It's amazing how will they work together and they're not even in the same band, she's just a guest.

Sort of like 'hey, these two would sound great together"

No matter what type of music you usually listen to. You have to admit that this song is sincerely beautiful.
    Really a piece of art.

I actually like this version better than the album version, which is rare for me. I love how she fades out her voice by literally pulling away from the mic.

Isn't it crazy? There are these songs out there you heard a thousand times and everyone knows them but yet I am sitting here and I am totaly smashed by the talent and realy cool composing which I never thought about before. Never saw this or even the normal music video for this one, if there even exist one. Thank you for checking it out. Love to be on board on your reaction train. Greetings to you Italien Plumber Boys. ;-)

Watching Wally & his band perform the Gotye music live is phenomenal - esp knowing the creation of them was just him in his room & it takes so many to do it dull justice live. & they always sound incredible.

I've watched a lot of reaction videos of this song, but you are the first one to react to my favorite video of this song. I love Kimbra's movements and voice, also his. I have been a fan of music for at least 65 of my 72 years, and I conclude that this is my favorite song in my life.

In regards to your question about how Goyte knows what he's playing, there being so many buttons etc I thought I'd give some info based on using the same things.
He's playing a Launchpad there that would be driving a VST in his DAW and he's got the Launchpad in notes or keyboard mode and set to the scale of the song. Doing that then means that whatever button he presses will be in the right scale and you know where C0 is (usually bottom left button if you haven't shifted octaves up or down) so then it's pretty easy to know what note you're hitting in the same manner as if he was playing keys.

Gotye, pronounced "gow · tee · ay" is an Australian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who, on occasion, performs solo, or in this case a duet. His full-time gig is with the group "The Basics".
My analysis of the meaning of the song is different than most. There are 3 individuals depicted here. He and 2 women. He sings about the first one in his opening stanza. He told himself she was right for him but still felt lonely in her company and that's an ache he still feels to this day. He got addicted to the sadness of knowing it was going to end and when it did she promised they would still be friends. She lied, she just wanted to get away from him. Why? When they broke up she did everything she could to distance herself from him. He begins whining about how unfair and hurtful that was. He tries to comfort himself by saying he doesn't need that aggravation.
Enter girl number 2, Kimbra. She got involved with him after his breakup with girl number 1. At this point, they have already separated. Why? He kept screwing her over and making her believe it was her fault. This is probably the same reason girl number 1 dumped him. She didn't want to live with someone like that. On top of that, he said he could let his breakup with girl number 1 go and she "wouldn't catch him hung up on somebody that he used to know". She could read into the words he said that he obviously could not. So he dumped him too.

Great reaction. I’ve bee an even bigger fan of Gotye when I discovered his other stuff. Hearts a Mess is one, with great video. Although the song is easy, as you said, there are always a lot of interesting layers in his compositions. There is a docu on his channel where he explains how he samples natural sounds, even a huge wire fence for a bass line of one of his songs. He collects old organs and other unique instruments. He is a sound artist. The female singer, Kimbra, has great own music, too.

I enjoyed your thoughtful review of this -- you both notice detail.
The female singer here is Kimbra who has incredible performance presence. There is a reason why her video cover of Nina Simone's "Plain Gold Ring " has 6 million views ;and the 3,000+ commenters are not just jazz lovers. This would be a fascinating video to react to - "Kimbra - "Plain Gold Ring" (Live at Sing Sing Studios)" .

Unfortunately goat tee yea .is his Dutch name. He gave away most of the money because he didn't feel worthy. He went back to his old friends called basic. They haven't done much. But kimbra the girl singing has made a lots of videos and songs. She's outstanding, but only well-known in Australia. Listen to some of her stuff. Unfortunately you won't find any new stuff from goteye .really sad .Reminds me of Randy Vanwarmer . He was chronically shy. Only one worldwide success. He wrote loads of music for other's. Both myself and my husband met him and his family just before he passed away. Check out Randy Vanwarmer . 1 hit. So very sad❤

Kimbra is from New Zealand. So is also well known there. Gotye was born in Belgium. However his parents moved to Australia when he was very young. So he is Belgian / Australian.
