Genuine fans acknowledge that luck has played a big role. Boks could very easily have lost their quarter final, just as Ireland could have won theirs and gone on to win the whole thing. I guess then the Irish would have been lauded as a breath of fresh air and the Boks would have been a mere footnote. There is no clear dominant team amongst the top 5 in World Rugby, as there was when the ABs dominated for decades, and that is great for the game!
Who decides what is the spirit of the game? Play whatever is within the rules of the game while demonstrating good sportsmanship.

Actually what most people don't realize is that over the years some of the coaches that failed did try a bomb squad tactic of changes 5 players at once the problem was in those games and at the time the springboks did not have the strength of depth that they have over recent years. It's the same reason most teams can't use the tactic as it is about change players of equal quality and skill.

What he says is true. No argument. However, the reason I prefer women's rugby is the lack of emphasis on size and power as the PRIMARY ingredient. The old "place for all body types' is pretty much gone from the men's game now.
That bomb squad tactic had one major drawback that aBokke fan pointed out during an interview with the content creator of a different rugby reviewer when she succinctly pointed out that her team showed up to play soccer while Ireland were playing rugby.
They are changing rules to stop they South Africans playing the way they know works for them. unfortunately we will one of these days not allowed to tackle anyone , it will become touch rugby. When South Africans emphasize their bomb squad they're really setting themselves up to being typecast as being little more than a one trick pony - Is that how you want to be seen? If you were to characterize Ireland what would you say about them? How would you describe them? I would say they're very tough, they're very smart, they're very fit, they're very fast and they've a great understand of their individual roles and their role within the team - I'd also say that they're very clinical in the way they go about their business. My point is it's very hard to nail them down to only being good at one thing. Isn't that exactly where you want to be as a team?

The simple truth is that ANY team can use this tactic. A 7/1 comes with the risk that having 2 backline injuries puts you in a pretty bad position. There are always going to be sad wannabes that take shots at teams that are successful, and they can be ignored flat out, because they don't have the ability to win massive games like the boks do. The tactic works well for the boks because we arguably have the deepest player pool in all of world rugby, also players train in different positions for in case they are needed there. It's called playing to your strengths...not against spirit of the game.

My comments are directed at an "embittered and failed coach" called called Matt Williams - who pulled this argument out of the bag of bitterness - regarding his past failures and lack of achievement as a Coach at the highest level in rugby!His record speaks for itself!! Just Google and check his dismal record! He has only now " achieved noterioty" by raising the split issue of backs vs forwards split - and his wimpish comments have exposed his "self assumed lack of self achievement in his career"!! He has actually become a "clanging horn - and broken trumpet" on every stage that offers him a comment on discussions about Rugby!
