joke is literally a song where RM showing off his rap abilities that's why his lyrics seem nonsense, he said he throws words randomly to match the rhythm, and most of the lyrics didn't have any meanings except to mock a "rappers" who thinks they can rap by just saying anything where rap literally means Rhythm And Poems

Honestly RM is known for his lyricism he's called a lyrical genius because you can never understand what he's actually talking about without dissecting his whole lyrics 😂 but trust me you'll be mind blowned if you actually try watching the explanation videos of his songs. They're amazing 💜 pls react to Jhope's daydream or airplane next 💜
The thing about RM is that his lyricism is mind blowing. There is so much happening in the lyrics here that is impossible to fully grasp without knowing korean and cultural context. There are videos with translation notes that break it down and its 🤯🤯 he just uses soooo much wordplay and can easily flip back and forth between korean and english to make everything rhyme and sound awesome. The man is a literal genius and even though I know that, his wordplays and lyricism still regularly blows my mind (Trivia: Love, the ambigram of I’m Fine vs Save Me.). He’s one of the best songwriters I’ve ever seen (and I’m not that young 😂). And then on top of that is his amazing rapping.
I highly recommend checking out the BTS Cypher series. 2 and 3 are my favorite. Just be prepared for Supreme Boi’s appearances 😂 Also Ddaeng is an absolute banger but you definitely need a whole explanation video to understand the wordplay in it. I totally love the song from a sonic and lyrical standpoint.
In terms of context here, Namjoon and Yoongi got a lot of hate for leaving the underground and “selling out” when they became part of BTS. One rapper named B Free was a total shithead to them. Cypher 2 is a direct response to him. But all of their cyphers, this song, Do You, Agust D Ddaeng, and their verses in Born Singer are basically telling those no name rappers to fuck off because they can’t hold a candle to Yoongi and Namjoon anyway.

@@reginapetrosian8742 from what I've heard Come Back Home was actually a cover, the original was by Seo Taji and Boys and they suggested to BTS that the cover it :) I would highly recommend checking out their joint performance of the song Classroom Idea, it's incredible! (BTS were hugely inspired by them) 💜
RM and Suga older raps are dissing people who hates them, who ridicule and belittle their talents and career; especially their former peers, because they both came from and left the underground rap scene, to be in BTS.

A bit about RM: yes, he was Rap Monster, but in 2017 he decided to transcend that and just be RM. He's a monster at lyrics, as you said "hard to keep up" even for Koreans. You have to stop, read/listen again, digest them and go "oh". He is literally a smart genius (IQ 148, 100 is the average) and he got in the top 1% for all the country (South Korea) with his (equivalent) SATs grades. 1% of all country... :_)
He's really charismatic and caring. He's had a lot of collabs: Kriss Kaliko, Wale, Warren G, Fallout boy..., Steve Aoki, Lil Nas X...
And he talks (not all the time) as fast as he raps when he's explaining things (I present as evidence his vlives, I rest my case XD)

He has outgrown his rap monster stage name but it was a part of his journey and changing it to RM was his decision because he thought the older name restricted his growth (to rap only) , we respect his decision, he is an amazing amazing artist!
Yes he is talking about somebody and one person in specific who he is deeming a joke. If you look at the last two words you hear RM say hit me. RM at the time of this track was undergoing nonstop personal ridicule from the underground rap scene. They belittled him for choosing to become part of the Idol platform which was for the most part a corporate phenomenon. Idol rappers were deemed not to be hip hop artists free to express outside of what corporate writers provided for them.
But what triggered this track was a junior rapper named Bobby who without provocation (aside perhaps from his label trying to do an edgy sales and knock the competition down job) at a major internationally televised award show who in front of many of RM's peers dissed RM for using the Rap Monster name and dissed BTS. RM questioned by the press simply said that is what rappers do. He released Joke shortly thereafter in the form of rap battle response (in other words, this is not a song) with the hit me symbolizing if you think you can do better come with it. Bobby never did, apologized a couple years later, and now they are on amicable terms.
(Footnote: Some Bobby fans might object saying he never really dissed RM, but when the press and the general public perceive something to have occurred, it almost doesn't matter if it did or didn't. It gains a life of its own. Look at the election was stolen campaign in the US as a perfect example of how perception morphs into reality.)

I think in order for you to understand what warrants his rage, you need react to the history of BTS with specific attention to RM and Suga. It’s always funny/ironic when people dismiss BTS especially as rappers they are so crazy talented. You need to check out JHope next, I recommend a total change of pace and try Daydream which is very upbeat. For more RM try Do You.

The rest are vocalist: Jin, V, Jimin and Jungkook
This song, if I recall correctly, is no about a specific person but more towards the hate he and his fellow BTS members are recieving daily. Especially back then when they weren't precieved as establish as they are now.
Also, since he became idol in BTS (just as Suga), he has been getting a lot of hate from the rap part of industry as it was precieved he is not "good enough" anymore because he is going mainstreem now and not underground scene.
Joke is full of wordplay, rhymes, just to show off his writing and producing skills, that's why some of the lyrics may not make sense, but that is the point.

So there’s already been some comments about this song showing his speed and technical ability in rap, but he did it specifically because he was facing a lot of backlash from the underground rap/hip hop scene about him being a sellout and less of a rapper cause he joined a group. So not only is he showing them that he is technically superior in his rap ability, he’s also making fun of the depth and comprehension of other rapper’s lyrics.

Joke is LITERALLY a joke for Rm hence you probably would’ve noticed that it has no actual meaning to it. It’s a response to the people who belittled him and talked nonsense. However, the cadence, the rhyme and flow are so impressive; Rm bodied this. Yes it’s meaningless BUT there’s so much auditory pleasure that you get to experience from listening to it. It’s satisfying in a way.

RM already outgrown the Rap Monster name, he thinks it’s a childish name and sort of limits his ability to another genres. Now, he like to called himself as RM stand for (Real Me/Real Music). RM started to rap in underground korean rap scene in early 2008, in 2007 he like to posts his lyrics, poems in underground internet cafe blog. He goes with different name in underground scene, Runch Randa, Stealo and many more. The first mixtape is his response to the haters, the older rappers who throw hates on him and more of to how he want to show his skills as a rapper and how he want to do whatever he wants, he also spoke about his struggles in his 1st mixtape but more with the identity crisis because part of him want to be rapper, part of him want to be an idol, part of him want to be an artist. He also received a lot hates and criticisms coming from underground scenes that people telling him, he’s sell out and kpop idol fans think he dont deserved to be an idol. He used a lot of samples in this mixtape. So most of the beats are a sample from other rappers.
This mixtape also received a lot hates and criticisms regarding the misogynistic lyrics that RM wrote himself. So, this is the point where RM reflect and educate himself where after this mixtape he referred his lyrics to a specialist woman studies that they will check his lyrics.

Thanks for your reaction, RM is no joke when it comes to lyricism as others have pointed out. I'm not a strong fan of rap but I have respect for the BTS rappers and vocal line too. They are so diverse and not afraid to confront social issues and injustices so your BTS journey will be eventful if you continue.
