Massive Storm on Dartmoor and the Snugpak Stasha G2 Tarp saves the day

- When I get caught out by a massive storm whilst doing some Bird Photography on Dartmoor the Stasha G2 Tarp by Snugpak comes to my rescue.
This is the worst weather I have experienced for some while and reinforces the fact you cannot take the weather for granted when you are in locations such as Dartmoor.
the importance of checking the weather forecast cannot be underestimated.

Hey Rich, how are you mate? Yes it was a little damp and breezy that morning but the Snugpak kit did the job. I actually managed to get a shot or two of the Stonechats too so they're pretty hardcore little birds. I met an old boy a few weeks ago who knew you and I believe your Mother...? He mentioned he knew you as I was photographing Peregrine's. He might have used to have worked for your family as a gardener? I might have got that wrong. Either way, he was a very lovely old boy and knew his stuff. Hope the family are well. You in Scotland now?

Ha! I've yet to experience a Scottish summer but I do reckon it'd be pretty spectacular. The gear was all fine thanks, plenty of dry bags in the rucksack. Thanks for watching 👌

Neat vid - I love the drama of being in storms sometimes. As long as it's not lightning, not sure how I'd counter that on Dartmoor! Which Tor was that?
It was certainly pretty dramatic at times. I'm pretty sure it's called Pil Tor. It's top of Widdecombe Hill, across from Rippon Tor.
On Dartmoor you could have come well unstuck, You should have carried a Gortex Bivi Bag, with your tarp and some Walking Sticks for shelter, Dartmoor lacks cover and Kills
Thanks for your comment Roy and yes you're right about the poles and bivvy. I normally have both when I'm walking, I use the Snugpak Special Forces Bivvy but as this tarp buttons down the side to create an emergency bivvy I didn't take both. I spend a lot of time on the Moor as live locally and agree with you about what you say about cover, I just didn't have the space to take everything so I feel what I did take did the job I needed it to do.
You were lucky it was mainly wet, not that windy. Otherwise the shelter would have been as useless as t*ts on a bull. Glad you kept smiling so to speak.
Yeah it was very much a "temporary" solution.....it wasn't the best shelter by any stretch but I was grateful for it all the same.

A Tarp is the most important camping tool you can bring.
It's certainly up there near the top John. What else do you always pack just in case?
@@TheDevonOutdoorsman A good pack size umbrella.For cold camping, 250ml rubber hot water bottle. Small sunn parabolic gas heater (price $30 only) very light. Fleecy liner for sleeping bag, adds great heat.Water proof socks. A good power bank. But that umbrella would of got you out there dry, i use the lifeventure umbrella, its sturdy and strong..
