Kona Honzo 2021 Hardtail Review (from a mechanics point of view)

- This is my opinion on the Kona Honzo Hardtail. Thanks for watching!
Often imitated, but never duplicated, the Honzo is a part of Kona’s foundation. The Honzo gets a geo update that slackens the headtube to 67 degrees and steepens the seat tube angle. With a Shimano Deore drivetrain, hydraulic disc brakes, and a long-travel adjustable dropper post, it’s a killer bike for the money. Squish is provided by a RockShox Recon RL Solo Air fork. Folding bead tubeless Maxxis rubber surrounds the WTB ST i30 TCS rims, providing proper grip on any surface.

I have 2017 AL/DL
It's so capable and versatile - I've ridden it at lift-access DH and bikepacking.
Highly recommended
I have the 2019 Honzo, excellent bike. I have thousands of miles on it by now, i use it to stay in shape riding around our many trails here. We have mostly very smooth trails here, that's why i chose a hardtail. Recommended if you're looking for a hardtail.
thanks for the comment
Thanks for this. I have a 2020 Honzo and have ridden it a lot. I did have to replace the cassette (then an SRAM NX-Eagle 11-50) in under a year as I spent too much time on the top cog, but other than that it's been great.
great to hear
Do the shins I deore breaks have the forward moving fonction? Like if ever you jolt out your finger or is it stiff?
It’s stiff, I think I understand your question.
Is the bottom bracket threaded or press fit?? thanks!
It’s a standard threaded bb in the frame
Hello, what's the biggest ring you can fit on the front?
hard to say, we have fitted a 48t on in the past. the limiting factor is the chain stay flaring out, you can over come this with a wider bottom bracket but the chain line is then off set.
so im going to say 48-50 tops
you will need a longer chain to suit but the rear mech wont be affected by the larger ring provided the chain is the correct length.
hope this helps
No iSG tabs for a bashguard?
no
I ordered one of these from my LBS in October and it keeps getting delayed 🙃 Appreciate the video! Liked and subbed.
Depending where you are in the world the uk shipments all come out of Germany and we have been seeing delays up to 2 months, it’s so hard to predict if the brand is accurately guessing or just throwing a dart at the calendar.
As a shop guy...be thankful you're getting one at all :) Specialied canceled 40 pre-sold bikes we had coming in the couldn't fufill.
@@icas80 I ordered it not expecting it before April. Just got it last week and its a hoot!
@@rated89 Gratz! Honestly...I find Kona has been one of the better companies for ETAs.
@@icas80 its so hard to tell what brands will actualy look after us bike shops
What is the weight of this Honzo (DL ?)
Mine in large is around 33-34lbs setup tubeless. She's a bit of a pig but dont notice it on trails.
I got mina at around 13 kg with a large rim
thinking about putting money down for 2022 expected delivery in spring
we would love to upload a review on 2022 honzo but we dont have any on order yet
Do you have a Kahuna you could make a video of please? and how do the Honzo compare to the Kahuna? Thanks
i have one left i will try get a comparison as its due to leave the workshop next week to its new home
Kahuna has a little longer “tail”. Chainstays are longer than the honzo
What is the max tire size for the rear?
I wouldn't be comfortable running more than a 2.5"
I just put 2.5s on my 2019 Honzo. Looks like it's about the maximum. Maybe a 2.6 will fit but the clearance will be microscopic.
@@Guovssohas thanks for the input.
Great bike, but is it worth the two grand?
What you can get in that price range to hit trails, yes.
@@Burrito23964 you can hit rails on a $600 bike
you missed the most important thing the frame lol
Ohh no what was it?
@@thefrothybikeco say that it is a thru axle both front and rear
If its not Scottish its crap
