      I feel very blessed. I am caretaking for a runt piglet in my home and trying to help out gain weight and then sending it back to the farm. The pig is a feeder pig so it will one day be on the market but giving it a good life temporarily worked out for all of us including the sweet pig.

    • @danceballetacro
      @danceballetacro Před 7 lety +14

      I appreciate life. The fact that one day the pig will die does not discourage me from being kind and loving toward it while it is alive. Lets say I would pass on the opportunity of caretaker, then the pig would probably not ever experience a hug, kiss, going for a walk, getting a bath, playing outside, snuggles and seeing the weather. I understand that you feel sad about it; death is sad. Death makes me sad too. In a perfect world nothing would have to die. The animal is not mine to take, I am just helping a hardworking and kind family out with this little one. I hope you will find comfort in the fact that this pig and the hogs from its farm are not slaughtered in the way that you say, they are electrocuted before they even know what happens; they are gone. This is one of the most humane ways I have heard of for livestock. There is no slicing and hanging while they are alive. Most livestock/fish/game are cute but without livestock many would not have food to eat and the nutrients they need.

    • @skywise8
      @skywise8 Před 7 lety +9

      People can get the nutrients they need quite easily without needing to consume meat. Growing food for human consumption takes up less time, money, and space than growing animals for slaughter.

      Sandeanna Becker I'm pretty sure the ugly beast you're describing is yourself. It's disgusting that someone would hate a creature, for their natural size. If it is a micro pig and it weighs over 180lbs it's as overweight as you are. A mini pig is quite small conpared to their full counter parts (600lb to 1000lb). The only thing that is hideaous is your abhorrent attitude.

      "Love" doesn't magically produce resources an animal needs and the larger the animal, the more they need.
      Do you not love the animal species you don't have as pets? If I came to your door and dumped a foal, would "loving" it mean keeping a full grown horse locked up in your backyard?
      Or if you're like me, then you don't even have a yard and your pets have to live inside, only going outside for walks.
      Guess I don't love horses or else I'd have a horse right now. 😂
      Guess I don't love my Chihuahua either because if he grew to the size of a Great Dane or turned into a Border Collie with insane exercise needs...then I wouldn't have room, and the responsible loving thing to do would be to give him to a rescue where he could find a new home which actually has the necessary resources.
      If you ever actually have a pet, just ask yourself: can I take care of this pet if they grow to be as large as an elephant? If you aren't willing to have an elephant sized version of your pet, then damn...guess you don't love them. 😔

      But it doesn't help that unscrupulous dealers are promoting these pigs as perpetually small lap animals, if they are eventually going to outweigh both of your full grown bulldogs combined!
      On a positive note, I have just the solution.... I have bred and created micro-whales for your fish tank! They start out as babies of only around 25lbs, and even when fully grown they will always be small enough for that 1 gallon goldfish bowl you won at the carnival! When fully grown, you should expect them to be no more than 1.5'(.5 meter) long and 35lbs. ***Disclaimer: Our size estimates may be off by -57 feet(18m), and -55 tons.

Although it's smaller than your average farm hog who is the size of a counter and weghis 500 to 1000 pounds it's not "teacup". They are still awesome pets tho. Don't understand why people get mad when having a small intelligent pig with them.

    • @caponsacchi
      @caponsacchi Před 8 lety +17

      What's stupid is a comment like this. What's "messing with nature" is the barbaric practice called "pig farming"--another of the diseases afflicting what's called "civilization." It's taking the most intelligent, emotionally sensitive, human-like animal and depriving it of natural sun , natural ground to stand on, natural earth to dig in, a pond to wallow in, a natural tail (it's cut off at birth), anything close to its natural life span (a pig is slaughtered at 6 months, which is 15-19 years short of its life expectancy).
      I apologize if I misunderstood the comment. If it's directed at the people who raise pigs for the sole purpose of force-feeding them, subjecting them to 6 months of separation from their families (they're fiercely herd-loyal, returning nightly to mothers who make their beds), and then slaughtering them, that's worse than stupid and greedy. You're being too kind.

    I ended up shocked at the size my mini pig became. Her name was Rigeletto, Riggy for short. We ended up being able to donate her to a small country zoo/farm. The vet that I had checked her out was extremely disturbed with how I had allowed her to get so large. If I had not found a good home for her where she would be put on a diet, he just might have claimed animal abuse. That’s scary. I caution all who purchase one of these adorable pets to do the research beforehand. My Riggy has a wonderful country home and is in much better health.

    Just generally speaking, it is important for people to know how big these pets will get not because they are heartless and hate them now that they have grown, but because depending on your situation it can really complicate things. Having a two hundred pound pet is a lot different than a pet that is only a few pounds.

So you're telling me that you're gonna spend a bunch of money buying a baby pig and all the stuff you'll need to raise it, then proceed to raise the pig into maturity only to then kill it for bacon? If you're gonna eat pork thats not from a grocery store or something it would be better to find someone who runs a farm that raises pigs.

      This is the sickest part of the western culture. Raising an animal in an unhealthy way for the sake of it being "cute". gross. Learn the facts, there's NO such thing as a "teacup" pig - they're potbellied pigs who are either underfed to stunt their growth or who are sold under false pretenses. Stop starving these poor animals, sick fcks.

    • @RightInFromDenmark
      @RightInFromDenmark Před 7 lety +9

      it's not just a western thing? it's a global thing. And just because they haven't bothered breeding their animals properly doesn't mean it's not possible to breed tiny pigs. We got a goddamned pug out of a wolf, we got the flag-pig out of a regular pig, we got broccoli out of a canal flower.... It's not impossible to breed a real tiny pig, but it's gonna take more than 20 years of breeding.

    The thing about a pet is that when you get one that's tiny, it grows with you. If you can't appreciate your pet from micro to macro, you're a worthless human being.
    I've got two cats that were strays, but they've since become accustomed to being with me and my family. Both are easily young-middle aged, but they've been with me a year or so and they've become irreplaceable members of my family. If I were to have had them as kittens and not abandoned strays, I'd feel like an adoptive father or something.
    Micro pigs would be no different. It'd be a loved walking ham sandwich to me from tiny to fat. Besides, how can you hate a pig? They're as cute as pugs; the ugliness is cute.

      They bought a micro pig expecting it to stay the same size and it didn’t. They probably loved the animal as much as any pet but sadly a small-ish pig isn’t good for a small house or apartment. There’s a huge difference between adopting a farm animal and a house pet.

    Even when talking about micro-pigs, "the truth" can be complex, elusive, complicated and controversial. If the remark concerns the "fact" of pigs tendency to grow faster than other animals, that does seem to be the case with potbelly varieties as well as their bigger livestock relatives. England does not seem to provide the room essential to most pigs' quality of life. Some remain small (around 50 pounds); but perhaps most "mini" or "micro" or "teacup" pigs will reach a very dense (close to the ground) 100 pounds. They thrive best in indoor-outdoor situations, and they often don't take well to a leash. They value human friendship and stimulation; but they also prefer limiting their toiletry and pig stuff to the outdoors (unless it's winter, when nothing can beat the warmth of an indoor room with lots of warm blankets). If you can't provide the animal the best of both worlds, it's probably best not to consider purchase a pig of any promised size (which is largely unpredictable).

    • @shuepsx652
      @shuepsx652 Před 5 lety +7

      It is very different, there is much more than size to consider when getting a pet. Pigs have different behaviour and needs than dogs. Besides, even the biggest dogs still weight half of what an average pot belly pig weights, which is the breed they usually sell as "teacup" "mini" "micro" etc....

    You can't just feed them and give them water and "that's it". She didn't mention that you NEED to have them fixed, you need to trim their hooves, you need to have them dewormed twice a year, they easily get sunburn, salt can kill them, and they very easily get mange (which is difficult to get rid of, and you yourself need to give them a shot). Pigs are a lot of work, do your research.

I’ve never ever seen any 30 pounds like what they try and advertise them as lol (Btw any pig under 300 is considered a mini and any under 100 a micro pig so lost “micro” pigs are technically mini pigs as they’re well over 100 pounds)

      Not entirely sure what kool-aid you are drinking however studies and papers proclaiming "humans are herbivores" are funded by organizations like PETA. Humans and primates have very VERY similar anatomies and they are omnivores. Swing and a miss, but I suppose that comes from someone who is brain washed. Can't debate anything with someone with a mindset like that, so it matters not what you say anymore.

    • @MoreGrievances
      @MoreGrievances Před 8 lety +3

      +Marty Reyes Since you have the attention span of the animals you eat I guess you're not going to read the studies which demonstrates we are herbivores. We have canines comparable to other herbivores. The sharp front teeth designed for cutting plants. Chimps are our closest relatives and they have long sharp canines used for defensive purposes rather than for eating and chimps are 99% vegetarian. Carnivores jaws go up and down only and do not chew their food swallowing large chunks whole. But humans jaws also move side to side and backwards and forwards for grinding same as other herbivores. Fact is humans are herbivores. Not even omnivores let alone carnivores and our small intestine is 10-11 times our body length compared to 3-6 times body length for carnivores and 4-6 times body length for omnivores. michaelbluejay.com/veg/natural.html That said, our ancestors did hunt animals to eat but they were faced with the dilemma of starvation, not abundance. We're in 2015AD not 2015BC, and in this age we don't have to rely on animal products to thrive. Instead our consumption of animals is literally killing us. More than that, it causes suffering, pain and destroys the environment.
