  • This video is part of a series created from footage of Eugene Stoner and Mikhail Kalashnikov meeting in Virginia in 1990. All the footage is courtesy of the Smithsonian Institution Archives. All I have done is cut some of the waiting time between tapes out and tried to fix the audio. Otherwise, what you are seeing is entirely unadulterated.
    Feel free to ask any questions about the various topics of the video in the comments. I will do my best to answer them.

    How rude giving this man a Chinese AK

    • @sksjustice7693
      @sksjustice7693 Před 2 lety +228

      The Chinese made Polytech Legend. Was probably the finest import AK. Ever available in the USA. (Milled Receiver). The Norinco variants were great quality as well. Chrome lined barrels, forged trunions, etc. Russian AK’s for the American civilian market never really became a reality. Due to 94 assault weapons ban. And the ridiculous 922R laws. The Russian Saigas and Molot Vepr rifles that were later imported. In “sporting configurations”. Had to be converted while complying to the 922R laws regulating. The number of foreign made parts vs American made in a non- sporting rifle. In 2014 Obama, banned the import of Russian made firearms.

      Its America. They have like the worst gun laws on the planet. Not only they have embargo on everything and their domestic production sucks, but they make real weapons crippled by stripping them out of auto sears and another crutial components. Even in the 90's all they had to do was find a dealer of NFA items, such as suppressors. They could have taken a full auto M16 and AK to the range. I don't see why they didn't do that. This was filmed in 1990, so there was no shortage of freshly registered full autos they could have used if they didn't locate an NFA dealer.

    These reason the mag wouldn't go in was because it was over-loaded. That's why he had that "ah of course" moment at 2:35 and took a round out of it and then it went in no issue. Same thing as when you load 31 rounds in a 30rd AR mag and try to insert it with the bolt closed which I guess only makes sense if yall have ever shot either of these rifles. Also they joke about "bad chinese made gun" but that's a Polytech Legend, literally one of the finest AK variants to come into the US. Norinco (the Chinese company that produced these) worked their asses off to insure the quality of their US imported firearms because the US is a very very profitable firearms market and people will spend A LOT for quality., it was very worth the effort. On top of that Polytech took it further and made hem even better rifles once they came into the country so the rifle he had was not the issue whatsoever.
    tl;dr It was just an overloaded magazine issue, it had nothing to do with the rifle. The rifle is very high quality despite the stigma around Chinese made things.

    • @jakeh6980
      @jakeh6980 Před 2 lety +3

      Saying the AR is better in most areas is personal opinion considering the AK has been used in all environments around the world for half a century and can run wet,dry, dirty,clean, has less moving parts, can be cleaned faster, taken apart faster, shoot steel or brass ammo with no issues etc. the AR is great platform, but the AK has been proven more reliable and durable for 50 years. Not crapping on the AR Bc it’s good in its own right. But the AK is the superior weapon in more categories than the AR
