tears in my eyes when I think of all that".

this song " je suis malade" written in 1973 by Serge Lama its Author and interpreter and Alice Donna its composer is here perfectly interpreted by Lara Fabian. What gives me the most pleasure is to see the surprise in the eyes and the closed face open with a smile. When a song is good and performed well, it's this reaction that comes first.

That line when she says she's like a dead bird and drags that thumb across her throat stands out, as well as that line about clinging to him, you can HEAR the tears in her voice. The whole performance is great, but those are two of my favorite moments if you will... Amazing song, amazing singer AND performer. What makes it even more awesome is how into it she is at the end, despite it being a cover!

I would say that chills are very much important, it suggests rather than just simply listening to the song, you are feeling it and having a physical/emotional reaction and the singer is properly conveying the emotions of the song.

Big big thank you for reacting to Lara's version of Je Suis Malade, particularly that one! It's an old French classic, but Lara made it her own, and in my opinion, this is the best version of that song ever. Btw, l suggest you to check out Caruso by Lara as well. Cheers!

    Hello Danny,
Your band is very good. Thanks for this reaction to a French song so incredible. All person who've feel one time in his/her life what's described have a chance to cry in listening this song. Because never has a song described so well what it feels like to be separated from a person you love and how it eats you every second of your life. So much so that it completely fills you, and, paradoxically, so much does it empty you at the same time.
As this song is taken from a true story, I can imagine the very cruel irony it was for the lyrics author and first performer of this song to actually hear words of his song on the radio, when he still suffered from the lack of the loved one of whom this song was about, a sort of mirror reflection effect in the mirror and which thus multiplies the image to infinity.
What a paradox for him this happiness to hear that his song was broadcast on the radio, then was even masterfully covered (first by Dalida, later and still better by Lara in this video) and at the same time which brought him back to this person whom he still secretly loved and from whom he was separated. . To have also predicted it in the lyrics of the song is absolutely incredible and at the same time the mark of genius.
Fortunately, fairy tales can sometimes be transposed to real life, since Serge Lama found this woman he loved so much ten years later. That they got together. That they had a baby boy and that they lived together until the end of her life.
Serge Lama is old now (78 yrs) and I wish him the more long life it can be. But I already can say that thanks to this song and all this reaction videos across entire World (and so thanks to internet), he's entered in World song History and for that will be never forgotten.
    Amitiés from South France,

    Broken Vow
    Caruso
    You'r not from here
    Je t'aime
Adagio (ella compuso la letra de esta obra de Albinoni)
