      They wish! Loud, soppy and unbelievable howling. SOO American really, and not a good thing. The ABBA girls are the best harmonising singers EVER, and the Bangles are the best all-group females to sing together, otherwise the best voiced females are those that DON'T front bands, or rather their bands are their backing band. In other words-Kim Wilde, Kate Bush, Terri Nunn of Berlin, Anna De Cazio of Cock Robin, Sarah Brightman when she does pop albums, Maggie Reilly, Marie F of Roxette, Sheena Easton, Belinda Carlisle, Sandra, Claudia Brucken, Carol D of T'Pau, Julieanne R of All About Eve. Power is different to making NOISE just for the sake of it. And better songs help!

    This song is amazing, one of her best. I miss that 80's powerful wall of sound a lot of songs used to crescendo up to. This one has it in spades...... I start getting goosebumps at 2:39 and it pays off when it hits its apex at 3:05.....those drums kicking in? Pure 80's rock. Love it. Miss it.

    • @kyachdistent1301

      Yep and the UK had most of the best acts and the best women. Check out Kim Wilde, Sandra, Kirsty MacColl and Bangles too (the latter and Pat are two of the best too few US acts).

    • @kyachdistent1301
      @kyachdistent1301 Před 4 lety +1

      @RetroGamer 64 Are you? What are you talking about. Tina Turner is naff as is Heart. Why am I gonna mention rubbish acts like them? Pat was mentioned, as like Bangles, and the few other US artists that matter, her music owes far more to the Brit New Wave sound than wretched US hard rock, and nothing like that appalling power ballad Heart sound, nor the howling hag vocals and insipid and committee churned out fake rock of Turner. Stevie Nicks was great, I grant you, but that was a long long time ago. And you mention Heart and Turner before the likes of Blondie, Belinda Carlisle, Pretenders, Voice Of The Beehive, 'Til Tuesday and Berlin?! YOU'RE the smoked one, or should be!

    • @kyachdistent1301
      @kyachdistent1301 Před rokem

      @@seekah1 I do know. Nothing she ever did (AND she never writes anything herself which says it all) was amazing. Admittedly some of them are okay as far as obvious, unchallenging and drippy material that most anyone could write goes, but add that awful style-free caterwauling, cavewoman bawling she does and it just kills it. I've heard a few of these songs sung by other people of the 80s and while they can NEVER be called great songs, if even good, they're at least competently sang. Or sung by a normal voice. Turner has one of the worst voices I've heard from the 80s, right up there almost with Chaka Khan's lousy one. Sadly these women just don't want/can't sing properly. Thankfully there are many women around in the 80s who do. Fine and unique is something I can adhere to a raft of fine 80s singers and lead singers from band-Turner would NEVER be one of them. Much of her fan-base is simply sired by how bad she had it with her 1st husband and fine, but that's nothing to do with the music, which should be judged on its own terms and by voice! Well I do and it's BAD!

      Co-written by Nick Gilder, it was the second single from Wide Awake in Dreamland. It did not make the Hot 100 and only minor charted in UK (#42), New Zealand(#48) and Canada (#63). Even in Australia where the lead single, All Fired Up was a big #2 hit, this was off the radio after a couple of weeks and peaked at #61, which I thought disappointing. In Australia ,Toni Childs' identically named song had entered the charts a couple of weeks before and was a #17 hit.

    Who's to say that a "full blown female rocker" can't be a complete woman, who at times, (and yes, even sometimes at the same time), presents a "girl scout" image and a "tough feminist" image? I think that's part of what makes Pat so appealing to so many and why she continues to enjoy such longevity even today, 30 years on. I mean, could you imagine her still trying to wear leather outfits and being that? At some point, it no longer works and you can become a caricature of yourself.

    Her label was starting to implode; they basically did zero marketing for the WAIDL tour; it was by chance I was listening to the radio and they had an advert for her concert and bolted to get tickets. At North Texas State University Coliseum. I was front row. If they marketed she would have been at Reunion Arena which is where I saw her other concerts.
