My most challenging client had a stroke and her left arm has severe palsy. It's difficult to hold her hand and fingers straight. I use a cordless light and just hold it over her hand to cure the nails. It takes me a lot longer than normal to do her fills and I'm usually tense and sore after her appointment. But she's the sweetest lady so I'm happy to see her, I just wish I could get better at speed so she doesn't have to sit in one place so long.

I tend to jerk when I’m really relaxed and also worked on my grams after her stroke (she had a dropped foot and weak hands that liked to curl) and my suggestion is not straighten her fingers if they bend. It’s quite painful for the person. Simply turn her hand and arm over and work with the bent fingers. It’ll seem unnatural at first but it’s easier on your client and on you. I found it much easier to file when her fingers flexed the way they wanted.

I used to be a nail biter because I could not handle my nails having any long length at all (because they're thin&bendy). So, I started carrying a nail file with me everywhere (school, work, etc). Instead of biting the length, I filed almost daily. That helped me to stop biting.

My most "challenging" client was a lady with MS and her adult daughter. This lovely lady's right hand was almost always clenched into a fist, and she had been refused by other nail techs already.
She asked if I would do her left hand as normal, and the fingers of her right hand that could be seen, in a colour to match her daughter's, for a wedding they were attending.
I did the daughter's nails, and then went ahead and did all ten nails for this lady, with a full Manicure and gel polish with hand and arm massage, using every ounce of patience and kindness I had, so that she wouldn't feel like I was rushing or dismissive. She was so appreciative that I was making every effort for her.
(If I can do nails on Karens who won't put their phone down for even a minute, while having ridiculous expectations, I could patiently help this woman feel just a little more beautiful ❤)
She and her daughter both cried when I got finished and told her there was no charge.

ER doctors reattached it and it stayed on, her thumbnail even grew back normally. She only has a small scar, but she says the very tip of her thumb is numb now. And then a few weeks ago she smashed her other thumb in an industrial potato slicer and lost the nail. It looks like it probably has permanent damage.

What you’re thinking about is the eponychium, which is live skin that covers the nail matrix that produces the nail plate. When cutting the cuticles a nail tech can cut too far back and cut the eponychium, this creates an opening that exposes the nail matrix to bacteria and such that can infect or damage it. So cutting the cuticle is not bad, but damaging the eponychium is

As someone with dermatophagia from having abusive trauma it's pretty common to deal with abuse, ptsd, trauma, stress, etc. It's a coping mechanism and it suuuucks. I don't really bite as much anymore but I was definitely biting down to the nub and until it bled. I was so ashamed of my nails as a kid. If I didn't bite my nails I would bite my inner mouth cheeks 😱 I still catch myself biting sometimes and stop myself. The only way I got mostly over it was painting my nails and using nailtopia's nail strengthener. My nails are now longer and healthier than everyone I know ☺ great job btw! Mine is just ADHD and a direct response to my intrusive thoughts, anxiety, and sometimes just plain boredom. If my hands aren't busy, I'm ripping my teeth in until every finger is bleeding. I dont bite the nails anymore but I've gotten much worse with the skin around them. Dip nails saved my because I can't rip the skin anymore since the nails are too thick to hold and I can't bite because my teeth can't get around the layer of polish. Anytime I take a break they get horrible again 😭

Having to think about getting busted because their cooks have unsanitary hands makes you an asshole? I think they're just adhering more to safe food handling than being a jerk. I always thought it was kinda gross that Anna works as a cook and has long nails for food to get stuck under and contaminate everything.

@@judyh3707 if chefs are allowed to wear what they want on their nails then you would get customers complaining of food tasting funny because someones nail polish has crumbled and cracked all over it so l agree with you. Also no offence to Anna but l would have thought that someone else would be able to give her advice on how not to cut yourself so much, I'm the worst for burning myself with the oven but someone who is actually a chef you would think that they would learn to cut themselves less. Is it actually normal for chefs to be cutting themselves that often?? I've watched several of this series with Anna and she seems to always have many cuts, and that seems unsanitary to be cutting your hands into food prep but maybe I'm just ignorant to how professional kitchens really work

    • @i.8885

@@i.8885 I worked in a kitchen before and usually any respectable restaurant/kitchen if any of the cooks cut themselves while preparing the food and there’s a possibility that blood contaminated the dish, the food will be thrown away immediately. Also cutting fingers is the most common thing that can happen when you work in a kitchen, especially if you’re new to the job and those cuts can take quite a bit to heal. But if a more experienced cook is constantly cutting their fingers when working with the knives, they’re either not paying attention or don’t know how to properly handle a knife.

If they're not good at it, sure. A decent cook doesn't cut themselves that often. Nail polish/enhancements on nails are not hygienic and violate health regulations (in USA anyway) for workers who handle food; in fact it's a violation of health for food servers even if they don't physically touch any food. You can't just wear gloves, gloves get holes torn in them all the time especially if you're wearing them constantly, which you would be if you're wearing them to cover up your nails. If your hands are all cut up like hers she should be wearing a glove anyway.
This is just according to food health regulation. They also really want you to cook your steaks well done, and say all food handlers should wear gloves at all times when handling food, so some things are taken with a grain of salt. On the other hand I can't think of any reason it's acceptable for a cook to have nail extensions or polish. I worked in the restaurant industry for 10 years and studied health regulation extensively, that's my credentials.

Always leave cuticles on. Cuticles protect your nailbed. Cutting them off can cause infection. I hate it when people cut their cuticles off, especially nail technicians. Y'all know better. Also idve never let Anna walk out of the without some bandages. What kinda of nail tech tells them clients to leave without bandaging open wounds.

    • @apoptosis9459
      @apoptosis9459 Před 3 lety +2

Cutting them can cause an infection when there's an open nick, cut, or bruise. With the amount she took off, it was clearly just dead skin that has lifted off and would have dried up, causing rips in the dry cuticle area. Secondly, this is a nail salon. Not a nurse's office. Anastasia has given advice on protecting the wound, supplied Ana with temporary bandaids too. Ana works as a senior chef, you really think she doesn't know how to take care of her own hands, which she makes a living and a career with? Please 🙄
