      Preach.
I also wonder how Nike ever got away with air cushioning because Karhu introduced it before the Swoosh.
Nike didn’t believe in their properties enough to protect them prior to Bape - That’s kinda telling too.

      @@NachoAverageFinds you’re too generous.
Bowerman, himself, said he “borrowed” from the two best Onitsuka shoes to “improve” the original Cortez.
Knight brokered the distribution deal. He’s more than 50% guilty of taking advantage of the situation although he claims he only did it because Onitsuka was a bad supplier. I guess it’s easier to criticize when you’re not the creative genius.

Both got to have a same shoe, Onitsuka, now Asics was planning to release a shoe like this with name Cortez, the then brand new Nike was making own shoes like the Nike Moon Waffle, Moon Waffle spike, a more basic Nike all around sport cleat, and a crappy older low top version of the Nike Rebound was asked about selling the shoes via Knight and Bowerman and Bowerman told them no as they and went first with the shoe stealing the name idea as well, then Onitsuka, now Asics had its shoe they tried to make but Nike tried to sue to prevent Onitsuka, now Asics from selling its model of shoe and when it was found that Nike had stolen the design, they came up with a compromise Nike got the Name and Onitsuka, now Asics they got to keep making its pairs under a new name as then Onitsuka, now Asics changed shoe name just enough to Corsair. This Cortez was also the first model sold in USA/North America that was not sold though Phil Knights first company, Blue ribbon Sports they had yet to change the name officially of the company to Nike.

I always wondered why while Warren Lotas and others were getting sued by Nike, Bape sat unscathed. Sure they finally got sued later but I was always curious why Nike let the Bapesta slide for over 10 years. Cuz they were the first to do it on a big scale? Cuz they were big brand already? Many of my neighbors back home work for Nike, Columbia, Adidas, and Under Armor. In 2016 Nike made the uniforms for Army team of the Army Navy game. They chose to honor the 82nd Airborne in the uniform design. As a former paratrooper of the 82nd Airborne Division I really wanted one of the jerseys since the mass produced version used my regiment’s logo. When my neighbor found out that I wanted one, he secured two for me and left them on my porch on my birthday in 2017. My neighbors always hooked me up with free gear or passes to purchase gear at employee stores. I’ll always rep my home brands.

Back in the early 2000s I bought several Bape sneakers based on the Air Max design. They also cloned the Converse Superstar and Chuck Taylor's. I think it just started out as a tongue in cheek brand, centered around the catch phrase A Bathing Ape, which referenced the lazy youth of Japanese society that took inspiration from American culture of lost youth, graffiti art, skate culture and hip hop. The brand was exclusive back then due to being worn by rappers and collabs with Kanye & Pharrell. They even copied American Express cards by offering green & gold membership cards in the Amex design. The cardholders were given exclusive rights to buy merchandise only available to members who had to be Japanese citizens which were verified by a Japanese address and bank account. Many American G.I's stationed in Yokohama or Okinawa who had Japanese girlfriends were able to buy the highly sought after clothes & sneakers that foreigners couldn't purchase.
Nowadays Bape's glory days are far behind as rappers have stopped wearing the brand but they still heavily clone other brands including the Bapex watch which is a carbon copy of a cheap looking iced out Rolex.

I think I’m on the side of Nike, I mean I feel like the brands that take the silhouette and just add a different logo and heel tag text should be punished, it’s lazy honestly, like others don’t try to change anything truly. Now if the silhouette changed or the upper design was changed total then it would be fine, like a bapesta it’s the same silhouette as a AF1 but with and different upper design would be ok, but no it’s just lazy “customs”

I love Nike. But I also love Japanese culture, beyond streetwear. If you put a pair of Bapestas right next to pair of AF1s, the quality in the Bapestas are light years better. There’s just no competing with Japanese craftsmanship which is why I feel Nike is reluctant to proceed in trying to settle any lawsuits with Bape.
In all honesty though, ever since Nigo’s departure from Bape, the quality and creativity in the products haven’t really appealed to me. His Human Made line is more in line with his (and my) more mature street style. I’ll leave Bape for the kids.

A lot of brands shoes were sued recently for claiming to use the same Flyknit material in the upper. This includes most brands using a strategic mesh upper that looks similar to the Flyknit pattern but often uses own materials not even close to the Flykint upper. The sueing covers some brands that use a similar technique to get the upper made but are a totally different material as well as a different upper pattern. I mean one of the dumber of these was claiming the ASCIS, formerly Onitsuka the upper on the DS Trainer 23 when that debuted last year was the same as the Flyknit upper on one of the Free models but this was found to be a different material though the weave was similar to the Nike the pattern was not becuse of some materials used on the toe section that are not like Flynkit upper. The other major suing was the Nike Ripstop upper that actually Nike is stopping suing for after Nike people found out the shoes upper was stolen from Adidas in the Adidas Bounce models when those first debuted in 2012, they determined only this from Nike suing is that both Nike and Adidas get to keep making their uppers so it was a waste of time.

    • @sneakerprofiler
      @sneakerprofiler Před 7 měsíci +1

Nike was also unsuccessful trying to sue adidas for Primeknit. adidas first sued Nike in German courts and won because adidas has drawings that predate anything Nike has for records. adidas was unsuccessful in the U.S. because Flyknit is different enough to Primeknit for both to exist - and Nike changed its patent. Then, Nike tried to stop adidas making Primeknit and even suggested adidas owes royalties. Nike lost its knit lawsuits against adidas.
it's refreshing to read many people are aware of these innovation fantasies coming out of Nike HQ. Nike marketing is incredible, and Nike makes good products. But Nike is nowhere near as innovative as its marketing machine would have us believe it is.

Please do a video on how AND 1 and The Shaq brand get away with it. I’m sure of the brand actually. But it’s the knockoff’s at Wal-Mart I’m talking about. Do they have to pay Nike some kind of royalty?

The Nike vs Lululemon thing is funny. Nike definitely "borrowed" Lululemon-like materials for their athletic wear and copied the yoga-pant-like fits. If Lululemon makes shoes that look different but have a similar material, then Nike really has no case.

Well, they have patents. You need to protect your patents or it will be dismissed after 10 years. So Nike is suing everyone infiringing there design patents in order to keep there patents and make money of em.

Everyone copying AF1’s need to step their game up. Like cmon. 3 panels on the side profile. Toe box with identical ventilation. Shape. Sole. Stop it.
If companies actually designed different shoes then maybe someone will actually hit with their own iconic design. For example, Shell Toe Adidas, Adidas Allstars, Converse. Like cmon yo, step it up.
