MAJOR FAULT FIXED ON MY MK6 FORD ESCORT VAN!

In this weeks video I tackle a job on my Mk6 Escort van that was urgently needing my attention, as the brake light kept illuminating on the dash. After some investigating I found out that the rear O/S wheel cylinder was leaking and therefore I change this along with some other parts for the escort van. I feel every part that I change on this escort van is keeping it on the road for that little bit longer and hopefully away from the scrapyard! After all, you've got to keep the old ones going :)
Seeing as this was my day off, it was only right that I was jam packed, as per usual... This meant I had to fix my sisters car too and funnily enough this had a leaky rear wheel cylinder! I managed to complete this job in the video too but thew recording got cut short slightly as the weather took a turn for the worst.
I hope to keep improving this escort van and I'm thinking about getting the steels powder coated next, along with a set of new tyres. I also want to machine polish the paintwork because I really believe this will come up great and make for a really clean and presentable retro van.

After some consideration I’m going to be replacing the shoes on both vehicles! Thank you for the comments, I should have ordered shoes when I got the brake cylinders. Fear not, they will be changed!

You'll need to change the rear shoes on both cars Mitch. They have soaked up brake fluid and cleaning them will not work as they are porous material. The composition, integrity, safety and effectiveness of the shoes has been permanently compromised.

Mitch that offside rear tyre is a Goodyear GT, it's as old as time itself, get it changed pronto mate

Hi mate. I noticed you using the red pats key to start the car. That key is the one needed to program any new keys. We used to tell customers back in the day not to use them as it's really expensive if you loose or break that key as you have to re-program the entire system
Thank you for noticing I’m using the red key mate! In all honestly I hadn’t realised I was using it as I have both keys on my bunch 👍🏻 I’m going to take your advice and place the red key in the handbook, thank you 😎
I always fit the springs to the shoe then mount the shoes. Then there is no struggling with pliers to fit the springs

When you say she has locking wheel nut you were not joking they were nearly locked up solid, we used to wash the shoes off then burn them off with gas torch because the brake fluid would soak into the shoes and that would help burn it out, good to see you at it Mitch,

There’s a lot of them about still but most are rubbish and not really worth the effort. I want to daily mine as a personal everyday ride …fingers crossed one will turn up 🤞

Hey Mitch, just wanted to say that i love your content, i have watched every video and i also watch the ACA live auctions, always see you in the background throughout those weekend and was super stoked to see you getting interviewed on the last auction weekend ( I could never goto one of those auctions as god only knows what i would end up guying) it's strange but i left school in 1983 and became an apprentice mechanic for a well known Ford dealer that used to me in Bletchley, i was working on all your favorite fords when they were brand new out of the showroom lol, replacing those break shoes will be a wise move mate as you will get problems if you don't, just thought id say hi, keep up the great vids, yes to a day in the life, did you sell the VW camper or is that still on the fleet?
