thank you for your honesty .... i first visited vegas in 1977 ... it was quite a nice (and VERY AFFORDABLE!) town back then... in fact southwest airlines sold a book of 10 flight coupons to vegas for $290.00! and I lived in the Los Angeles area (20 minutes from LAX) so it was very easy to hop on a plane (NO FRISKING! NO METAL DETECTORS!) and NICE hotels were a BARGAIN! .... and this was a time when you bought your (cheap) tickets for a show and there were doormen that escorted you to your seat so it was very easy to tip the guy $10 bucks (that would be at least $30 today) and he'd put you up front! ... You could also walk across (carefully) the stip (NO BARRIERS!) ... Man ... Las Vegas USED to be GREAT!

😅...don't leave out: #16. Low school test scores. CCSD is not known for educating students for colleges and/or universities. High schools graduated students just so they could work minimum wage jobs in the casinos; and, #17. Comparatively Low Wages - that's why native Las Vegans can't compete in the housing market with out of state buyers who pay cash or have huge down payments. Current home prices mean average monthly payments are ranging from $2400-$3000 per month. Home prices have more than doubled since 2020 while local wages have not. It is not uncommon for an employer to offer minimum wage (+/-) plus Tips as a beginning salary! Tips (from the public) are built into the salary structure for many, many jobs. There are some regular skill wage jobs that -still- only offer $12-$15 per hour to start. In some fields, it is very, very rare to earn $20+ per hour.

I have just relocated to Las Vegas March 2024, and I have to say you are right on-point with your 14 reasons as to why a person may want to consider Not moving here. I have been looking to purchase a condo in and around the Summerlin area, and I have to say not only are the condos overpriced, but it is a fact that people selling their properties Do Not renovate them. They are selling garbage and listing them for top dollar. Why? Because Las Vegas has very little inventory. Even when the inventory was at 11,000 homes on the multiple listing seller’s did upgrade their properties before listing them for sale. Most condos in the 350k range are total gut-jobs. Another reason why I would never pay top dollar for total pieces of junk. I am not from California where I sold my property for 1.5 million, and think I am getting a bargain in this town at 500k only to renovate for another 75k and still have plenty of money left over. Thanks for the great video!

The nice weather happens during the ‘shorter’ days. I’d rather have the nicer weather days during the longest days… like in the rest of the country. And my summer nights. -Just something to consider. It’s a fun place to visit for a few days, Uber around, eat the food see the sights, catch a few shows…and then take off.

Hi there! I lived in Vegas for 2 years or so & I loved it! Although that was in the early 2000s, It seemed clean & there was always "something to do". The prices were low (Housing, food etc) I live/stayed in a Motel on Boulder Hwy and was paying $200 a week for a room WITH a full kitchen & bathroom. That was great back then, so I can imagine what it is now. BUT to compare with California (Where i live now) where motels are nearly $100 a night WITHOUT anything but a room and a bathroom, no kitchen or anything I always look back and think "should I have stayed there in Vegas?" Of course i was much younger then too. In 2000, i was 34 years old, im now 58, so Im not so much interested in "Nightlife" anymore. I'm also disabled now and on SSI. I ask myself "could I survive in vegas in my situation?" Probably not! So it can go both ways, If you're young, it would probably be great, but once you're in your 40s or 50s, it would probably get boring. Don't get me wrong, I loved living in vegas! But was having a hard time surviving there because i had lost my job at the time (Which is why i was staying in the motel with my severance pay). I had an "offer" to move to california (For private reasons) so I did, but sometimes i wish i hadn't. I now live in a small area that is literally in the middle of nowhere in northern calif where there's literally nothing. I took my third trip to Las Vegas September of 23 and I can attest to the heat part, during the day temperatures reached 103 and I couldn't wait for night time to hit but when it did it dropped to 75° and was still very hot, it didn't even have to be humid heat to start sweating either.

There are good off strip hotels and casinos that have good and reasonable food and drink prices. Local residents can take advantage of them. One advantage living in Las Vegas is you don't have to pay state taxes. As it was mention in the video .They get you in other ways

You’re spot on. Been there lived there for a couple years. I was 29 now 53 I have to say I hated it after a while it didn’t feel the same when I moved there. I do like it again finally but wouldn’t live there full time, maybe a second house. I believe I’m older and wiser being 29 and moving to Vegas wasn’t the best decision Any way love that you’ve told the truth about things people should know before they go. Kudos
    love your video

Now if you're down in a place like Tennessee I had to go to Once in the summer and it was 98° with 100% humidity at night that is hot sounds like you're breathing hot water air but at least in Vegas because it's dry it's not hot like I experienced in Tennessee with the humidity that was insane

I have lived in Laa Vegas since 1993. Las Vegas has turned into a shithole. If you have money, Las Vegas is great. If you have little or none, you are a ghost. Las Vegas is geared to those that have money. Our politicans bend over backwards to accomodate the gaming industry and citizens are ignored. Formula 1 is a classic example. Life was miserable for locals, especially those working on or near the Strip, during F1. Now gaming wants to bring a baseball team and a new stadium on the most congested intersection in Las Vegas, High crime rates. Driving the roads of Las Vegas is extremely stressful due to the lack of law enfrocement. People mistakenly mention Nevada's no personal income tax. In the video, Olga mentions that we are nickel and dimed with high registration fees, car insurance, gasoline taxes. We drove to Laughlin last week and gas prices were almost $1.00 a gallon cheaper in Arizona). Nevada might not have a personal income tax, but Nevada finds other ways to collect.

I lived there for 18 years, and I saw the same places that were new in the early 90s and, by early 2010s, saw the deterioration due to building the bigger and brighter. What they became instant slums. Office buildings that looked very upscale became boarded up and graffiti. This is a place where it takes two years to deteriorate, whereas most cities it would take decades. The affordable places to eat a three dollar steak dinner shot up to $8. This is not a place where you can live paycheck to paycheck or just make a living on one. The city that seemed to have a lot of promises in the 90s had become a dystopia. Moving there back then was like moving to Detroit in the 50s.If it has changed, it isn't for the better. One of the many complaints was that it lacks culture, and I'm sure it's still that way

I'm former Las Vegas resident. It's very to get to your job . If your working in one of the big hotels on the strip. Due to traffic and tourism. I didn't own a vehicle while while l lived in Las Vegas . Sometimes it's very hard to get home on the public bus on the strip . Because the buses are over full with people. Sometimes l.will have three public buses pass me by because they where over full. In order to get a good paying job at one of the big hotels on the strip or Fremont Street. You had to join the union . Called culinary workers union. Pay $100 per month for union dues. What l did t appreciate was how they will boycott and demonstrate with the big hotels owners that wouldn't sign with . Business doesn't have the right to force themselves on another business .

Let them know that 5 mos out of the year (not 3 mos) it will be hot. Also that most people hide in their houses and are generally not social. If you buy a home you will have renters in your neighborhood even if you live in an HOA. When they move here, if they dont have friends or family here, they will feel very isolated because neighbors do not get close generally to other neighbors unless you live here for over 10 years. Also if you have dogs, your neighbors will often have a tendency to call animal control on your dogs for barking inside or outside the home. (Yes!) Lots of karens out here. Homeless, not too bad in various parts of Vegas. Comparatively better than california! Limied number of jobs. Yes! Dont move here unless you have a job lined up. My husband and I moved here a few years back and after him sending out hundreds of resumes for 8 months, he finally got hired. It was really scary. I have never been that scared in my life to the point where we were considering getting food from a shelter to eat! And we own a home! Please, please dont move here unless you have a job lined up folks!

my first trip to vegas was labor day weekend in 2003..the temp was 113 outside...hard for me to handle that being from the east coast....after that trip vegas hooked me in and i went there on vacation every 6 months for 16 years...every trip i was getting either free hotel rooms or $29 a night rooms on the strip...was like that up until 2015 when those same rooms were now $79 a night then 2 years later the resort fees kicked in...i have seen over the years how expensive everything has gotten from food/alcohol to cab rides to just about everything...my last trip before covid hit was nov 2019...then i went back in oct 2022 and have not been back since...way too expensive now

Along with the summer heat; the second weather issue here is the wind! It can be very annoying especially in spring or less frequent during monsoon season. Springtime winds can last for days and days and days. Schools have always been bad and that is by design. The resort industry needs a lot of relatively young workers for low skilled low wage jobs. Homeless issues will never go a way unfortunately. Again, I can't over emphasize the winds in the springtime. You do have to lower your expectations here as it is difficult to find good employees as a lot simply can't read or do simple math.
