VF4 was interesting, as with poor sales of the Saturn in western territories, it marked the first time the series had come to PlayStation owners who'd grown up with Tekken, and the sales were incredible, and people were saying - wow - it's better than Tekken - like PlayStation fans were realising what Saturn people had known all along. That said, as a Saturn owner, it was so weird getting the PS2 game and finding you can't jump anymore, unless triggering a move that involves a jump. That completely threw me, and remains something I'll have to get used to! I mostly played Fighters Megamix - the Virtua Fighter and Fighting Vipers crossover with some VF3 embellishments - like Virtua Cop's Janet playing like Aoi from VF3, and also the escape button being used to have full 3D movement (mostly to dodge an incoming attack, or to move around an opponent to throw them from a particular position) - but still very cool!

I had a Dreamcast and had not yet bought into the PS2. However, when VF4 released I got a PS2 just for that game - and I was not disappointed! The whole feel and vibe of the game felt like it had gone into the stratosphere, starting right from that amazing intro!
VF4evo was also great but, I admit, they changed my main, Sarah, so dramatically that I wasn't too keen on it initially! 😅
I then got the PS3 for VF5 and, comparatively, I was left completely cold by it. I really wanted VF5R to release on PS3, however, we got 5FS later instead. Although FS was a considerable improvement over 5, unfortunately, it failed to reel me back in. By comparison, I spent a lot of time with 2, 3, 4 + Evo in the years prior to 5...

@@Louieneil96 ''Vale Tudo'' is a Brazilian martial art, and "Vanessa" is a common name in Brazil
Yes, '' Vanessa '' is also a popular name in the USA, but if she were from the United States, her fighting style would be MMA instead of Vale Tudo.

@@vcdecide Vanessa is a common name in many countries. There's no facts indicating she's Brazilian. Also, her surname Lewis is Germanic, not Latin.

@@AriesWarlock But Brazil is a miscegenated country, many of the Brazilians are descendants of Europeans, Asians, Africans, Indians ... therefore, the surname Lewis does not mean anything, because here you find Brazilians with surnames from different places in the world.
Phenotypically, Vanessa is like many Brazilians (except for white hair)
If you search, you will see that ''Vanessa'' is among the 10 most common girl names in Brazil

Some folks are making VF4 playable online in Flycast via Fightcade. That's awesome.

    VF4. Cool.👍😎
Vanessa in this game, is my favourite version of Vanessa too. Muay Thai stance and other cool things, not seen in later updates and entries.
After playing this and VF5 Final Showdown, I have to say this game is in alot of ways, better than Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown. I was surprised that Goh, Vanessa and alot of characters in Final Showdown, have alot of moves and throws removed in the game, and alot of mechanics are missing as well. It makes sense why alot of VF fans, didn't like Final Showdown so much, and stayed away from it. Hopefully they bring back all of the moves, throws and other things etc from all of the VF games, back into VF5 Ultimate Showdown. Because that might hopefully bring back, alot of the VF fans who left and didn't like VF5 FS. But the big question is, will sega do that?😧
    Anyway, good vid Sega.👍😃

the arcade mode and tutorial from EVO need to make a comeback. That would be such a huge draw for the more casuals crowd who are afraid to just get spanked by veterans all day in online play.

Although I spent 3x more time on Tekken 5 than I did on VF:Evo and Soul Calibur 3 those 2 games are my favorite fighters on the ps2. I played T5 as a teen but played VF Evo as a man….Future Tekken titles definitely copies what VF Evo did right. VF4 was most certainly innovative and fairly balanced as well!

Something I guess they omitted was Vanessa was originally introduced as a dual-style character who could use both Vale Tudo and Muay Thai in two distinct stances. But when Brad was added in Evo, the Muay Thai stance was dropped from Vanessa's move list and instead replaced with the Offensive Vale Tudo stance so she became a strictly Vale Tudo fighter.

The most innovative feature I remember on VF was in VF2 at saturn. We players could play one of the modes, I think it was the original mode, and we were ranked about our performance. But more interestingly, the CPU would learn our habits, both offensive, defensive, and counter-measures. In no time all chars would use your tactics against you, very funny stuff. But it required a memory cartridge for saving, since the file was too big for the console internal memory. I don't know if VF4 had this. But it sure had plenty of content.
Since this current version of VF5 is more a tease than a full fledged installment (considering it is more like a bonus for only one console), I hope all efforts are going to VF6.
