      It's because Wonder Woman is "white" as the petition itself stated, because having a "white" person represent anyone of a different skin tone is inherently wrong. Especially if that "person" bears clothing that displays a US flag motif. Because this "white" person doesn't know what it's like to be (choose skin color/race) and therefore has no right representing them.
      It's the same moronic argument most people involved in identity politics makes about anyone "white" speaking about issues regarding non-"white" people. That by dent of their "white" skin color/race they are inherently incapable of empathizing with anyone non-"white" and are thus somehow ineligible to speak or offer criticism.
      And these are the same idiots who fail to realize that if this argument holds true, then the argument that non-"white" people are inherently incapable of understanding "white" issues by dent of their non-"white" skin color/race and have no valid reason to speak about or criticize "white" people and their issues must also be true.

      andyt2k If people are actually interested in why, instead of just feminist bashing, the petition criticizes using "a character with an overtly sexualized image at a time when the headline news in United States and the world is the objectification of women and girls" instead of an actual woman.

    • @Ocudavidimvideooo
      @Ocudavidimvideooo Před 7 lety +28

      Supposedly it was Amazonian custom to wear the colours of a country they would visit, and since she was visiting U.S. (to return Trevor home)... It's a silly explanation, but hey, I can overlook that as long as she doesn't represent " truth, justice, and the American way" *puke*, seeing how nowadays 'american way' is just simple bullying other countries out of their resources, making conflicts to make money out of them (and then refuting refugees out of those countries they destroyed), and plain greediness. I dislike radical Islam (or any extremists, for that matter), but what U.S. government/corporate puppets are doing is going to bring the World War 3...

    WW was never meant to wield a sword. Marsden gave her defensive tools: the lasso of truth and the wrist gauntlets of protection. Her tiara was later adapted to also be a ranged weapon, but only so she could disarm men with guns.
    The sword and shield are contemporary. I think it's a good, sensible change. Still, one longs for simpler times.:)

    • @Skye_Writer
      @Skye_Writer Před 7 lety +5

      Actually William Mouton Marston (a.k.a. Charles Moulton)became convinced through his psychological work that women were more honest than men in certain situations and could work faster and more accurately. During his lifetime, Marston championed the latent abilities and causes of the women of his day.
      That does not mean, however, that he was not the Dominant in his polygamous relationship. Marston theorized that there is a masculine notion of freedom that is naturally chaotic and violent, and an contrasting feminine notion based on "Love Allure" that leads to an ideal state of submission to loving authority. He also wrote on the blossoming Men's Rights Movement as a newspaper columnist. And Olive Byrne, the woman who lived with the Marstons always wore a pair of large bracelets that Marston used as the inspiration for WW's bracelets. You might also not that in thos early stories in the 40's and 50's, every time time that WW was tied up in a way that bound her bracelets together, she lost her powers.
      Given the idea that a strong, powerful woman lost all her power and became helpless and submissive once her wrists were tied together means that Marston, although often promoting feminist ideals, was more than likely the Dom in the relationship, at least where Olive was concerned.

    The central idea that I gather for Wonder Woman is that she is the 'better generation'.
    In Wondie's Post-Crisis origin (which was perfect (fight me)), she was the child of a generation that had learned from its hardships.
    Now, she teaches people to learn from their own hardships, be they injustices or mistakes.

    The classic and most iconic version of Wonder Woman's origin story is that she was a clay statue given life by the Greek God's. Diana's immense powers were also a result of once again blessings of the Gods. The whole story of her being the natural born daughter of Zeus was one of the changes that DC made in the New 52. The New52 Wonder Woman is the route that they will be going with for the 2017 Wonder Woman movie so it kind of makes sense that this new retelling of her story is getting so much attention and publicity.

    I don't get how Wonder Woman is counted among the Big Three of DC. The simple fact is that she's just not that popular. Most non-comic readers know almost nothing about her unless they grew up around '77.

    • @AngelicOblivion90
      @AngelicOblivion90 Před 7 lety

      she is sadly a product of her time(WWII), a time were comic books were gender neutral and ageless, so anyone could read comics for entertainment. but after the second world war ended, comic books lost popularity with everybody except with young boys. so the reason she isn't as popular as other super heroes is because of cooties.

    • @travishimebaugh8381
      @travishimebaugh8381 Před 7 lety

      AngelicOblivion90 Probably doesn't help that the consistent elements of her backstory are so damned weird. Etta Candy, the exclusively-female civilization of martial pacifists living in a monarchy which fights for democracy (still trying to work that one out), the BDSM undertones, the somewhat incongruous themes of truth (Loki Agent of Asgard did it better), the _invisible plane_ , the pet kangaroo...

    Let me tell you something: that Wonder Woman movie everyone is waiting for - It's going to be a total FLOP(just like BvS). Wanna know why? Same reason why Valve won't release Half-Life 3 - extremely high expectations. When it takes too long to release a certain title,the hype and expectations for it build up over time,and high expectations means a VERY high chance of disappointing the audience. And DC fans have been waiting for those movies for a VERY long time. This is why Marvel is doing so well: They came out of nowhere without teasing their movies for a literal decade and nobody had any high expectations, so when they made a decent superhero movie for a B list character(Iron Man),they blew everyone's minds.

      Bro, I'm not even a wonder woman fan to all that. I much rather Jon jones, Superman and Deathstroke as my favs, but she's a good character and a very underrated one at that fact. Sure Batman has gotten the best of her, but don't act like she doesn't school him as well. Also, endgame characters were under mind control, so that's indeed a cheap win. Another one that's gonna burn bat fans is that bats has never won an actual cannon fight with superman. I understand your situation tho, you're a Batman fan and thus all other heros automatically become useless in your eyes. My Gf is a Batman fan as well. Might as well end the convo here because you lack the ability to acknowledge another character above your batgod. I'll just leave you with this. Any league member can take other the Justice league. Wonder Woman can, MM would have the most ease, Flash Could do it easily, Supes wouldn't need to blink, aqua man can do it, arrow can as well, not to mention Hal. They'd also need less prep time and less effort than your batgod. Keep wanking over him dude.
