- I visited Brechin City Football Club who could become the first team to be relegated from and then promoted back to the SPFL. They won the Highland League last season but narrowly missed out on promotion after a penalty shoot out v Spartans.

Will Brechin make it back to the SPFL soon?
Reckon it'll be EK this season...
Yes
Yea of course as i said
I hope so, it’s good for gate money when they play us in Montrose
Yes, they have cat karma on their side. It will be a purrfect rise to the top.
Yeah, I think Brechin were the first team to break the mould - literally as soon as they started their first Highland League campaign, it was obvious they were going to be title contenders. I'd say it's just a matter of when, rather than if, they go back up!
Was always one of my favourite away days Brechin with the famous hedge behind you. Quality.
I really enjoy these sort of video's. You show the broad spectrum of Football and that's great. Also thanks for showing us the viewer clubs that we have heard of but don't know much about. Keep up the good work Sam.
Brechin hosted the first ever game of Sevco Scotland ltd in 2012 .
Aye, Sevco are a curse
Your obsession with companies is concerning

Who won?

I feel there’s that too many clubs trapped in tier 5 of Scottish football that they are almost better leagues than league 2. Most teams that got relegated are doing really well this season except for Albion rovers (and also Clyde who are having a disaster season again).
I think if we had at least 12 teams in champ, L1 and L2 (I’d have 14 at least in Prem) then a bunch of teams that probably deserve to be in the football league would finally get here and hopefully make it more competitive. (It would also be better to have like 3 leagues of 18 but either way more teams need to be in the league)
Also the cat in the video was the best moment of footy adventures so far
You might want to have a look at the Lowland League table again as you'd see that the relegated teams are in fact not doing well - they are 12th, 13th, 15th, and 16th.
@@mboothy sorry don’t know if it was totally clear what I meant. I meant the teams doing well are likes of dundee United, Accies, Cove, Peterhead, etc. most teams that go down in the SPFL tend to go up or stay near the top. But totally agree with you teams that go out the SPFL totally struggle. As Sam said none have ever came back up
What a good guy Bob was.....loved his accent
Great video, Sam. Going back to Brechin myself next month and really looking forwards to it.
The famous hedge deserves to be in the SPFL!
What a fantastic club Brechin looks like. Definitely one for my travels. Ace vlog Sam. Really hope they get back to where they historically belong. As a half Scottish Blackpool lad (and supporter) I find the promotion / relegation system in the Scottish Leagues farcical. You win your league you must go up. And coming bottom of a division there can be no escape route. Ridiculous.
My friend was the kid that was interviewed lol 😂😂😂
Without a national league at Tier 5, I think it's fair enough that the champions don't automatically go up. Perhaps changing to the team in 42nd going straight down and the HFL and Lowland winners playing off against each other for promotion would be fairer in the interim.
Sam have you got any plans on visiting any of the Midlands League teams in the future? I’m from Dundee and would love to see it
seriously, cats at every grounds. I know there are some that are allergic, but they are such great helpers. lol.
Surely the league winners should be promoted regardless in every division. Might come across as arrogance as an English fan but I couldn’t imagine winning the league to then lose the game to get promoted.
No arrogance there. It’s a joke the way it is the now. The full Scottish league system needs reconstructed, it’s the lowere end of the table teams that are so against it
You’re absolutely correct. Our leagues really need reorganised. There should be several Highland / Lowland leagues, merge the junior football leagues in
In theory teams like Harrogate and Sutton who recently went up from the 5th division would have been denied promotion to League 2, due to them previously having a 4G pitch
There’s two bottom leagues highland and lowland leagues the two league winners play eachother in a two leg game to decide who go up to the football league
Yes, should relegated the bottom two in league 2
Brechin City...the club with cats!
Love it.
It's a ridiculous tier-system that screws any clubs which are badly-run and managed or just accumulate sheer bad luck! Interesting to see these grounds. Keep up the good work!
That´s how a pyramid system works mate...
@@AlFrazelle And? It's just ridiculous that only one team gets promoted from both divisions. So it means trans are stuck in that division
Hi mate been following your videos for a while now you where still living in England I am an Everton Season Ticket holder but have followed Brechin for more than 35 years so I wasn't best pleased with you when I found out you are a Kopite and also with your connection to Kelty Hearts when they kicked Brechin out the league but I have softened since then and am looking to get up to see Brechin for the first time and watch them get promoted this season
One of the best days out in Scottish football. My partner got a foostie pie when we were there though. Good to see they've improved 😂
Peterhead was the first place Rangers wemt when they went down to the 3rd division, they got beat as well
Love your videos, keep it up ma man 😊
It's a shame that the SPFL don't include more clubs in their leagues. It would make Scottish football more interesting for people living outside the UK to follow.
And for supporters of the teams themselves ;)
It was so good to see u last night
Love the kid ultra section
Brechin city i think should win highland League this season 😊
Could you go on the highland League podcast to talk about the League and Scottish football? 😮
Alongside attend a Nairn county match as they win the north of Scotland cup against Ross county recently :)
Edit update
Thank you Sam for going to this
Come on buckie
Must say, as a Thistle fan, I was happy to see Brechin relegated into the HL after the covid fiasco and them essentially voting to save themselves but to demote other teams. Don't mind if they go up again now though...
Nah, I'm happy for them to stay where they are. At least other Highland/Lowland teams want to improve and get up the leagues. Brechin are just bottom dwellers.
@@GrandSlamScotty To be fair, they were in the championship not too long ago. Though I do like to see ´new blood´...
I’m sure there was a team who were denied promotion because the new rangers started from division 3..
Wish the Palmerston main stand was as clean and tidy . You need a shower after sitting in the old Queens stand .
Highland league doesn't get the credit! I seen Inverurie v banks o'dee a month ago! Heading back to Inverurie in January
Nearly at 200k well done big man. But when are you coming back to firhill
You should go to the highland league cup final next weekend at Inverurie.
That’s no William Wallace, it’s Mel Gibson 😂
The main stand reminds me of when you went to Glentoran.
Elgin is also a City. Due to the cathedral.
It’s a farce that the champions have to go through a play off. Sort it out.
Mon eh Brechin 🇵🇪
Was lucky someone had 50p for the meter!
I often wish Elgin was back in the Highland League because the crack was better.
The only part i hate about Brechins stadium is the distance from the big stand too the pitch. Just a big grass mount behind the nets..other than that looks a tidy wee ground
I hate it when it’s like that, Cambridge another one, literally a waste of space
for the sake of scottish football, if brechin win the highland league then they NEED to beat the east kilbride franchise in the playoff
I’m in England
Why do a few hate East Kilbride?
Thank you for reply 😊

Can u please do an other video on my club Dundee FC and maybe even go to a game
Why wasn't that new stand constructed nearer the pitch? Or maybe it should have replaced that tiny, diddy little ''main'' stand?
Diddy little main stands, sometimes have character though!
I think the SPL should be fixing teams, getting promoted and relegated from the top league to the bottom league and fix the way the SPFL works and make it good again because it is just getting boring to be good for everyone because you get into the playoffs and you have to play the team and the next league above you to get promoted. That is just silly why do we just not do what the EFL do just in a small standard that would work SPFL are you listening?
I assume the money they get from their sponsor is deposited in a hedge fund.
🤣🤣🤣
😂 👏 ✌️
Any chance you can go to clubs you haven’t covered?? Maybe fife clubs since you have covered none?
In order to be a city, a place DOES NOT need to have a cathedral!
A place is designated as a city by receiving a ROYAL CHARTER!
From the mid 16th century until the late 19th century it DID though.
That said, Brechin, despite its cathedral, is not officially recognised as a city.
👍
Feet of the seats please!
Brechin didn't get promoted last season thanks to the rule the voted in favour of. No sympathy... their short sightedness to vote for self preservation has now turned to bite them.
They will win the Highland League this season, but another play-off defeat for sure. East Kilbride are buying their way through the Lowland League and will be too strong over 2 legs.
The Scottish pyramid system is a joke , there are better teams in the west of Scotland second tier , two divisions below the lowland league that has some dross .
Least it's an improvement on the closed shop it used to be . East Stirling finished bottom of D2 year after year , safe in the knowledge there was no relegation .
Both league winners should go up
