Brian you’re a saint to all detailers that want to be more knowledgeable on products. You should easily have 100k followers. Keep up the good work.
Hahahaaa. I am perfectly happy having you guys as my extended family!!! You will not hear me complain.😁
Should be millions of subscribers. Brian is the Patron Saint of Detailers.
I agree, these are real reviews... Thumbs up! :)
No doubt
To me Brian is more like a Sensei. With a ceramic coated Black Belt - Hiyaaaaaaaaaah!
Love the blue water, it makes it easier to view. The test method was different but logical, shows how hard each product cures. Thanks for doing the comparison so soon.
I did chemical resistance when I reviewed them individually...wanted to move on to see how hard they are to remove.
Here’s what I like about your channel, the deliberate attention to detail, the product testing that your viewers request, and a straight forward evaluation on each product. Here’s what I don’t like, nothing .Love your channel keep up the good work!
Richard F I dedicate the material on this channel to you guys... so I post what YOU want to see... not what i think you should.😁
This stuff is witchcraft. Who woulda thought we’d have spray bottles of hard protection that can survive a compounding, and at 20 bucks or less... delivered to your house. Technology really has come a long way in so many aspects of life. A ton of it is mind blowing. Imagine having this shit in the 80s or 90s.
It has come a long way and each year advances faster and faster.
Seal n shine does it for 6$ better than both of these😉
There's a bunch of new paste wax out now the has ceramic in it as well
Im still all about the original turtle wax tub yo. My 88 5.0 loooks great with it I like it keep it real yo.
The best product reviews and comparisons....period!
Mikey P you are making me blush!
Good to see how well these coatings cure to the paint. That means if I do 3 coats of Cmx waiting the proper cure time in between coats my car should have a flawless gloss and bead water quite well. From other reviews I heard applying multiple coats of either of these really helps maintain longevity. Quite a good value for 20 bucks.
Wow, spray on protection has come a looong way in the past couple of years. Looking back at it, applying a layer of sealant and then a layer wax seem so labor intensive now.
Thanks for everything that you do for us Brian.
So many to pick from now...a win win.
The Meg’s is still looking like a lot of bang for the buck if you apply it by your preferred method. Man I can never get enough of your videos. Thank You 🤘🏼
It is a toss up....either one would do you just fine!🙂
I just tried the meguiars today. A week of rain is coming. Let's see how it holds up.
@@jamesstewart1794 can you tell us the results of the Meguiars?
@@notfound-qg2ii overpriced. The initial water behaviour is good no doubt. However , unless you do at least a wetspray before drying your car pretty much every following wash ,the product degrades pretty quickly. I'm not buying it anymore.
Best advantage of CMX:
Will not leave streaks like the McGuiar's Ceramic Wax does. It's hard to see the streaks on a white car but very annoying on dark or medium coloured vehicles.
After using both back to back, the performance is about the same yet the CMX can be applied in about half the time -- since you don't have to do multiple wipe downs or hit it with a spray detailer to remove streaks.
Winner: CMX.
Excellent product reviews ✊I appreciate the time and effort you put into the channel 👍🏻
Big D I wouldnt have it any other way!😁
This is actually the first channel i have seen that has actually used a polisher and abrasive products to text the coatings and their efficacy at binding and maintaining their protection levels .Other channels tend to just compare beading and hydrophobics and maybe spraying some apc but never as thorough as you did mate .I'm subbing for the pure fact you took the extra step of adding blue dye to the water because of the light coloured car being used for the test.I have always tend to think these are something that work but only stay on the car for a few weeks hence i tend to reapply every car wash lol but now i can see it really does bond like a true ceramic coating !
I love that you use dye in your water as a way to show the process better.
Who disliked this video? Wow. Hope that was a mistake. Brian is one the most sincere and genuine folks on CZcams. Keep up the good work sir. We love your videos!
I love all interactions...dislikes help the video on YT algorithm. 🙂
Thanks for the detailed review. I already have a bottle of CMX so I guess I'll go forward with it.
Used Maguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Spray on my old Lexus RX330. The paint surface is like glass now. I am completely impressed. Be sure to follow the instructions for the foundational layer. It can get tacky on the surface, but smooths out nicely with a microfiber.
I think you'll be the new CZcams sensation man.
I own a detail shop and don't have a lot of time to test every product so your channel will help me and save time.
Thanks for sharing your reviews
Brian, another well informed vid. I just tried the Meguiars this weekend and have the Mothers on order. Your vids are the perfect length with all the info. Some of these guys 20 25 even 30 minutes are way to long. You good brother. Awesome.
Use Mother's as the base layer...Megs as the maintenance...you will love it!!👍🙂
Nice video. Gotta love how quickly you get the people what they are asking for.
I dont mess around!🙂
Extremely detailed! I appreciate you going through all the rigorous testing to make sure these are tested to the limits.
I just did the CMX on my truck. I've always used carnuba which looks really good but doesn't last as long as I would like. I used polishing compound and then applied a coat. I waited till the next day and applied a second coat. Hopefully this will last through the summer. So far I'm liking the way it looks. I have black paint and it looks like glass, I can see my reflection. My truck is black and has 162k and is a 2008. I sprayed the microfiber and also sprayed some on the paint itself.
I covered chemical resistance for both of these products when I reviewed them individually. Feel free to visit those vids and check it out. I wanted to move on in this video. Show what else they can withstand.😁
What is the next match up you would like to see?
P.S bead maker vs Hybrid wax
Thanks for honoring our requests! Best detail channel on YT....hands down.
@@jamesbiedlar590 agreed. No bs marketing
DPC versus these two!
Excellent demonstration Brian!!
I can definitely see circumstances where both of these products would be very useful. I will have both in my arsenal for sure! NEXT: Mother's CMX vs. Adam's Ceramic Spray Coating. Looking at the way Mothers performs (at the price point) I can't even justify paying what Adams is charging for their Ceramic Spray but it would be nice to see those two go head to head and see the differences between them both. 👀👍
Great video Brian!!! Thank you!
I’ve been using the Megs Hybrid, just a little on a microfiber to wipe and buff dry on my wet cars after washing. Almost zero extra work over just a wash and wipe dry, but with excellent results. This product is a game changer for ease of use for me... I’m glad to see it was pretty much on par with the Mother’s product! Thanks again!
So many of these to pick from now... Cheers!!
Thanks!I think MHC has more uniform beading regardless of size. It looks it shed more water to start leading to fewer but tighter beads. Bothe certainly do look great though. I'll be going for MHC as I use FF now and it's great. Perhaps FF topped with MHC as Meguiars says ti can be used as a topper. So many excellent, affordable and user friendly SiO2 type products now it's great!
It is a win win...many to pick from.🙂
EXCELLENT Video and presentation, covered all aspects, with no questions left unanswered and more, clear speaking and annunciation, good for us old guys. Thanks Brian!
Meguirs only needs 3-4 sprays for the whole hood and it’s water activated so light spray with water is the better choice for applying the second coat. Initial coat should be applied with a towel. I think both of these products are great for the price. Interested in seeing how long they last in the weather
After seeing this demonstration on an older vehicle with light coloured paintwork, AND the incredible results, I 've subbed! I can't wait to get my hands on a bottle of this product. Me personally, I prefer the application process of the Mothers Ceramic Ciating to the Meguiars spray on and hose off..but like I said that's my preference. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK AND HI FROM AUSTRALIA 🇦🇺👍
I've never seen such a good comparison of products. I am very grateful for you recording and taking the time to do the testing. The blue water is great for showing the results.
Brian, thank you!!!
I like what you said about the CMX, less waste and easier applying.
Question for Brian: Is either of these products better than a rub-on wax? Better as in protection and long lasting?
Now I need to watch all your other videos.
After this I am happy I picked up some meguiars hcw for 12 bucks today with 5 dollar rebate. Really like how you tested.
best benchmark ever
respect
I have both mother’s and the meguiar’s ceramic. I didn’t follow the steps on the Meguiar’s ,because it will be a waste of product; I applied the product on a clean dry surface like you would with the CMX by mother’s. I actually like the results the Meguiar’s gave me with the slickness , and very high gloss appearance than the CMX. I just bought the griots ceramic 3 and 1 wax. I’ll be testing that soon. Video request.. could you test out the new turtle wax ceramic ! I hear it’s the best !
Always nice to have a control area next to the test areas for comparison.
Great video. I made the decision to go with CMX since I don't have the luxury of watering down my car after I polish because of the location.
Great choice!👍🙂
i have no idea why but i find the blue water oddly satisfying
I do too!!🙂👍
Nice to see you using the Poorboy's World SSR-2.5! I am a big fan of many PBW products! Great video, as always, sir.
Same here
I enjoy many PBW products...especially the Super Suds Shampoo.🙂
Dallas Paint Correction did 2 clips explaining the fact that that new Megs Hybrid wax has basically no sio2 in it, and challenged Megs to prove him otherwise. Megs' MSDS for the Hybrid Wax doesn't state that it has any harmful chemicals in it, saying if you, for example, swallow it, to "Just wash your mouth out with water". The product apparently works well regardless, just sounds like a bunch of fraudulent marketing.
Rest time! There’s no rest time in the detailing business. Quit slacking off Brian! Lol...
Another great video Brian. I’ll stick with Megs for now.
lolll
My old ass needs rest time!😂
Great seeing them side by side, I was quite surprised how well they held up
Shaun Jones with PROPER prep work... these 2 are the real deal.💪🏼
Excellent video. Only thing I'd add, after switching from traditional paste wax to CMX recently - shake the bejesus out of the bottle before you start applying it to each panel. The first panel I did I could not get the smearing out and had to start again - I guessed it was separation in the bottle from me not shaking it enough, so really shook the bottle the second time around and that sorted it out - it was easy from then on. I also found that my old faithful long, fine shag microfibre polishing cloth wasn't much good at removing the residue, so I switched to a noodle polishing cloth which worked a treat. On the whole the stuff is super easy to use though, and the level of gloss is better than I thought it would be too.
Anytime I use any product that has more than one ingredient I shake the hell out of it. When you have more than one ingredient I think there will always be some separation. I'm not just talking about car related stuff but anything. Except polyurethane varnish, you can't shake that because it will put bubbles in it. But even with that I stir it.
@@actionjksn Me too, I just under-estimated the amount of shaking the CMX required - far more than my usual spray wax.
This seems like a better test than just spraying on a caustic cleaner and saying “yep, they both failed.”
I’ve seen on another channel from a Meguiar's employee to use the CMX first (or a product like it) and then use the Meguiar's as a top coat / drying aid. That seems make more sense.
Hello I've been D Talon for 15 years and I have also tried both products I have just recently purchased the mother's CMX and I would have to say that by far by a long shot that is the best product out of the 2 I applied it to the vehicle let it dry overnight wiped it off and the hydrophobic properties are phenomenal nothing sticks to the pain at all it rains the car's clean it doesn't last as long you have to get an actual ceramic coating if you want that but if you're used to washing your vehicle on a weekly basis this is just a next step if you can't afford the actual ceramic coating
Is it hard to buff out after leaving it on all night? Would it be a problem if it sat in the sun? I just did it by wetting the microfiber and also spraying the panels and buffing it after five or ten minutes. Then after leaving it to dry including in the sun I applied a second coat. I'm hoping to have it last through the summer and then do three coats in the early fall to get it ready for winter.
@@actionjksn don't apply in the sun It heats up the chemical and if you going to stack it you have to do it every 24 hours to allow each coat to cure
glad to see how you damage the coatings, as we need to know a how to get rid of, before apply it. The manufactuer should have a bottle called 'de-coating'.
Another great vlog Brian plenty of good information it gives us the chance to pick the right products and know what's out there thanks
Absolutely...plenty of these to pick from now.
You said the Meguiar’s was a little of a waist of product... but u didnt read the directions on the back... that tells you to put the product on dry for the 1st coat then buff and to re-coat spray on the vehicle after washing
Great video! Both products look great and have great price points compared to others.
FAB Automotive Detailing a toss up really... both look great... are the real deal.. and are affordable.😁
@@apexdetail85 The price they are charging is unbelievably low. I recall wasting $25 for one of the 4 oz hydro something product couple years ago over internet. I am sure some of the professional detailers are probably livid at these manufacturers for making this available to joe public. Anybody for ceramic coating for $2995 ?
Thank you for educating me!
I thought the coatings were just a couple molecules thick, and they would go away with the slightest abrasives on any pad. Very, very interesting to watch!
I wish it were that easy...takes a bit more work than that.😜
Thank You for sharing Your Love and Passion for Your Craft and Dedication as a Great Trade Teacher !!!! My Favorite CZcams Chanel by Far~!
My pleasure! I love this stuff!🙂
That’s a very thorough and comprehensive test and it satisfied my “ I want to know”. Because of this I’m now subscriber and punched the bell as well.
Nice, and i worked at a nissan dealership as a detailer, they have some of the worst paints in the industry so fragile..
Great video! Both products look excellent. What a time to be alive
It is a win win...both are fantastic.
Personally the CMX isn't a wax hybrid though and Meguirs is if I'm not mistaken hence why the CMX is spread differently on car. I feel like mother's had a little less hydrophobic properties according to this video but both protect the same. What I really like to know if Mother's leaves superior shine after 24 hours. The application process on Meguiars seems lame. Spray water on to coat the ceramic evenly. Mehhh. Naw. I bought mother's product since it's so so similar to true ceramic coating properties and the application process is the same. I do think everyone should know. Full clay 1st, then swirl and paint correction 2nd with OB I love swirl removal by Jax wax with medium abrasive pad, Sealant (polymer) of you choose, or skip and go to ceramic coating at that point. 24 hours cure in garage with no cold or dust and especially no water. Then walk into garage in morning and love your ride even more !
mothers for the win.
do you think mothers would last a few months in the northeast? where we get snow and all that goes along with that.
4 months on average is what I see so far. I have it applied to a few cars I maintain.
Brian, thank you for another excellent review and video!! I watch, learn and appreciate you spending the time to do them as I do learn. Many, many thanks!!
Much more content to come...stay tuned!!

I sprayed the CMX on my car (which some say to spray on towel instead)
And it left white particles in tight areas, so I had to rinse and dry my entire car again
Thanks that is the comparison video I have been waiting to see... Good Job!!! I always like your reviews.
Larry o thanks!
Thanks for getting this one posted so quickly!
jennifer I dont mess around.😜
Much appreciated!
Brian thank you for making these excellent video. And giving us an idea between the two. Personal preference & durability.
it is a win win...throw a dart.🙂
Thanks very much for this comparison. This is exactly what I was waiting for. Great job!
You are in good hands with both of these products.👍
Love your reviews, very thorough. You’ve helped me make many decisions on products. In this case I’ll be trying the Mothers, I’m so not a fan of anything Meguiars. Anyway, thanks for another great video.
That would be my choice as well.
Really enjoyed all the infor. in this video, great job, Thanks , Now I can make an educated decision on which Ceramic product I'd like to try. Amazing the protection level of these 2 products.
Exactly what I was looking for and you delivered. Now I’m a subscriber. Thank you.
I found the Meguiars left haze/streaks on a dark metallic. Had to use P40 detailer as a final finisher
Same experience here. The CMX does not leave streaks so it is MUCH faster to go over the car.
"the slight edge goes to CMX" actually it's a huge difference between them at that point in the video. CMX is still beading and the other isn't. period.
Did you notice any decrease in swirl marks? I've got a show thing weekend, but I'm not quite ready to break out the buffer yet. :P
If the only difference in your opinion, is wet or dry application, then the winner is Mothers CMX, because that also you can apply to a wet or dry surface. Correct?
i just put some mothers on my challenger today. I hope it helps to keep off all that pesky dirt and grime that collects on the tail lights/rear bumper area. its always the first area to see dirty because its mostly black/glossblack panel
Exellent l'idée de l'eau bleu pour mieux voir l'effet hydrophobe ! 👍.
Wow! Great work. When I watch guys like you, I realize I'll never be patient enough to be a good detailer haha
Nonsense! You will be a great detailer!
Great video i have a question what's the best way to apply soap when being mobile with the airless sprayer From Campbell's Mobile Detailing
Felis Campbell My next video should cover that...stay tuned!
I still would like to see the chemical resistance
Also I’m glad to see you’re so proactive. The mothers hasn’t been reviewed by anyone else as far as I know. Thanks!
Unless he goes out and bottles traffic film or road salt....what would be the purpose? Just a question. Who the hell sprays APC or wheel cleaner directly on the clear coat?
James Biedlar the purpose would be for those who use non-pH neutral snow foams and pre soaks for extremely dirty vehicles. These companies advertise chemical resistance and I’d actually like to see if they are advertising truthfully. Usually is from a range of 2-12. Some recommended pre soaks are in the 12-12.5 pH range and yes I’d like to see him test that. That’s the point my friend.
Following this series...all those cleaners have done if anything... is hamper the characteristics of the coating leaving a film behind. I get what you are saying.. but how would that show up on video? Looks like he gave up on that portion of the testing as well. BTW.. it is commonly known to use a PH neutral product after a coating... why such aggression after and not before the coating? I dont get it. "Self cleaning " coatings should not that high of a ph.. it is silly!
I covered chemical resistance when I reviewed then individually... feel free to visit those vids. I simply want to move on and show more of what these beasts can take. Cheers!you guys are the best!😁
I did this test too, to me they have the same slickness and gloss. I just did a video of what cmx does to your towels
You could throw a dart...its a win win.
What does it do to the towels?
When you freshly polish the paint, the compound/polish will act as a protector until a wash or 2. so testing it right after a polish isn't accurate... the polishing compound is hydrophobic.
What about UV protection? That is what kills paint.
Can anyone tell me if I can apply either of these products over top of my already carnuba waxed car??
You can but for best results just wash your car with like a dawn dishwasher first it will strip the wax and is still safe for your paint
I’m going to go broke from amazon LOL . I have bought everything in your decontamination video, tons of rags and pads. Also Angel Wax Enigma AIO which seems to give the results I’m looking for on my daily drivers. This will happen in the spring as it freezing and winter sucks in Indy. Thanks for the videos.
In your video at the end you seem to confuse the two products. You say the Mothers side is failing and then say the CMX side is still there , but barely. - Mothers and CMX are the same product ?? Then you say the CMX appears to have the slight edge in durability, but it appears the Meguires product is the one that actually stood up better (applied to drivers side). So I guess I'm left confused. Did you mean to say that the Meguires has the edge in durability?
Im confused. you wrap up by saying the slight edge on durability is CMX, but you said that it was sheeting and failing sooner only a few moments earlier?
This is a GREAT vid. Thanks. I have 2 questions. 1) How often do you recommend reapplication? 2) Is the only way to remove these products is to use machine heavy polishing pads?
Used it today for the first time. Easy on and off, nice shine, very nice water beading. But... When leftover water drops dry completely, it leaves water stains who are much much much more visible then I'm used to and not that easy to remove. So dry after rain or only use in the summer would be my advice/is what I'm gonna do.
Thank you so much. U made up my mind. I would like to thank you for ur time spent on this. You pretty much answered my questions
You are truly in good hands with either one of these.
Would like to see these products tested on various materials like plastics (smooth, textured, etc.) gloss plastics, rubber, glass, etc.
It shall be done!🙂
Duuuude! I can't believe you broke out the poorboy's ssr! Do I see a review on it in the future? Lol. I'll admit, I haven't had good experiences with it on German paint. Great as always!
Its ok....I like it on soft clear.🙂👍
Maybe I did something wrong but it took me hours to use the mother’s preclean and apply the ceramic to my 3500 Sierra.
you should have covered each side while spraying the products, overspray means they have mixed in the middle. just an observation.
Great video. I like the cmx considering its not as big of company as mg.
Brian can you use a heavier stream of water for your testing as that light mist isn't heavy enough to show water movement. It tends to just sit in place.
Sure thing.
At 13:43 you said Mother's side and then CMX side??
As with most things.. Especially with auto detailing , you get what you pay for! Mothers cmx coast a little more and it's a little better. Imo
Meguiars Xpress spray Wax 👍 I know it's only a spray wax but curious on its durability. I know for me that product is a must. Nothing beats Wax as you dry !
On average I've seen about 2-4 weeks durability in the summer for clients cars.Depending on weather conditions of course. I use it when the client doesn't really want any paint protection (for whatever reason) or they use automated car washes on a regular basis, stripping pretty much any coating aside from a ceramic in less than a months time. So using anything expensive is pointless. Hope that helps.
@@shawndejong6699 gotcha thank you! Here in winter of Chicago maybe a week tops with the salt snow etc. I do 40$ Wash and waxes and use xpress as a wax
Another quick efficient way to lay down some gloss and protection. Not very durable but hey!🙂
@@daves.3278 I'm just east of Toronto Canada. I just detail in the summer as a side gig. I have yet to see a single wax/sealant that can survive more than 2 weeks up here outside of a full blown 2-3 year prosumer coating. The sand/salt strips everything.
Would you detailing guys recommend putting sealant on and then this ceramic wax or does this replace sealant and or carnauba wax?
Yes but common spray cleaner degreasers will totally strip these off
Brian, in your recent videos it appears that you've switched from IPA to panel prep (wax and grease remover) to clean the treated surfaces. What prompted the change? How do you determine which product you use? There's a lot of negatives published about IPA ratios and IPA in general as cleaner for painted surfaces. I would really value your feedback regarding pros and cons of IPA vs panel preps.
DPW 247 good question. I have a similar interest.
IPA is fine in a pinch...but true panel preps such as IGL Precoat are so much more effective. Reduces the occasion of going over it twice or more.
Love these side by side reviews.
One more question, can it also be applied with a foam pad on a 10' buffer? Thanks
Sonax Spray and Seal, Mothers CMX and Adams Guard and Gloss.
Spray and Seal is FANTASTIC!!
One of my favorites! (Sonax spray and seal) 👍
Brian, are you aware of a windshield cleaning product that sprays on like a foam but turns into a powder and very easy to wipe off but leaves a clean windshield ? I detailed cars at a car dealer about 3 decades ago and loved the stuff but I've not been able to find it. The dealer bought from a detail shop supplier.
Can not say I have used it.
Good, informative video. Keep up the good work. I would recommend maybe comparing prices too?
Since most of the qualities of both are pretty equal, I’m going to have to go with Megs since it has more application methods.
It is a win win...enjoy!
the number one reason I do not use any Meguiar's products anymore ! The bottles always seem to crack , then you find yourself either throwing it out because it leaks everywhere ? or trying to find another bottle to place the product in ? it is frustrating when you have a 3/4 bottle of product . the Plastic polish is the worst ! just squeezing the bottle causes it to crack and leak ! I would rather spend my money on the mothers , rather then throw product on the ground or in the garbage !
If you read the directions on the magiurs for the first time to put on when wet then dry
