I am a serious tennis player and very familiar with The Code. Worst sportsmanship ever I have ever seen in professional sports. Serena's coach was called for coaching BECAUSE it was so obvious and egregious; most coaching is much more subtle and encoded and therefore not clear to the ump, and so the ump cannot call a code violation. But this coaching was plain to see for all. Ramos COULD have given Serena a 4th code violation due to her serious delay of play (it was Osaka's turn to serve as Serena continued to berate the ump for an extended time), thereby handing the match to Osaka. Imagine if Osaka had LOST due to this "big freeze" (akin to a timeout before a field goal attempt in football) caused by Serena! How unjust would THAT have been?! And Ramos would have been roundly criticized for NOT handing the match to Osaka for Serena's 4th code violation (delay of play!). Fortunately, Osaka did not lose, and it is very impressive that she kept her cool to finish the match. IF there is racism or sexism in tennis, that should be solved before or after matches, not DURING a match and not in this manner. Serena's behavior was extremely rude and unfair to Osaka AND Ramos. I don't care if she has been the center of the Universe for the past two years, pregnant, uncomfortable, losing sleep, whacked out hormones, etc. If you can't keep your cool in tennis, get OFF the court. Also, it was very hypocritical of Serena to pull the "mommy card" as there were millions of girls watching Serena be a terrible role model losing her cool. Serena owes Osaka and Japan a sincere apology to Osaka's face, complete with many DEEP bows. She also owes a sincere apology to Ramos. United States of NARCISSISM, and I am so sick of it in this country. I am also very weary of the "open season on men"; the man-hating is extreme in USA. Get a grip, people!

Being an American I am ashamed and angry of Serena . She is the perfect example of what Champions should not do . Yesterday her tactics of scaring her opponent failed . Naomi was very much in control of the match from the beginning. So Serena used her usual roaring . But she failed . She said she never cheats but camera was showing something different . Patrick was telling her to go forward near the net and she glanced at that . She should have just kept quiet and accepted the warning . But nooo . She preferred to just go on and on verbally with the umpire . I heard her saying to the umpire that she is a mother of a child now and she would never do what she is accused of . Camera doesn’t lie .Okay what abt breaking the racket Serena ? That’s shameful. Were u a teen that time and playing your first tournament ? Mothers don’t do that .Winning tournaments and millions made you a champion but not a kind respectful humble human . I m surprised to hear that you were fighting for women’s right . First behave Respectfully and humbly with your fellow players . Look at Federer .Real champions behave like him . He is a father too . I feel for Naomi . Serena just ruined her joy . It’s too late for you to improve on your behavior Serena when you are abt to lose . I don't think that Osaka is a better player than Serena. There were sone things that happened that were unfair and took her out of her game and head space to win. It was very unfair. Osaka didn't win. That game was taken away from her. Serena is a great player andcsome people are just looking for something to bring her down. Serena handled how she felt. She stood up for what's right. Im shocked that she finished the match. I would have waved to the crowd and left. It was absolutely terrible what happened to her and that man should never be apart of any game she plays in the future. She doesn't cheat and everyone knows it. also, I’m certain the umpire never used the word “cheating.” he issued a code violation for obvious (and later admitted) coaching... this is not the same as cheating. breaking a racquet is also a code violation, but is not called “cheating,” and had she been caught actually cheating by taking PEDs or excessively weighting her racquet or something she would’ve received a much bigger penalty than a warning for a code violation.
no one accused her of cheating, she made that insinuation herself.

How does Serena's coach using hand signals telling her to attack the net, breaking of her racquet after losing a critical game and badgering the umpire further women's rights in tennis? During her yelling at the umpire, she also said "you'll never work again at any match that I am playing". She should have been disqualified after that. She behaves the same way at the US Open whenever she is losing. It happened in 04, 09 and now. Hard to believe this is a role model for future tennis players. Do you have to agree with every decision a referee makes? No, but at some point you have to let it go regardless whether you think (!) you're in the right. You'll only dig your hole deeper and that's the case in any sports - be it soccer, football or tennis in this case. And sure, I'm also a Caucasian white male but it does not discredit the referee (or me) **per se** to point out a breach of conduct on a woman or person of color (not every criticism is explicable by sexism or racism, just straight-up facts).

Sports cannot, and will not ever be owned by a race or ethnicity.

Behavior of this sort is utterly reprehensible and disgusting and aught to be immediately shut down and severely condemned.

She tried to make this a sexosm issue by saying men say worse to refs, but that doesn't fly. As the commentators stated during the match, most players, men and women, don't badmouth the refs after they've already received their first warning, since they would lose a point. Williams, on the other hand, badmouthed the red after her 2nd violation, which wasnt smart at all.
