I live about a mile away from this bridge, used to ride my dirtbike on that trail, never thought I’d be passing someone’s home. Always be grateful for what you have as life can change in a heartbeat.

To the business class, homeless people can serve as a motivator to the working class, as to what happens if they step out of line. It is a way to keep people in check.
It is true that too many homeless people can be a burden for the business class, but they can also be a tool.

Shelters suck, and homeless people frequently abuse other homeless people. I’ve been homeless before, and I speak from experience. In order to not get the “homeless person” stigma, I kept myself clean, got a job, avoided other homeless people, and lived in my car. People will be more likely to help you if you are not unkempt.
That said, I hoped everything worked out for all of those people, as everyone deserves a home.
Good for you. $10 a month for a planet fitness membership and you can shower all you want.

But if I got prideful & egotistical, I'd rather use those qualities for where they count. But id be lying if ppl who walked up to me asking for hand outs didn't make me mad. I've seen more than once, families asking for things. & I'm not sure if that's a gimmick. But what I am sure of, is there's def assistance for those type things. Idkw ppl don't tell them these things. Usually I'm on the traveling go when I see these types tho
Sleeping in the car feels so much more safe and easier to travel in when the time comes and less fuel etc

Then it ll be “Those poor people - someone should have helped them!” And every relative that didn t care enough will come crawling out of the woodwork to sue everybody involved that let them live under that bridge.
Kathleen Overton: That is one shitty bridge if it collapses partially because someone shoved some scavenged wooden pallet parts under it. Now, if every homeless person in that vicinity decides that they want to help found a tree house city under that same overpass, then maybe that might happen. Also, it's not as easy to bring a wrongful death suit against a city government as you seem to think, especially by fourth cousins or the like.

Felix Blackwood Not even sure what you mean by fourth cousins. And I never said they shack would compromise the bridge. I said if the infrastructure collapsed. And before you think that s far off the cuff - right in my town that exactly happened as a tractor trailer truck was driving over a bridge here causing the truck to go off the side killing the driver. And still there’s all the garbage they just throw around under there and a question still remains of where exactly do they go to the bathroom. My daughter lives in LA and she tells me that they just squat wherever even on public sidewalks and parking lots. Pretty gross and a health hazard.

A good way to look at it is when people ask you about the homeless problem you tell them it's a society problem and I am a member of society so it is my problem and or our problem to see if they agree with you,, usually that's such a mind blower for the straight lace the Democrat they can't handle it and will not want a relationship with you after that
Many of the homeless can help themselves by getting a job as well so go blame those that are not that helpless and can go to work just like others.

Nah doesn't work that way...they were offered bed at the centers they refused...you have to understand that their loft could affect the integrity of the bridge we don't know how many wholes the made on the post and beams of the bridge just to create that loft

People in the US don't have shelters to go to, just concrete boxes with one giant floor, and its a year and a half wait for a spot at the minimum (I got on my feet after 2 years of being homeless since 2019, and I only got accepted into my local shelter after I had already gotten an apartment) as much as you'd like to believe that the world's cares enough to help, they don't. If they did, there wouldn't be homeless people at all, they'd have a place

@@samfazers8818 local salvation army near me is completely free, they only have so many spots available and it's for extreme weather but they also offer breakfast and lunch for free. I would know. I utilized those services myself when I was homeless
i had a friend who told me he lived under a bridge in new Orleans for three years. He was a vet, black and gay, and an addict. He was spiritually sick. When he finally got into AA, he got sober, and within five years was up and running, had purchased a house, had a car and a relationship and was involved in AA and a church. More importantly, he was living happy, joyous and free.
The person that build that loft definitely have some construction experience. Maybe some one will give him or her a job

the key is to build hidden and out of sight... i have converted an abandoned war shelter for my friend who become homeless... The entrance was through a metro vent... he lived there quite comfortably for years until he got a job again...

I was a homeless heroine attic for years and I built this exact same loft Mine was not as wide But the bridge was built exactly the same way the columns were just closer together I used the metal posts from street signs from street signs And I covered the front with chain link I could literally lock the door .

That's a good idea man....we have a nice river nearby and used to make lovely cubbies as kids there...but if you lived there on condition that you cleaned it and rubbish picked as a council job or something...it could be a perfect way out for some...

When homeless create little houses for themselves they always make one mistake. Piles of garbage strewn all over which is an eyesore and that offends the average citizen and it becomes the authorities obligation to clean it up. Would you be okay if somebody was making a pallet home next to you? Everybody feels sorry for the homeless until the homeless are in their front yard. Anyone who pays Rent is homeless just temporarily not. And if you own a home do you pay taxes on it every year? Is it really ever your's? Why not get a big RV and really be free? I was homeless once, still am technically, but when I legitimately was on the streets I still used a trash can because I see Earth as my home so the ground is like the floor where trash does not go. I've slept under alot of bridges when I hitch hike and always thought of doing this. Plenty off room. I'd hang my hammock up with 2 pairs of vice grips and sleep

I was homeless for a few years, it was a profound experience. Part of that life I saw haunts me sometimes. I now have my own business, a home, wife and kids. Life is very good. These people are not stupid, most are addicts. Once you conquer the addiction, your skills and life itself, become self evident. Adversity breeds strength, and confidence.

@@kiloton1920 I saw two diff people die in in front of me. One man, we traveled together for a while, I came back to camp one night only to find him hanging from a tree. He shat himself himself,and his tongue was hanging out, and swollen. His eyes were open wide. ( his feet were aImost touching the ground, only 3 inches)I see that image now, as if it was yesterday. Cop told me that’s what happens when you hang yourself, the rope stretches after a while from the weight,some people, they find on there knees. The other was a young man who was extremely high on meth, we had been traveling together with a man woman couple for about 2 weeks ( there is safety in numbers) he started seeing things. Someone called the police on him . They came, after a long standoff, he was hiding in the woods. he pulled out a knife, and started running towards them, screaming... they shot him multiple times. I saw it happen from a distance. It was a horrible thing to see, he didn’t die right away,that’s the worst part, his screams..his agony,calling for his mama as he died in the woods. Alone.
Then there was jails, many jails, and I even went to prison for a 3 years. ( battery, high and aggravated nature ) that’s a whole other experience in itself. There is more. Enough for now.
I was homeless also have a home n a family now. Wasnt addict to anything tho. Got dealt a shit hand n kicked out when I was 18.. worked 2 jobs n got my ass of those streets. You are right tho most folks I knew were addicted to some kind of hard drug.
I’m homeless and completely clean and sober. I left my childrens father because he became abusive after we had our children and even though I had money saved and a job I didn’t meet the minimum requirements for most apt complexes. Literally one turned me away because I made $60 less one month than what they accepted as their minimum.. lol. So now I’m hoping and praying this shelter takes my kids and I in. It sucks cause they prioritize addicts and people battling mental health crisis (Their words not mine).. everyone in the middle is forgotten. I’m not mentally ill.. I’m not on drugs .. I just don’t make 3x the rent in California so here I am.. without a home. I have been looking into leaving Cali because they don’t care about people needing a home. If you don’t make enough to pay your rent three time over you won’t have even a decent life.
@@groundedinsunshine3848 My prayers, and heart goes out to you. California is a tough place to live, expensive and there has been a home shortage for a while now. I think leaving there is an excellent idea IMO. Life is much cheaper in other places. I live in the South East. Atlanta suburbs. You can rent a 3 bedroom house, with a yard and fence lot for $1000 a month. My mortgage payment on my house $1050 a month.8 more years left to pay it off. My house is worth 328K, I bought it for 160k 9 years ago. Average income per year here is 52K. That’s a grand a week, easy to make that her in the food industry even. I really hope you find a place for you and your children. You are stringer than you think, you are a power house, and to be reckoned with. Remember that. God made you, and your are special. This experience will help you in the long run, it will build a character in you that few find in a lifetime, because it requires suffering.

I see these makeshift structures popping up all over Sacramento . Literally on residential streets. Not just tents but structures made of wood and pallets with doors and everything. Especially on fruitridge and Stockton blvd
Their already on the streets. When you ask them to leave where are they to go?
Imagine being in a burning building and the firefighter wants you to pay them before they rescue you. Or what if they wanted to drug test you and wait until the lab sends them results in the week to finish the rescue? Or what if they forced you to sit in a fire safety class while the building is burning down around you?
The analogy doesn't quite work as well as you thought, does it.

You pretend that you know about what a homeless shelter is, but you don't. You act like these people can just get a job really easily, but they can't. Its not that simple.
With homelessness there's a few issues that they have to deal with that you have in your pocket without trying.
Take for 1, you have an employment record that doesn't have gaps, any gaps you do have can be honestly answered, while they have to say "I couldn't find another job"
2 you have an address, imagine going up to a prospective employer and informing them that you don't have an address. Just that alone can be a chance killer, and what do you do... lie? Give them a fake address and hope that mailing isn't necessary and they don't Google your address and figure out it's a McDonalds?
3 you have an address, so you can easily get forms of identification like a drivers license, or state issues ID. You can also get a bank card mailed to you, or a new one when that breaks. You can receive mail that you will need to get a job, what can they do... ask a gas station, Wal-Mart or McDonald's to accept mail like that for you?
4 you have access to plenty of sleep and a shower with clean clothes. To many homeless people clean clothes is synonymous with new clothes, a shower is a pipe dream, and a good nights sleep is likely napping for 30 min at a time in different places before a cop shows up to move you to your next napping spot.
5 you have social skills being exercised daily, as a homeless person you are likely to avoid people, as your smell alone is enough to upset people. So you avoid people, even if you get cleaned up to present at an interview, your ability to actually communicate well is going to be struggling as a homeless person. Add in the social anxieties that usually caused the disconnect from family in the first place. They feel no self worth as society looks down on them, they have likely been betrayed, or have felt that they've been betrayed and thus developed trust issues. Take that into a job interview and try and make a good impression.
Then take those trust issues and have somebody you hardly know offering you help that isn't immediate and final. Why would you turn them up, in their eyes the firefighters may well have started the fire in the building just so they can rescue them so they will be indebted

"Nowhere to go, no one to turn to, no help anywhere" and then help arrives and they say "no thank". Shelters surely aren't paradise, but they are a stepping stone. Living under a bridge is not going to lead anywhere but down, if it's possible to go even further. "Living free" is never free. We all pay for it.

We own a large piece of property in town up on a 60'Cliff.the peddlers and homeless beggers on every street corner in a small town in rural WV started to set up camp on our out of sight out of mind property. we told them in the spring of last yr they could stay on the far back corner as long as they were clean about it and wouldnt bother any of the realtors or buyers, a month later we go up there to meet with the power company and those dirty homeless, drug addict,thieving, vandalizing ass bums busted all the windows out of every piece of equipment including our dump truck that we told them to put their trash in the back of it to keep the place clean. I put no trespassing signs up all over every point of entry and everywhere in between and they would take them down, so I started putting them up with a ladder which slowed them down on removing them. They would leave when they would see one of us unlocking the gate a half a mile away so we could never catch them. They had needles, empty alcohol containers, stolen goods from the mall, purses with people's cards and keys everything they got their non working dirty ass hands on was up there. So I took a friend and a dozer and track hoe one evening and dug a huge hole and took the dozer and pushed there whole nasty camp in it and buried it with police escort. These people can't be helped they just take and take. If they can buy drugs and alcohol then they can get a room.

A lot of homeless people don’t go into shelters because they refuse to stay off drugs. In my area there are tons of beds but tons of homeless because they won’t follow the rules. They have these outreach programs and people that come directly to them and provide them with food and water, they make shelters, pee and take craps wherever they please, leave mountains of trash everywhere they go but cry for help. There is help, most don’t really want help, they want everything for free.
@@trisha56238 i think some people won't stay in shelters for fear of losing the few belongings they have. One in my area doesn't even have any storage space for bikes, so people risk losing the only mode of transportation they have by staying there as they would have to leave it outside. They can put locks on them, but a pair of bolt cutters and 5 seconds and it's gone.

Homeless shelters suck and the rules are freaking ridiculous. Most make you get up at 5 or 6 in the morning then you have to clean and then you usually can eat breakfast and then you got to be out by depending on the shelter between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. and you're not allowed to return until usually 5 or after 5 I've stayed in them before and they are ridiculous and the services they offer aren't usually as great as they're making out they are. I can see why people would rather live under the bridge.
When a better alternative to a homeless shelter is prison, you quickly realize why nobody with a brain goes near there.

Building more houses is not always the best thing to do, a lot of homes are empty cuz few people can afford to live in them. That is a real problem, and we should try to inhabit these places before building new.
In the Midwest US a lot of nice homes are abandoned and left to rot because people cannot afford to live in them, so the gov is condemning them and breaking them down

Rube Clayton , I hear you! my son and i became homeless in Hawaii, due to them raising our rent 3× plus my SsDi pending going on 3 years fighting for it and the loss of my husband. We ended up in a shelter which is run with staff whom think its a prison, abusive to us and alot of overt and subversive threats to instill fear and intimidation! i can see now why alot of homeless in Hawaii would rather stay out of shelters!

I'm facing homelessness. No drugs or alcohol or gambling or any addictions. Its called living on disability. Had to go on it at age 45. So payments are below poverty. Have family. But no help. One I stopped talking to 8 yrs ago. The other, in a small home, took in our niece and her father along with her boyfriend. The 2 can get an apt. But take advantage of my "doormat" brothers generosity. I'm living in a nonfamily home caretaking a senior. My health worsened 3 weeks ago. One day soon being here is over. Only my young friends do I have to live with. I need physical help. I can do things for myself, but limited in how long to do it. I wirked hard. Had a dozen layoffs. Each one set me back to square one. So, not everyone is homeless due to addictions or mental illness. Shelters assume you are one or all of that. If there was simple affordable housing, I'd have a home.

@@jason4832 it's very hard to get social security disability here in the US, if that's where he is from. Most people that apply get denied. The only person I know on it has severe Schizophrenia and maybe gets $1000/month. Definitely not gonna be something you can really live off of, the person I know only exists because they live with a parent.

I have homeless friends that are physically fit and smart. They refuse to work, pay bills or be responsible. They still want to bum money daily and drink and do drugs and breed.

whoever built that could definitely get a job in construction. they should contact the builder and help connect him to a job. that would be the compassionate thing to do. it's sad they're tearing that down though. it's not in the way of anything or causing any harm. that's just heartless when someone is clearly trying to make the best of their situation. 😞
