- On July 27, 2021, Mohawk, Adirondack & Northern brought 10 pole cars out of Utica NY bound for a customer in the "boonies," Boonville NY more precisely. The cars will be loaded with new telephone poles for transshipment.
We first see a hi-rail come off the rails in Holland Patent, NY, 12 miles from Utica, to clear the way for the MA&N freight. The train is then observed passing by the former New York Central passenger station, now an office for the village.
The following scene shows the train passing Mapledale Rd, Trenton, 15 miles out of Utica.
Next, the train is observed passing through Remsen from the vantage point of the observation platform at Remsen's Depot.
The final scene shows the 10-car freight nearing Bethel Road, Steuben, approximately 27 miles from Utica.
The customer, 3B Timber, is just past MP 33.
An engine was positioned in the rear of the train to simplify switching once in Boonville.
I love that passenger car with the people silhouettes. So, having HO scale passengers cars with silhouettes is prototypical!😃
That is so cool. I love trains. I once took a train from Utica to Orlando, no problem. The trip back, though, there was a hurricane. Ended up having to use Conrails tracks, the arms at the stops had to be moved manually, and there were so many delays. I loved it, though. I really want to take an Amtrak cross country some day.
My sister and I took a round trip Utica-Orlando trip in 1986 or so. She still complains (mostly good-naturedly) about that trip to this day; she’ll never be a train fan, lol. It was a good trip though. If you do take a western Amtrak trip one day, my recommendation would be the California Zephyr, great scenery west of Denver.
I, too, love the people silhouettes painted on the coach windors. It reminds me of my old American Flyer passenger cars. Cool.
Great to see the 3 engines on the move and out of the yard in Utica, thanks for the great catch as always!!! 👍
Funny how everything seems to have been done so wrong going on forever and now everything is being done just right.
Just glad to be alive to finally see this.
Great post.
Excellent video I enjoyed watching it.👍😀😀😀😀😀🚂🇬🇧
The part taken at Bethel Rd. was right at the dairy farm where my mother grew up 100 years ago. She rode the train from there to high school in Remsen.
That’s really interesting! Thanks for commenting.
Amazing catches!
Love the trip to Boonville vids along the tracks. Right about 2:58 when the camera does the panning, it looks like an HO model railroad against a photo realistic backdrop.
Great camera work in this video, and beautiful scenery in that region.
Another amazing video!!!
Another wonderful day! To get this video!! HP ! Over fox rd! Mapldale Rd! Remsen city!!! And I think the last shot was in stuben?
Hey WW! Yes final scene was Bethel Rd, Steuben.
Superb video, thanks.
Nice video.. for some reason I like "wood"... maybe it's because you can see the commodity. Empty as in your video here..or loaded for a destination. Great stuff. Thanks for sharing.
very beautiful video
Very nice video!!
O.K, I love all your vids but there's something really cool in this one. In the beginning as that engine is coming right towards the cam the switch is already thrown and the train breaks left. We don't often see that in vids, at least I don't recall seeing it often. I like that. The old signal at the 5:34 mark is excellent!!!
Love the Alcos. And to think they haven't been made in over fifty two years!
Love this ! Thank you for sharing….
Great video from Peterboro NY.
Great video and catch!
Very good video
Still using the Ex-BC Rail locomotive.
Hello!
Very nice videoooooooooooo!
Greetings from
They must have a heavy train to take back the other way.
Is it possible to put these on a cd? Entirely MA&N? Love to see a MA&N ho scale railroad, maybe an article in Model Railroad Planning?
1:34 This M420 diesel locomotive looks like it is taken from the movie Atomic Train 1999
