Well done, Steve. It would be good to involve a panel to do a blind tasting. A lot of folks disagree about the taste they like. Some choose the sweetest as their favoutite, others like a good acidity too.
Hi Steve, I really like cherry and grape tomatoes for snacking and Roma tomatoes for our Salads. I think I need to find a good place to buy Sungold tomato seeds. Take care and sending you ra, ra, ra's for next weekend 👍 ❤Peggy❤
Cheers Peggy - fingers crossed for next weekend. I'll try and get some footage but it is very awkward in such a small space with loads of people LOL Have a great week
Absolutely brilliant Steve! Too much to mention but loved this and well worth the wait! A great one for referencing too. Much appreciated! Have a wonderful weekend chief. 😃😁💚🙏✨🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🔥🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🔥
Nicely done Steve. Based on your reaction, I would say #2 and #8 were the ones you enjoyed the most. They clearly had that flavor burst as you took the 1st bite.
I'm forever sending you duds 😂 I tell you what, I'll bring a brads atomic grape grown in my tunnel, to autumn 😮malvern for you! Lol always love your taste test videos Steve. Another great one. Danny 🌱
If you give me some Brad's Atomic Grape, will the plants fall over? 😂Sorry could not resist that one! Like I say in an upcoming video, any open pollinated variety can vary a lot from its parents. Salad tomatoes coming soon 🙂 Have a great week buddy
Great test and lovely to watch, and very useful for next year and catagorising the Toms (like you have) is a great move. Just a suggestion for this class of Toms, I wonder if you could substitute Skinthickness for resistance to splitting as its a fault with Sungold I'd be keen to replace.
Not a bad idea, maybe something for next year. The best way to combat splitting is to take the tomato off the vine as soon as it shows signs of colour change. From this point, the plant does nothing to help the fruit ripen but if it is overwatered it will try to get rid of the excess water in the fruit - and split them.
Hi Steve, interesting comments regarding Tumbler. Mine have gone exactly the same way, starting with leaf spot and the foliage slowly dying away, despite regular watering and feeding, although it has cropped really well.. Two of my usuals were missing off your list...Supersweet 100 and my all time favourite Sweet Million. As you said... all good enough to grace any salad 👍
I did sow and sell some Sweet Million, Nigel, but none left for me LOL I'll get some Super Sweet 100 for next year - that's 2 new types already and I've not even looked at the seed catalogues ! Like you said about you gardening diary - things are different than they were 10 years ago: maincrop spuds going over before earlies, poor bean growth for some, and now Tumbler dying back! Have a great week buddy
GREAT video! I love when you do these. Al watched with me, and now wants me to try Cheramy because it tastes more tomato than sweet and Santium Sunrise. Veggie Plot, did a tasting and his family loves those Honeycomb. I grew 4 and our Cherokee Purple remains the favorite. Brad’s AG is fab, TTofP is fab and Japanese Black Trifele is a total bust….very watery. I’m wondering if I watered that one less that it would improve the flavor…..gonna try it. Can’t wait for the other tasting!
Thanks Robin and thanks yet again for the seeds to make these videos possible 😘 Not sure if watering less would work as I have never tried it - only too much and they split LOL Have a great week
Love your tomato taste test videos I will have to try some of these - my tomatoes are all still green no blight as yet but we need a few more warmer days up here in the north east
My Tim’s never make it to the house ❤. I am only growing those and black strawberry cherry tomatoes this year. And not enough beefsteak are ripe enough for a taste test yet. Great update Steveo have a super week, Ali 🥵34c 🌞🇨🇦
34°C would almost bring the UK to a standstill LOL Yes, beefsteaks do tend to be slower and that is messing up their taste test video - a few are ready but most are not. The Tim's are fantastic, let us know about the Black Strawberry Cherries, please.
congratulations on carrying out my brother's activities, keep up the enthusiasm and success for all of us, thank you for sharing very interesting and entertaining content
I look forward to this video every time. I lost most of mine to blight 😢 not one red one this year. So next year I am either not doing tomatoes or moving further down south out of this rain 😂
Oh no! My advice is to take off all the leaves below each truss as it forms, Ann. And I use this stuff. Can't say if it works or not and I have not done a side by side trial but I've had no blight for 2 years now 🙂 amzn.to/3YyDAZr
glad we agree on one variety even if you don't like Gardeners delight 🤣Interesting on your thoughts on the Brads... as its mainly the wife who eats the salads in our house I'll maybe just grow one plant of that. I grew White beauty one year supposedly a white equivalent of moneymaker ... it was vile no taste at all so that one went to the compost heap in the sky. I think you're right, most folks don't know these varieties and so stick with their favourites or ones their dad grew (bit like me and my GD's 😂) whenwe used to do palnt sales for the local chrysanth club we could shift any number of Shirley, moneymaker, ailsa craig etc but anything else not a chance
Cheers Nick. I am tempting fate this weekend and exhibiting some of the "strange non-red" tomatoes in the local show! Might raise a few eyebrows as that was where I sold most of the common tom plants and these where left behind LOL
Good taste test Diggy! Thanks for the breakdown, I'd like to try a few of those next year. The colours other than red are for sure a challenge when selling, yet those that try them seem to really love them:))
Hi Steve sungold are my favourite so far but I would like to try Tim's taste of paradise and Brad's atomic grape. The zuckertraube cherry tomatoes that I'm growing are my second favourite and tumbling toms are Julia's favourite. I'll send you some zuckertraube/swap some for tim and Brad?🤠👍 Great video.
Yes please for the swap Nick, but I'll have to see how they save, if you know what I mean. Could be a few cross-pollinations with so many toms in such a small space, though. I gave up Tumbling Tom in favour of Tumbler a few years back - nicer taste IMHO but we are all different LOL
I enjoy your tomato taste tests! I'm not sure if I can find those top varieties here in the US, but I'm going to look! I do grow Sungold as I enjoy sweeter tomatoes. Thank you!
Tim's Taste of Paradise came from a friend of mine in America and these guys sell it (and developed it!) www.wildboarfarms.com/product/tims-taste-of-paradise/ You'll love it!
Thanks for the video mate. Will see which ones I can get over here. I like the cherry tomatoes for salads or just cut up with feta cheese sprinkled over and lightly covered in White Balsamic vinegar. Take care Steve and stay well Cheers Harold

I did think that but I don't bag my flowers to stop cross-pollination. (Maybe I should) So unlikely as it is, the seeds could be anything. My Santium Sunrise are almost touching the Tim's Taste of Paradise which is touching the Sungold and Indigo Pear Drop - so I could have a "Golden Indigo Sunny Paradise" LOL Now there an idea! Have a great week
Hi Steve interesting request. Do you find the taste is different growing hydroponically to the ones grown in the ground? I might try a couple of these varieties next year. Where do you get brads atomic tomato seeds from? All the best Nic 👍🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅
Not done a side by side trial with the tastes but what I do notice is the hydro ones seldom split - I guess cos they are always wet! There's a few in the UK that sell the BAG tom seeds now - Vital Seeds is one. See you soon
Hi Steve, the indigo pear drop’s definitely not ready, they should be yellow with a some purple, they are indeterminate but they do sometimes have a strange branching habit. They do take a while to ripen and sometimes they don’t all ripen by October. Honeycomb is my favourite orange variety, but I generally prefer Aviditas because the yield is bigger and it’s almost as good, but red : all the best - Steve
Thanks for the info, Steve. I'll give Aviditas a go in 2024 as I'm always on the look out for a stunner! Indigo Pear Drops was one of the ones I selected to try as a short plant with 2 or 3 leaders. It seems to be working with all of them. Loads of fruits and none have been blown over LOL Have a great week Steve
