- This version of Pinocchio fromFaerie Tale Theatre is a wonderful adaptation of Carlo Collodi's timeless classic, about a wooden puppet who is brought to life thanks to a lonely man's desire to become a father.
Paul Reubens (aka Pee-Wee Herman) plays the title role with Carl Reiner as Geppetto, Pinocchio's loving father. Lainie Kazan is a sassy delight as Sophia, the Blue Fairy who grants the gift of life to Pinocchio, and James Coburn is fantastic as the evil Gypsy. Also in the cast are James Belushi and Michael Richards.

Thanks for uploading this. What a brilliant casting choice to have Paul Reubens to play Pinocchio. He is endlessly entertaining. I remember watching this at some point when I was young. I always looked forward to the times I was able to catch Fairytale Theatre. I also watched Pee-wee's Playhouse practically daily. I still think of Pee-wee whenever I eat ice cream and sometimes I make "ice cream soup". Paul Reubens was one of my favorite people ever. Earth is different without the possibility of seeing him in guest appearances or the other projects he still had planned before his death. Months later I'm still trying to come to terms with it. At least he left us with a wealth of hilarious moments.

OMG.....the year was 1989 I was 5 years old. My grandmother bought this for me on VHS and I absolutely loved it. I tried to bring it to school to watch it for show and tell but my teacher called it inappropriate for school because of Reuben's history.

This is one of my favorite episodes, so cute and precious adaptation. Paul Reubens was cast brilliantly and his performance has alot of heart and it shows😇
I remember watching this as a kid and tried to search for it years ago. Funny that one of the only things I remember was Pinocchio sort of resembling a skinny peewee Herman and he turned out to be the same actor all along

I think Paul Reubens was ideal for Pinocchio. The fake Italian accents were injuring me, but it's always a treat to see the great actors who pop up in these.

Carl Reiner and Paul Reubens had some history together before this, I believe he featured him on a new comedians special. I love their chemistry together! As a kid my dad used to put this on all the time on VHS, but when I got older I truly appreciated it (ie, I don't think this show is really for "kids," it's more for teens and up!). RIP to all that have passed that appeared in this. I'm still not over Paul's passing, as I became a huge fan of his in my formative years. What a great piece of media, though. Thanks for the upload! :)

Getting Pee-Wee Herman (Paul Reubens) to play Pinocchio was a great idea. He totally nails it! He was hilarious! Plus I really like Shelley Duvall's Faerie Tale Theatre. This is the third episode that I've seen. Shelley Duvall is very beautiful. It's a doggone shame that she went down hill. I feel so sorry for her. She was a great actress.

I can't believe I didn't know this existed lol. I'm a huge fan of Pee-Wee, so this makes me smile. I may have seen an episode or two of this series, I have very faint memories of The Frog Prince episode with Robin Williams, but i couldn't have been more than 4 (Dad would used to borrow random kids movies from the library for me, so that's probably where I'd see it). Haha, a friend of mine sent me a link to this, knowing I'm a Pee-Wee fan. I might check out a few more of the series.

I so love this movie
Genuinely a film I can watch over and over again, and see new things I haven’t seen before. The actors are amazing, and I can get something out of this that I can’t with other versions, with an actually intelligent and responsible Gepetto, for the most part, and people acting realistically freaked out to the fact that a flipping wooden puppet is just walking around. Still better than the Fruity version, of course. Anything is. But at least that film has led people to appreciate more the story of Pinocchio, and all the amazing versions that deserve more attention.
