- I had to collect our Goddaughter from France an ended up driving 1,400 miles in 36 hours in an MS-RT Custom Transit. Such an epic trip I thought you would like to come along for the ride.

I’ve crossed Europe many times in my VW T5 transporter Kombi . Often loaded 4 up, with snowboard gear. It’s still the best road trip vehicle I’ve ever owned. The high driving position and upright seating somehow makes it possible to cover great distance. For family trips it makes a life changing companion, carrying bikes, surfboards, paddle boards, golf clubs etc. Now 18 years old, it’s still part of the family and holds so many memories in its ‘patina’.
Biggest issue that I have with the Transit MSRT is the price! It is meant to be a Commercial Vehicle, not a tarts handbag that costs more than a Mustang...!!
Made me chuckle your comment Mika, have to agree with you though , way too much money, unless you have deep pockets of course.
@coffeeguy6673 Thanks for appreciating my sense of humour. 👍
@@mikadavies660 more than welcome mika, looks like we have a similar sense of humour 🤗😆👍
@coffeeguy6673 Looks like Petrolped also totally agreed, as I got a big laugh emoji a heart and a thumbs up.... Nice to see people do remember what a Tart's Handbag is... 😂😂
I agree but at the same time it’s a luxury and abit of a statement when pulling up to site and if your in a van 24/7 might as well have it a gooden
Peter….a epic trip and these days, it just might kill me…I used to do 720 miles in 12 hours quite often but that was a few years ago now! Even I have wondered about a loaded Transit because choosing a car now is mighty difficult. The Transit is quite “classless” now and so useful. We have a customisation dealer only two miles away….maybe they need a visit!!! Stay safe..😀😀😀😀Richard
Brilliant! Really enjoyed the vid, didn't think I would at the beginning.
I always enjoy a road trip video. Mahalo for sharing yours with us!
Really enjoying your videos - Thank you
Thanks for watching!
Quite a road trip you did, the Van looks the business and perfect for your trip. I love a good road trip. I recently did 629 miles (1018 KM) in one day going from Bremen in Germany, to Spa-Francorchamps circuit then through France and back to Cambridge in UK in a Clio RS, it took 18 Hours. Thanks for the tip about the old circuit, will go there next time. All the best.
I have done the same distance in the same timescale. I drove from Glasgow to Campbeltown to pick up an Isuzu Trooper with a large trailer and then drove to the Port at Dover to collect some Generators from a ship for refurbishment and then drove back to Campbeltown a to total of 1374 miles without sleeping other than a lie down in the back of the truck with a jumper for a pillow as the hotel in Dover was full. That Isuzu was a big comfortable place to be and I am glad I wasn't footing the bill for fuel but for style points it was no competition for that Transit,
I have driven Thousands of miles in Vans and have always loved a Transit, and this looks like it is a good one as well... I must have driven that section of Autoroute over 100 times, and used that Shell station quite a few times as well.... People say the M40 is boring, they should try that one...Miles and Miles of NOTHING..... Great vid PP... :-))
@@altern8tive I tend to agree, but that section from Calais to Reims is a bit dull..... Unless you like mile after mile of fields... :-))
Enjoyable video. One of my favourite photos is of my old XKR parked under the Jaguar signs at old Reims. Epic place. We drive down to the Pyrenees end of the south of France and one of the new Discovery 5's with the inline 6 engine is sublime for that length of journey. Loads of space, and almost 40mpg even at 130km/h for most of the way. Flexiplus worth its weight in gold when you get to Calais after a long drive and there are problems on Le Shuttle, you can just get straight on. Gets rid of the stress of trying to get there for a fixed slot too.
Brilliant vlog guys.
Back in the 1980’s my dad worked for Burma Oil in Poland at a plant being built by Laings workers from all parts of UK, every month a fleet of old knackered transit vans did the run back to the UK loaded up with men & tools, well before the tunnel existed! Circa 1200 kms to Calais then the UK run to drop workers off. Like Brian Hanrahan said during the Falklands War, my Dad counted them out and counted them back a week later! Now they were bullet proof vans! Or at least Brit labourer proof. When I went over to work with Dad it was when the ruskies moved in, then they were just counted out….they never went back. 😢
Great video, Pete!
If I had the money I'd rather have the van than something like a Range Rover, more of a SUV!
What a road/van trip. Epic.
Great road trip. Reims is nice. We were there last summer. Watching a light show on the cathedral. Loved the speakers outside the van.
Great vehicle, we had one of these as my wife’s WAV. Only problem it was a bit bouncy in the back for the wheelchair, great ride in the front! We were all-ways stopped at customs!
That’s one great Transit to do a road trip in and the colour is amazing
These vans look epic and would be cool to have here in the states. Great video Sir Pete!
They are!
And I thought North Wales and back in a day was good going!! That Transit looks epic and those seats do look comfy and evidently they were..
La Tania is my fav resort - nice and chill!
Having driven them down through the years the transit has always been my favourite van to drive and I have to say the RT is a cool looking machine tho' I nearly collapsed when I saw the price!
Another different take on a motor review. In my much younger days I drove lots of vans. Always very comfortable for the driver. Great driving position. Cheers
Really awesome van. I've ordered the Transit Custom Sport
The MSRT looks pretty comfy way to travel across Europe !
That blue is even better than the orange...looks fab
I have loved both your road trips in a msrt transit I am getting a transit custom soon this proves I am making a great choice
Really enjoy the road trip videos on the channel just great 👌👌
👍
Once drove twice from Antwerp to Porto and back in one week. Transits are great as is this video. Cheers!
Many thanks!
Interesting to see that is the same Transit MS-RT Schmee 150 had in his garage for a period of time appearing on his Schmuseum channel
Hats off to you driving that
distance in a relatively short time, and doing most of the driving. I would have been on my knees. Nice vehicle for a European jaunt
Great idea toll tags, weren’t available when we used to go!
Love the Transit, look's really good
As a self employed coffee machine engineer, I'm currently looking for a van to replace my Ford Mundano estate. Trouble is, even used vans are so expensive at the mo. Would absolutely love one of these MS-RT Transits , looks the business , unfortunately, £60k is way out of my price range ! Noticed the pickled onion monster munch, nom nom, love those 😋...cheers, Daz, Leicester.
Gotta love Monster Munch 👌
Thanks - enjoyed that one. For info, good Leclerc just off the autoroute south of Reims - a bit cheaper for fuel. Appreciate you are probably on freebies but Flexiplus really not worth it unless you can eat your bodyweight in the lounge. I do the Ashford McDs - loo+ takeout - then eat whilst waiting to board.
I chipped my transit custom got loads more torque now much more fun ! !
Ooo! Pickled Onion Monster Munch, my favourite!
For a road trip video thing I actually enjoyed this. Considering a van was not maybe the ideal vehicle for the job, it looks like it worked really well and did the job fantastically apart from the fuel consumption; oh well.
Great to hear 👍
That was a marathon trip.Pity about the weather on the way back. But at least you had the Monster Munch.
I like the sound box. Suits it.
Yes it’s a wicked transit!
WoW, so cool to see the old Reims buildings etc. (even though the subtitles were calling it reams)( oh, and the subtitles said you had a wii, and not a wee)(which is good as the word wee might offend some people, so it's lucky no one will be commenting on your wee) Hmm, maybe MS-RT will do a high performance diesel engine some time and you could have a run out in in that! Wee can't wait!
Oh and I was just n your neck of the woods earlier this pm. My Astra felt a bit funny, so I pulled in to Frosts of Chich, to replace my air filter. It seems to have done the trick, so far. 👍😁
This couldnt be better timed as i work out if i trade in my car for a van!! maybe not a MSRT but a transit!
Evening All, the Coach was a bit of a tight squeeze. 👍🤏🤏
Have to say having driven ttransits to Germany many times, they are supprisingly good at mile munching. It does look like a insect magnet, is it the colour or your speed!!
Hi, totally agree Pickled Onion Monster Munch just the best….😊
👍
Van looks great but shocking build quality
Great video guys and girls
I ran out of petrol on the French autoroute a few weeks ago. 2km to the next services 😂. It’s fun having some jeopardy!
😮
Pickled Onion Monster Munch. Oh I bet the cab smelt delightful when the young ladies boarded.
The wav was a custom transit for wheelchairs, great vehicles.
Road trips are my favourite kind of holiday. You never know what's round the next corner or when you'll miss your next fuel stop😁..........Just think yourself lucky you weren't in an EV Pete, that would have taken a bit longer than 36 hours to cover that sort of mileage at those speeds.
Can't beat a roadtrip, especially in Europe on proper roads not British dirt tracks! Awesome Transit, but wow, the mpg is a little light! 😮😅 Looks absolutely incredible though. Coach driver did well in the chunnel! 🤓 Pickled Onion Monster Munch 🤪
I'm with Anthony on the awful racket coming from the back.
Hello pal, range anxiety at it’s best lol 👍👍👍🇬🇧
That windscreen is full of dead flies!
You mentioned flexi plus, would you care to mention the cost which has shot up since I last used it several years ago
About £450 return 😬
Having driven a coach onto the eurotunnel, trust me it’s tight!! 🙈 A Gnat’s do dahs clearance!! 😅
Ouch 😣
And blue badge were all-ways loaded first - some perks!
👍
Ha ha golf buggy, we rolled one!
What colour blue is this?
Landrover Defender or Disco pricing!
That's not a proper breakfast...not this side of the Chunnel, Pedro
First!! Evening all! Hope everyone is doing well and are having a nice Bank Holiday Monday.
Hi Peds
Flamin' hot for me.
👊
To be perfectly honest, I’d far rather have one of those than a Mustang!
Awesome video and awesome van. Love them and how much transits have come on.
I’ve just done 1500 miles in 72 hours in a LWB hi top Transit, and yes it pretty much did break me🤣
Tell Customs your vehicle is a rental. No search 😊 Do like driving a Van tho 👍🏾
Good one!
The cost of a paint job on a Mclaren F1 race truck would make your eyes water!!! And I have had to drive them onto the train..... with the same gap as you had.... scratches were not allowed!!! Not my favourite part of the job...... :-)))
i know people love'em whether it fords or vw's... but what gets me is the price of these things...essentially bread vans with windows...but hey ho ...if people will pay it ...whatcha gonna do?...ps the older digital cars/vans fuel gauges go to 4 dashes when you get to zero...and you stil have some left... worked in the motor trades donkies ago....only ran out once...
What happened to the Caterham vid?
What Caterham vid ? 🤷♂️
Maybe I dreamt about it 😂
I'm nz they say you can get 850 km from a tank in a transit 😊
yay
Hello guys
Range anxiety, eh
Another cracker Pete fair play some millage that..!!, there a smart looking Van though must say very nice 👍
It’s like driving an EV!
I get 47 yo the gallon in my custom on long journeys
But ..... could you have done that in an electric van ?
Nope 👎
All the driver keeps telling everyone he has Porsche and the passenger just sits their with a grin on his face and does not say much
😂
Stop stressing about fuel, it will have at least 30 miles left even when it says it’s empty
