Rinya Nakamura is a Japanese mixed martial artist and former freestyle wrestler who currently competes in the bantamweight division. Competing at 61 kilograms, Nakamura became the 2017 U23 World Champion during his wrestling career, before retiring at age 25 to pursue mixed martial arts.

Terrific video🏆 Nakamura is a legit fighter. He lost to the very best: Olympic gold medalists and world champions. His chain wrestling will give me a competitive advantage in the UFC. Knockout power too.

In MMA, you don't always need to be the best wrestler; in fact, in today's very evolved MMA, hardly any D1 or equivalent is a champ. You simply need to be very good in wrestling; but if your BJJ, Muay Thai/Kickboxing, take down defense, and general athleticism are among the very top 5... your shot at a belt is way better than a D1 guy whose focus is maintain to maintain that next level wrestling...

The most champions in history have a wrestling base and every champion has a good wrestling and uses it a good amount in their fights: pantoja, suga(but before it was aljo and it’s about to be Merab after he beats Suga), ilia wrestled josh emmet to neglect the power from Emmett, Islam is known for his wrestling, edwards has good wrestling and even before him usman was taking everyone down, ddp beat Strickland purely off ending the rounds with takedowns, pereira is definitely the outlier, and aspinall has elite wrestling and bjj

Unlike Tatsuro Tiara, who is mainly a superb BJJ guy --- who is at best average in the stand-up and average in wrestling ---- Rinya is actually a legit elite wrestler who also is approaching elite in his stand-up; more importantly, he fights more like Khamzat, Shavkat, and others who always go for the kill....because he realizes, at this stage among peers he's still fighting, he's at least as good as they are in the stand-up and he's way superior to them in both wrestling and BJJ.... very calculated & intelligent approach early on in his MMA career...
