I don’t know if anyone else has mentioned this, but his live performance, “How to Be Me (live) also with Chinchilla is really powerful. It’s a beautiful song, but gut-wrenching at the same time. And talk about harmonies. That song is something else entirely.
I concur 😎

I've heard hundreds of reactors critiquing music on CZcams but I must say that your analysis and thoughts on music really are second to none. Keep up the great work mate
Top tier
Blowing my mind, and I'm not even halfway through. 😆
I am 74, so definitely not of Ren's generation. I never had children or interacted on that level with youth. But i have worked in a creative enviorment with all ages in the family/community of Renaissance festivals for 42 years. Ren speaks/connects with me on that universal level that you refer to. I know most of us, as fans recognize that quality about him and us in relationship to him. Drives me nuts when some people try to pigeonhole this into a parasocial, cult like following (though we do joke about it). Ren really IS different. And though i know he is still learning to navigate this, i can see it clearly. I love who and how he is AND I love how we are when we are with him.
He's a really good egg!😂
Wow what a detailed analysis of what makes REN great and makes us connect so deeply with him and his music ❤
Having absolutely nothing in common with you, with being a 42-year-old woman, with 3 children(14/19/21), and a completely different career (Chef)... I couldn't agree with you more!
Beautifully put.
"It' such a perfect day, take it just in case". The simplicity in the lines with which Ren completely overwhelms you is absolutely stunning. Not a single word too much.
Totally agree with you. I would love to see that remixed/juxtaposed with Lou Reed's Perfect Day ...
Among all his talents for me this is Ren's biggest. He is able to tell simple truths in a harsh and yet beautifully poetic and compelling way.
@@JasonJPParker This right here.
He is the voice of an era, not just a generation.
Our generation raised that generation. As a 57 yr old female Ren fan, I find that statement spot on. I concur!!
I am 53 also a Ren fan and I also concur!!
“Wow, fucking wow.”
Ayuh, that was my first reaction to this song too. Ren is special in many ways. His connection with Chinchilla is on another level also.
Am I the only one around here that listens to these reactions and wishes Ren has seen them?! LOVE your Ren reactions. 🎶🤘🏼
I should watch some other! 😝
That is one of the greatest breakdowns I’ve ever heard as to why Ren’s music resonated with us so much. It’s like he sets off these sensors like a lyrical, musical bat signal. Anyway, kudos to you Wyldeside/Eric! 💐
‘… lyrical, musical bat signal.’ Loved that!
@@kazpwright thanks, I try 😂
"If you can't understand why his connections are so visceral, I don't think you even know you are alive." Well said, sir, well said. 🧡💛🧡
Placing my vote for you to react to "How to be me (live)".
I concur or Humble Ren with Eden. Great song
@@Avellan20I concur to both these suggestions
I just don't understand how Ren isn't getting any radio play in the US, even after Ren's album "Sick Boi" hit #1 on the Official UK Album Charts, even beating out Drake. Ren has also cracked into 5 of America's Billboard charts. Here's a quote from Billboard about Ren's opening week on the charts:🤩
"The Welsh musician, from the Isle of Anglesey, lands on Billboard’s charts for the first time with his new studio album, Sick Boi. The album released Oct. 13 and debuts at #137 on the Billboard 200 with 9,000 equivalent album units earned in its opening week. It also starts at #2 on Heatseekers Albums chart, #11 on Top Current Album Sales and #13 on Top Album Sales. The set also helps him reach #4 on the Emerging Artists chart."🔥🔥
What else does Ren need to do to get the recognition he deserves & get some radio air time?🤔
Yeah, fucking wow is the right word. I cry every time, EVERY time I listen to this song.
Great reaction. I like that you say that raw is one of his instruments because it really gives these kind of videoperformances a totally different tone compared to a studio recording performed by lip-synking artists. Ren is somethng else. I have never before in my 70 + years found an artist so interesting. I am extremely impressed by his intelligence and understanding
I concur. ☮️❤️😎
@@terrieb13 🤣.... Not again.

Check out some of Chinchilla's solo stuff definitely gonna blow up. Elements, fingers, Cut you off, and Little Girl Gone!!!!

They feel venerable. They want to be happy, but they know it's fleeting. When things are going to well, they worry how bad it will get when it ends.
I think Ren IS the voice of a generation... but it is amazing how many of the comments are "I'm a 70 year old man and I haven't connected like this with a new artist since 1971..."
WOW! What a great reaction video to Chalk Outlines..... You nailed it...... Thank you for your beautiful words....
You are one of the best reactors hands down. Fantastic reaction. Thanks!! 🙌
U will never hear another performance like that. They way they pulled this off is so special that it can’t be replicated.
They have How to be me Live together and that matches this which is insane as you think how is it possible.
Charlie is a Beauty 😻 I Love your reactions because you clearly Love Music and have a great knowledge of Music, plus your voice is so soothing 😁 and you get Ren, you will be blown away by Money Game Part 3 🤯
I actually did a video on that song! Recently, so it should be in the carousel of videos on my main page.
Cheers,
Eric

@@guitarmuscle6968 No worries! I take the hit on that. If I were better at this I would organize playlists!

F'g wow is justifiably probably the most common rx to almost any Ren
Chinchilla has some amazing solo songs as well. She's well worth your time. "Little Girl Gone", official video, would be right up your alley.
I think you nailed the Ren dynamic better than anyone out there I am 66 years young myself and completely relate to your reaction!
Hi Charlie! ❤ He's gorgeous.
Each time I listen to this I am astonished that it wasn't a worldwide No.1. Their other collaboration, How to be Me (live) is equally powerful. Moreso if anything. Beautiful but bittersweet.
There’s a phrase - the more specific you are, the more universal it becomes.
Ren and the people that surround him are incredible.
Another great reaction! You should give seven sins a look! It’s off his new album, there’s no video to it, but the song is awesome!
Yes this.
Amazing to hear Jane’s Addiction from you; god that album was amazing. And, like Ren, true artists.
Chalk Outlines is a joint project between Ren and Chinchilla, they co-wrote the song together. Ren and Chinchilla announced this on the song's release and have subsequently sought to confirm this a number of times. Eric's thoughts expressed about the song's writing in the reaction apply equally to both artists. The reason for raising this point is it's often missed in blind reactions as the by their nature the reactors don't research a song prior to recording the reaction. However, in some comments to these reactions (not by the reactors) there has been an undercurrent of misogyny that seeks to actively downplay Chinchilla's role in their joint projects. So let's give kudos to both of the artists for having produced such a beautiful, poetic and meaningful song.
I totally agree @AllRandomOutcomes. I'm here because I love both of these fantastic artists. I applaud Chinchilla for her talents and for her efforts in calling out against the misogyny in this world.
I love that you aren't afraid to say how special Ren is; your reactions to his songs are always among my favorites. Thank you.
Edited to add: I didn't see the Tales of Jenny and Screech (full) among your reactions. It will impress you as much as Hi Ren, I believe.
I'm so proud Ren popped the #1 album in the UK charts. His work is ethereal. Thank you, Eric
the production on the original version is worth checking out on the side
Ren Is Music!!!
I'm subbing purely from you suggesting Three Days. It's such an amazing piece of unexpected beauty, and been a mainstay for decades for me. So much of Ren's work reminds me of the way Ren captures the unexpected across all his music. He has such a deep love of all music and like some magical magpie alchemist conveys it in his art. This Gen-X lady is very much in awe
Just when I thought your reactions couldn't get better... cat!
Fantastic reaction..im also a gen x and i think the reason we weren't medicated like the younger generation is because we were raised to not talk about how we felt , just to keep it bottled inside..Ren for me lets me know it's okay to open that bottle. That were not alone. I love the analogy of the lava lamp he is truly the warm light
O wow, thank you ! Love Ren x Chinchilla so much ! It touches my soul...❤
You have such a knack for finding the best words to capture the essence of a song and music in general. Visceral is such a great word for Ren's performances. As soon as you said it, I thought YES, THAT! That's what that raw feeling is! The lava lamp analogy was great too. Making sense of feelings with words is such an underrated skill in the fast paced, soundbite-y world of "content creation." I really enjoy your analysis so much.
I believe I’ve heard this song 100 times by now!! It’s so beautiful and I love how the video was shot! Chinchilla is always amazing as well!!
Just wow, every time!!!
Finally! Way too long time between Ren reactions 😜
I hope Ren comes across this reaction and hears what you have to say about his work, because it's one of the best descriptions of how he relates to his listeners that I've ever heard. I'm also glad you mentioned Jane's Addiction's Three Days. Like Ren, JA also defied genre labels, to the point where I always thought of them as "art rock." And I would say the same about Ren, who paints beautiful, haunting, painful, scary pictures like a visual artist wielding a guitar and a voice instead of a brush. Speaking of Jane's Addiction, Ren's song Heretic--one of my favorites by him--comes fairly close to a JA sonic and emotional experience (to my ears, anyway). Thanks for the great breakdown!
It was a really pleasure to listen to your deep thoughts, excellent reaction my friend. Please do another masterpiece by Ren: The tale of Jenny and Screetch, all together, you won't regret it!! 🤘🏼🎶
Love your observations of Ren's music - you see and understand so much of not just the music but the interaction between the listener and the artist. Really appreciate getting to hear your insights.
I love that you actually “GET” it I’ve seen some reactions that it’s gone completely over their heads & give a superficial critique! Which I can’t stand! Great Reaction & opinion 💗
You have talked every reason that I think Ren is loved and why people support and love his music, philosophy and just just genuine humanity. Great reaction. Thank you. 😘
Your cat is charming. A really lovely and full reaction - more of a 'response' actually.☮
Great reaction. Thank you. This is one of my favourite Ren tracks. So beatiful and sad. And true.
Thank goodness you finally got to this one. ❤
I'm gonna suggest Heretic as a Ren track to put on your radar. It's another piece of his autobiographical material and is a little different in genre than the others you've done so far. It's a studio recording so it shows off his production talents, and has an animated video.
I concur!
What a wonderful reaction 😊 Thank you!
Ren.. Ready for You (Visulizer!)
I concur,
Bravo. Great analysis of Ren and his music.
Fantastic analysis! The lava lamp analogy, discussing generations, all the layers, harmonies. Great insight! So glad you revisited Ren. Hope to see more soon!
Absolutely perfect analysis and breakdown of Rens Genius, he is a true student of ALL music and has at least 1 song that will connect with any single person 💜 i really think youd like some of his slightly older tracks, Heretic, Ready for you, Dominoes and Humble are just a few I'd suggest 💜
I say that all the time… hey fellow GenX’r, we raised these people 😂 This is such a beautiful song and I’ve been obsessed with it. Love Ren and Chinchilla!
Brilliant reaction video. I love the analogy of the lava lamp, I totally understood what you meant. And as for Ren and Chinchilla, I agree. They both perform like their lives depend on it. And that sincerity shines.
I absolutely love your reactions. You nailed it on why Ren's music resonates with us so much.
I loved this reaction and review. thank you
Thanks Eric for your depth and perspective on #REN and Chinchilla. Like Amanda I would also highly recommend the live outdoor version of “How to be me” by Ren and Chinchilla ❤
“Wow… Fuxking wow!…..” anything more to add. Like Ren, you are a gem Eric. And your reactions to his songs, or any song in general, are second to none. And I am here for all of them. Keep up the good work! Much love from Johan Fonteyn - The Netherlands!
I agree that we (Gen X) have a great deal to learn from the generations that follow us.
Ren's songwriting is so inspiring to me!
I have been missing on your Ren reactions. I'm sub'd but don't get your stuff in my feed (love YT). But from the very first reaction I watched it was clear that you thought this guy was special. Listened to this one to the end and loved every bit of it. When I try and share Ren music with somebody, I don't think I'm trying to share his music. I'm trying to share the experience it gives me and sometimes I find it frustrating that people don't respond the way I expect them to (even though I know it's silly to take it personally). What I would love is for you to do an interview/chat with Ren. I think it would be amaaaazing. Not sure if that's your thing but if you asked I bet he'd consider it.
Your lava lamp is life - explosions of wondering creativity, but all is drawn back for questioning, sharing and understanding - everything from big bang to molecules joining is it.
Chinchilla was just on “The Voice” in UK and only Tom Jones didn’t turn his chair for her, I’m hoping she will do this song at some stage during process,
Great reaction! - suggest the other Ren Chincilla collab ‘ I forgot how to be me’ - live of course.
And if you’d like a blues guitar/ singer who should be way better known than she is - Suzie Vinnick (try her version of Bob Dylan’s Quit Your Lowdown ways)
Thank you 🙏❤ Eric Clark ❤ for your 🎸🧑🎤🧑🎤💊⚪ Ren X Chinchilla - Chalk Outlines (live) reaction! #ren #chalkoutlines #chinchilla
Man i always love your break downs! cant wait for How to be me live, i think its better then chalk outlines even though this song made me cry
Bravo! Great reaction ❤
I absolutely LOVE singing this song. Like it just goes along so nicely, it's fun.
Adorable kitty as well
This isn't meant as patronising as it sounds, but damn you're good at this. Normally after track conversation is meh, next... But your knowledge, empathy and wisdom is both inspiring and incredibly interesting. Love a beer with you if ever you're in the UK or I'm in Nashville 🍻
FANTASTIC reaction. Thank you 😍
One of my favourites Thank you 🙏
Great, great reaction - thank you sir👏👏👏🤝👍
Greetings from Germany 🙋♀️
What a wonderfully thoughtful reaction! Ren has become my favorite artist ever, and, hey, I'm older than you. Big love from West Nashville! Subscribed. 💜
great reaction! I love the way you describe the layers and the colors of tones and feelings. Ren is the light in the lava lamp of humanity which makes perfect sense with the way he's able to pull people in.
It’s good to have an emotional support cat when watching this video! ❤️🎶
Loved your Lava Lamp allusion - perfect !
Thank you for the ridiculously insightful reaction. We are near the same age and REN is the first artist that reached me the way TMBJ and Nirvana did all those years ago. Please keep it up and keep spreading great music!
I would love to see you interview Ren. Your angle/take on your reactions is so unique, I'm sure the interview would be great.
I love your reactions, thoughtful, authentic, insightful, fantastic I adore the song and REN but i get as much pleasure from seeing great reactions, yours is great 🙏
So glad you reacted to this! I feel this is one of his best! So many reactors start with Hi Ren(fittingly) and then this gets overlooked as they go down the rabbit hole. It also introduced me to Chinchilla who should be much larger than she is. Check out Little Girl Gone both the original video and the acoustic Little Girl Gone(A Requiem). She completely takes it in a different direction that makes you FEEL. Ofe.
I also love their connection. They are seeing each other at a soul level in this video.
Brilliant reaction thank you! 👏👏👏👏 Ren gives me hope for humanity.
Your reactions are next level. Always learn something and find myself thinking about things in a new, fresh way. Thank you!
I am obsessed with your cat… and awesome reaction
Love the lava lamp analogy.
Your analysis is the best on Spew Tube. Keep doing you.
Great Review!.. Great line about "you dont even know your alive" Your descriptive vocabulary is fantastic. ty.
That was such a beautiful way to explain the meaning behind Ren’s art. Most people go into very broad, obvious overall concepts having to do with what he does. I really loved hearing your insight!
Amazing reaction! Thank you ❤
Thank you for another great reaction. It is a true shame that so many people are unwilling to really listen. His intelligent lyricism turns many people away. They don't want to think about the increasing mental health problems, the greed of corporations turning children into anxiety ridden adults; just as they hide their heads and turn their faces when talks turn political. Personally, I love the artist willing to speak out, even if I don't agree as long as they talk intelligently about their chosen subject, they will have my respect. Consider "Dominoes" for reaction in the future. It is another amazing song that brings attention to the role of corporations in the mental health problem that is blooming. He was quite a bit younger, so perhaps not comparable to his recent work, but it still hits hard. One of my favorites, that and "Heretics" from his earlier years. Sorry, this got a bit long. Love your reactions!
Great Reaction love your take on Ren artistry
Another masterpiece composition from Ren! :)
Spot on Eric!! This is without a doubt the best analysis of this song that I've heard!! Ren definitely makes a connection with people so well, and not just of his own generation but really of so many people, I think his fanbase spans from 15 to 70 or even more!! You got to check out his money game trilogy, he just released part 3 but it makes sense to watch part 1 official video and part 2 lyric video (there is a live version of part 2 but it's not the whole song so do the lyric video) then part 3 which brings it all together
"Wow. fucking wow." Yup, same.
This is the most honest, unfiltered, and impactful reaction I've seen of this performance - I've listened (and watched) this song several dozen times, and you have captured the spirit of it brilliantly. I really enjoyed listening to your expert opinion on this and I just wanted to take a second to thank you.
What a heartfelt breakdown. 👍👍👍 I conpurr
Love your reactions and your after thoughts!! I agree 💯 with Rens ability to connect with his audience on a deeper level.
Love your reactions. I’ve noticed that since listening to Ren I’m enjoying classical music more - he draws on so much more than most folk realise - like the piano and strings on money game 3, he’s like Debussy - uses whatever makes the sounds he wants.
His truth - with talent like Hendrix, Bowie, Simon and Young.
Love your insight
Always love your reactions to Ren. This is just another fantastic one from you.
Your description around product/Consumption vs this being music is so spot on as to why so many of us connect so much with Ren.
Thank you.
I'm a '65 model,so early Gen X, and nearly all my contemporaries at school had one or both parents on Benzos for depression. It wasn't something that was done to kids, but it coloured our existence in strange ways.
Another great reaction and I just LOVE your special guest! 😻I also love that when Ren started strumming the guitar it looked like he turned to you like "You seeing this, bro?!" and then settled in for the tune. Too funny! 😂
ETA: I almost left out the important part. Don't apologize for feeling the song. Most of us are here because Ren (and Chinchilla) make us feel so deeply and we can't get enough of it. I love your reactions as well, of course! Part of the reason I'm here is because you know your stuff and you come off as genuine. Love your channel and your reactions! Thank you!
