      @@rogers5622 Right?! I had the "mom guilt" when my husband suggested that I have a scheduled c-section. This is my first baby (at 31) but I've been having some BP problems, and I also have a tendency to pass out and have seizures when I'm in too much pain. When I get them, it wipes me out for a couple of days. So if we were going to wait til contractions happen naturally, it was a risk I didn't feel comfortable taking. Luckily my doctor is super understanding and was like "Ok, if that's what you want to do we can get it scheduled." I just wish Elizabeth could be my L&D/PP nurse! lol

      Tldr; labour takes some time, C-sections are pretty quick & it goes well in the end ❤
      💘hi Whitney, if it gives you some peace: "C-section births can be as beautiful as natural births" imho.
      *Facts:* 36hr labour & c-section
      *Relief:* The best! Baby has got to come out eventually, right?😂
      *Operations:* Took like 15min. Walking that night, cathedar removed next morning, breastfed no problem. Sneeze & cough into a pillow for a few weeks. Pain killers when help is there
      *Opinion:* if the DR okays it the hospital is there to "catch you" in a sense. So if you want to feel labor, you probably can. *BUT my whole pregnancy had no complications (besides GBS +) so it matters what BP means..*

      Georgia Barnes this is a super, way late comment, but I would’ve LOVED to have her. My PP day nurse wasn’t the nicest or most helpful. My doctor agreed to let me go home after a day (c-section, second baby I did well with both) and my daughter’s pediatrician said she was good to go also. I let my nurse know and she straight up told me there was no way I was going home and my baby definitely wasn’t going home and was just extra rude. I wasn’t a high-maintenance patient and I still was kind to her. Long story short, we went home as my doctor said. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I still don’t know why she was so mean to me.

      There is so much fear surrounding birth, I sometimes think it's hard for people to remember that they were made to have babies! That being said, if someone wants to have an epidural for whatever reason, that is their choice that I fully support. But for those who want to do it without, I agree, they will be amazed at what they can fight through. 😊 Also, Ich kann ein bisschen Deutsch sprechen! I have Deutsch in der Schule gelernt

      I am from Austria! 😀
      I just gave birth to my second child a month ago and have watched countless L&D vlogs on CZcams over the last four years and I am always amazed that giving birth with an epidural while lying in your back seems to be the norm in the US, at least that's what I got from most of the videos. I was on my hands and knees for the most part of my labour both times and let gravity help me, I would have been super uncomfortable lying on my back the whole time. I did some yoga during my first pregnancy and discovered that I always felt the most comfortable on my hands and knees so I knew that was going to be my prefered position during labour and of course I went for it again with my second baby. I always said to myself I'll let my body lead the way, can't go wrong with that!
      And I didn't get an epidural both times, was at 10cm with my son when I arrived at the hospital (although it still took about 3 hours before he was born) and had my daughter exactly one hour after I stepped out of the car. At one point they checked me and I was at 8cm, so I went from 8cm to having my baby on my chest in less than an hour, I knew that second births usually happen a lot faster but I was very surprised it happened this fast. I was like "wow I didn't learn anything the first time around, almost didn't make it in time AGAIN!". 😅
      But yes, every woman is different and should be able to go for and have the delivery she wants!

    Your story reminds me a lot of mine! I had an unmedicated birth with my second baby. The cord prolapsed, then he had shoulder dystocia and the cord was wrapped around his neck. The midwife put her hand inside me and broke his collar bone to get him out. It was like an out of body experience. Then he came out and wasn’t breathing right, a code blue was called. My mother, who was filming, actually turned the camera off because she thought the baby had passed. It was horrible and miraculous all at the same time. I’m so happy to say that my son is now 15 years old and a healthy young man! Due to his complicated and traumatic delivery however, we didn’t have any more children. My husband just didn’t think we could go through it again. All of that said, compared to my first delivery of my daughter which was medicated, I recovered SO QUICKLY, in comparison. I think Mamas should do what is right for them and every birth is different. I really enjoy watching your videos and your sweet disposition ❤️

I so badly wanted to do it naturally, but the pitocin kicked my butt. • @cathiwim
      @cathiwim Před 3 lety

      Usually it is easier, because you can move around and empty your bladder without a catheter, if you havent had an epidural. One of the persistent side effects many women have(and dont understand why) from an epidural is a backache or pain where the epidural was inserted. Some women notice it for years afterwards.

  • @Tasey3
    @Tasey3 Před 5 lety +12

    He's awesome, you're awesome, sorry it was a scary experience. I chose the epidural both times, but the second was more pragmatic since we were looking like a c-section and having the epidural already in place would allow me to get the spinal block instead of full anaesthesia. Which is exactly what happened and it was a scary couple of minutes waiting for her to cry (also variable decels, from a prolapsed cord and then she slipped back into transverse while I was laboring).
    Not sure why I'm spilling all that, to be honest, but I know the scary stomach-in-throat feeling and empathize.

    I just watched your 2 birth stories in a row. I'm 9 mos pregnant with my third & have watched about a million of your videos over and over while I nest. I'm hoping to get an unmedicated experience this time (first 2 were epidural) but I'm 35 wks and she's breech. Anyway, you've definitely come into your own in the progression on these videos. An inspiration!

    I had all my children without any meds or epidural too!!! The only reason I chose to have them naturally is fear of a needle in my spine. I was very fortunate to have my first one being only about 7 1/2 hours of active labour and second was even less; 4 hours...❣️🇨🇦

    Love your videos. After having one delivery unmedicated, and water broke naturally, compared to an induction, and epidural, I will take the natural any day. In my opinion, the induced contractions took my breath away, from the beginning, and back then, you had to wait until you hit 4 cent, for an epidural. That took me over 8 hours of contractions, that were about a minute apart, right out of the gate. I felt my natural delivery was calmer, and the build up was slower. It was a longer labor, but I felt more in control. On the other hand, when I finally received my epidural, I went from 4 cent, to crowning, in two hours, and nearly had him alone, because the nurse, nor doctor would listen, when I said it was time. I had to be very insistent to get someone into the room, to check on me. I got the leg pat, and was told, it just felt, like he was crowning. My son was born face up, and the back labor, was pretty intense. The doctor upon delivery, said something about, "Oh no, his nose", and my son,was whisked away, without me seeing him. He had a large prominent vein across the bridge that was worrisome, and being compressed. Scary when you do not hear your child cry, and the doctor appears worried.

    Currently pregnant with my second child. I had an unmedicated birth for the first. I did not have those "breaks" in-between contractions like most women apparently do. I was in constant excruciating pain but pushed through it with pressure points mainly. I couldn't stand, couldn't stay seated and just wanted to lie down on my side.
    You didn't feel the need to push at 9½? Daaaaamn gurl! I couldn't help myself at 8½-9. I had to push and I tried resisting as much as I can, but failed most of the time hahaha! It's so fascinating how each birth is totally unique and how we all have different pain, different feel.
    My son was finally born after 12 hours of active labour, but he had pooped on his way out and so when I thought he was breathing he was simply trying (his airways were blocked by the gunk). They suctioned everything out and put him on oxygen. He cried finally and it was like a kitten's meow. Soooooo cute
    I was way too tired to really take all of it in and the OBGYN made sure I kept my focus on her at the feet of the bed by asking a lot of questions and explaining what I and she needed to do next (deliver the placenta, give me a few stitches, clean me up, have me eat something, get my colostrum, etc). Once everything was done and the band of nurses that had rushed in (like 6 of them + the one that had been with me all night long) left, I was alone with my mother in the room (my husband had left with the baby and the nurses)... I asked her where was my son, what was going on and I started to bawl my eyes out :'D . The labour nurse came in and gave me as much details as she could. My son was born at 7h43 and I got to see him only around 15h.
    It was not idealistic but everyone was so kind, so helpful and so compassionate that I wasn't traumatized. The nurses and pediatrician took good care of us and my son while he was hospitalized. He received the antibiotics he needed to prevent infection from getting meconium in his system and is since a very happy, healthy boy.

    Wow, watching this just helped me understand what probably happened in the moment before my daughter was born. I didn't ask a lot of questions bc it was a scary experience. Cord around neck and things became extremely urgent with instructions that I needed to get baby out NOW. Now I get it, I always wondered why they wouldn't be able to just slip it off, must have been something like this. Waiting to hear her cry as I watching them vigorously rub her felt like forever but was probably only a few seconds. Thank God she's perfect 🙌 going for unmedicated this second time, just like you said I want to know what it's like. Excited for the endorphin rush 😛

    I'm pregnant with my first baby and I've been trying to decide how to proceed with labor and delivery. To numb or not to numb? That is truly the question! I absolutely love your channel and your babies are just the cutest! ❤
    I've always firmly landed in the "every woman should decide what's best for herself and her baby during delivery! *BUT* I think I want the drugs. All the drugs. Screw that noise and nonsense!" Now that I'm actually pregnant and have a lot more emotional weight strapped into this rollercoaster, I'm more on the fence. I'm thinking of focusing heavily on non-medication pain relief as much as possible and taking things as they come. After talking in depth with my OB, our tentative plan is to have an epidural placed and "tested" but not to use enough medication to actually numb me unless I cry uncle later on. Having the epidural placed and quickly available also takes away some of the fear I have about having to have general anesthesia for an emergency c-section if things start to go sideways during my delivery. (I'm technically a high risk pregnancy. As of now, the birth itself isn't expected to have any special considerations or issues aside from the normal wild cards that can get thrown into *any* other birth. But I guess it pays off to kind of plan for the possibilities. Especially when you have one or two things you feel VERY strongly about that might be able to be avoided with careful preplanning!)
    At the end of the day, my main priority is to deliver my daughter as unhealthily as possible and as safely as possible. It's hard hearing SO many horror stories from friends and family about their births. I really appreciate all of the educational content that Nurse Zabe and others like her are putting out for us all.

    I have to say, I love your videos.
    I was induced on a Thursday. My water broke on its own on Sunday and right after midnight I had my daughter. The pushing felt better for me, too.
    My water broke at 3 pm, my contractions became "holy shit" around 8 pm, I got in the tub, got out at 10 pm (3 cm dilated). 10 cm at 11 pm. Baby was here at two minutes after midnight.
    I have to say, going from 0 cm dilated to baby is here (9,3 pounds girl, first birth) was quite a ride. The worst parts were the waiting parts. Pushing and the tub were honestly painful as heck but fine.
