I have used enough normal nuts and bolts to say that you need to unwind it, sometimes this needs a little or a lot of force, But you should try jiggling the two bolts and seeing while jiggling you can reset the thread. Forcing it does not garentee your puzzle will ever work again it often tears the thread on the real nuts.

You basically have to do it in reverse order to resemble it. The only thing done differently is you must position the two nuts near the middle (but not too close to each other) so you can slide the puzzle together once you find the right combination.

knew it just didnt think it was right, the only other way is to jump threads which would wreck it. so i was a bit leary really appreciate the solution

And when the gravity technique doesn't work? Knuts lock every few millimeters without being in the right spot.

Best explanation on youtube. Others ask you to line up letters - which I think is too ad hoc.

I was able to decode this puzzle using a very thin copper wire, about 2/1000 inch thickness. By looking at the puzzle and studying how the parts move (and before watching this or any other video) I could reason out that there must be parts of the 2 nuts' internal threads that are not continuous, or zones where the internal threads are MISSING. Therefore, I pushed the wire between the threads to find the places where each nut's internal threads were missing. Then I rotated each nut to the spot where the thread gaps lined up with the visible joints in the bolt, and was able to open the puzzle. Once you know how the puzzle is put together it's much easier to solve. I found Radix much more difficult than Nut Case, because this one is reducible to logical points that you can think about even while you can't literally SEE them in progress, but since they conform to the predictable and regular pattern of machine threads, it is a simple matter to keep them in mind, whereas Radix involves complex, changing curves that are very challenging to keep in mind all at the same time.

I had no idea there was a nut in it until I took it apart I heard you say something about a nut but I didn’t really concentrate on it

For crying out loud. They're nuts. Not bolts. That's why it's called the Nut Case. Nuts. The main body is a bolt, or two if you like. The two moving bits are nuts.

When trying to put it back together the words are for some reason always reversed - case above nut instead of nut above case. It closes fine, but just my perfectionist side gets irritated that they're not in correct order. How does one fix this?

Supposedly it's also supposed to be able to spell Case-Nut, it's the third part of the puzzle according to a paper that came with the puzzle, I did it on a video😀
