      But one thing that I dislike about it is that its not that loud when I compare with other Grandfather clocks. Maybe the glass construction is responsible for that.

      Damien Rodrigo really all the Howard miller clocks are pretty soft sounding. Compared to the sligh clocks and many other older brands we get through here they are extremely quiet. Miller has a model called the Stewart I believe, it plays ave Maria and ode to joy. With this clock if there is any other background noise you cannot hear it at all. The miller clocks are just bad about that.

      I have a few mantel clocks and wall clocks. They are super loud when compared with the grandfather clock that has a huge gong.

    Absolutely gorgeous clock. I might get one once I become rich and famous! Besides, I still have my grandparents' old 610-160.
    That said, if I do get one, I want to see if I can swap out the hourly strike with the tone off the 160. The one here, and in all other videos, sounds discordant and rough. I much prefer the mellow sound of the 160's strike.

    Here is something interesting I've noticed about the clock, there are lights on the right and left but none inside to illuminate the center. seems like there should be one there too?

      In my opinion, if they added a 3rd light in the middle, it would be too much, too much light. I replaced the incandescent bulbs that were in mine with 3 watt 125 lumens warm light LED bulbs and it's absolutely beautiful. I get compliments on it all the time with the way it puts off such a soft warm glow from within.

    I Have the Howard Miller Majestic, isn't yours actually the Majestic II. Mine DOES'NT haven't the glass on the very upper part on each side of the face, they're solid wooden doors that open to reveal the inner clockworks and mine is oak is the only differences between the now retired Majestic that I have and the current Majestic II that I think you're showing here as far as I can tell. And like you mentioned, very easy to switch out the incandecent bulbs and replace with LEDs. Bought mine new about 12 yrs ago or so for $4, 500 and havent regreted it one bit!

      I inherited this a little over a year ago when my uncle died. Although I love grandfather clocks, wouldn’t have purchased this wider curio type, I’d just go with standard single standing clock. My model number say 610-940 inside the clock, there are some notes too mentioning Broadmoar? Quite honestly I don’t know what it is but it’s identical 100% to this, wood, shelves, etc. my uncle was the type that would go big or go home. Any additional info anyone could share, please do.

      @@EmmaDee All Howard Miller Majestic Curio Grandfather clocks had glass shelves. Yours can't be a Majestic then, unless someone for some reason replaced the glass shelves with wooden ones.

    • @EmmaDee
      @EmmaDee Před rokem +1

      @@gunnerneikoify mine is identical to this, whatever it is. Inside the clock, it clearly says 610-940, glass shelves, mirror back, two lights at the top (left side and right side), you can adjust to silent, no strike, etc. a book I found mentions Broadmoar so not sure if that could have been something else he looked at. It has his name engraved on a little gold plate, and it reeks of Polo cologne from the 80's (that and some weed).

      @@EmmaDee Hi Amy,
      Yours is a Howard Miller Majestic Curio Grandfather Clock then for sure. And it is from the Broadmour Collection of Howard Miller Grandfather clocks. I'm curious, they made the Majestic and then after that they made the Majestic II before they completely discontinued the "Majestic" Curio Grandfather clocks. Is yours the Majestic or the Majestic II? The only difference between the two that I know of is that the two doors at the top of the clock on the right and left of the clock that open up and give you access to the back of the clock face and inner workings, on the regular Majestic those are solid oak doors and on the Majestic II they're glass doors that you can see through. Either way, didn't matter which one it is, when it was new, whoever originally bought it spent about $5000.

      James Smith I honestly have never priced out our hourly rate. Everything we do is by Job. $75 is probably about right. Figure 8 hours of labor on a overhaul for most clocks, when everything is done properly.

      How does the second hand work on a grandfather clock? Does the pendulum power it or does it move when the pendulum doesn't? Just curious-I really want one but can't afford it :)
