I appreciate how you popped off the back and immediately showed the exact locations and descriptions of the SSD drive, HDD and RAM, and even illustrated them with graphics. These are crucial components to anyone thinking about future upgrades. Most reviewers just point and vaguely mumble something like "and over here's your storage, blah blah" and move on.
Cheers for the feedback mate, will keep this in mind for future laptop reviews!
@@pbtech Is it possible to upgrade like ssd or gpu or cpu in future (5 years or more)?
I will get mine in two days :)
Anakin three days for me I’m a bit scared tho I have never owned a laptop or pc
I have a MSI laptop but its 2 years old i wanted something faster lol , after a lot of research i found this as the best prize/specs option , lets try it heheh
Great choice! you won't be disappointed, did you go with the 1070 model?
YES, gtx 1070 8gb , im writing this comment from my new omen :P
Anakin price and full congs..plsss post it here
Super good review! Thanks!!!
Very impressive this will be my gift in the next birthday. Big thumb up for this video and thanks.
It's a great review. Thanks a lot.
You made me buy the 15,6 inch model! It is super super good!
Floris how much does it cost?
Thanks for this, i would say it is one of the few videos out there showing the new 2018 17" model. A review focused on the big one would be much appreciated. Love that they removed that red dragon keyboard.
Super well done guys! Keep doing these!
Cheers William :D

I've just bought one of these from PB tech and I cant wait to get it.
Same. Picking it up tomorrow😎🤠
I’m buying next week! Can’t wait for payday😅
Great info. Thanks.
I was deadset on a GS65 Stealth. Then I almost went with the Razer. I discover the Omen today and holy sh*t you pretty much save $800 with the same specs!
Indeed, I was going for the ASUS ones which having a 1060 cost the same as the HP Omen with a 1070 lol... so it is up to everyone, if you want design, go for ASUS, Razor or similar... or go with HP and get all the features incl. GSYNC for the same money as the competition charging more giving you often even less features.
hi,i bought the 17 inch and it will get delivered tomorrow. Thanks for this wonderful video.
IS the keyboard all red ?
@@user-mq9oy4nh9g it has 4 zone rgb keyboard.
Thank you for the reply im buying the 17 inch thanks to you! 17 anxxx model right ?
yes
I bought mine today 15.6 inch one. It's money worth spent!
The official Thunderbolt spec isn't included with all models of this machine. It's an upgrade. So even if the chassis shows the Thunderbolt logo on the USB 3.1 Type C port, it doesn't necessarily mean your own machine has Thunderbolt functionality. You'll need to get your exact model name and version number and Google it to see if you have Thunderbolt or not.
EDIT: Only USB 3.1 Type C gen 2 and above is officially Thunderbolt. The 17-an120nr I got has USB 3.1 Type C gen 1. Hopefully, at this level, the difference between gen 1 and gen 2 is more of a marketing label than a hardcore architectural/performance difference, and the port still might work with random Thunderbolt devices (example, maybe the Thunderbolt spec got redefined with some tiny changes at the last minute, and manufacturers weren't allowed to call their USB 3.1 Type C gen 1 ports Thunderbolt anymore).
I did see an HP Support person stating on a Best Buy forum that the USB 3.1 C port on the 17-an120nr is NOT Thunderbolt.
I also noted that the ad copy for the machine I bought did NOT say anything about Thunderbolt, which they definitely would have if it were present on the machine.
In my case this is important because in future I might want to use a higher-grade graphics card in an enclosure with this laptop. It wasn't a factor in my purchasing the machine, but obviously it would be a nice feature to have. Without it, you have no graphics upgradeability in the future.
One recurrent problem Omen laptops have in general seems to be degradation and dropping of WiFi connectivity. I've experienced this myself. I can have my four-year-old Venom laptop sitting right next to this one on the same table, both connected to 2.4 Ghz WiFi, and the old machine will be downloading at its usual 2 Mbps+ rate while this one won't even reach 1 Mpbs. It's aggravating, because WiFi is such a basic, important feature that you wouldn't think you'd still have to worry about on a brand-new laptop. I currently have no access to a LAN/Ethernet connection, and I wouldn't even have considered this laptop if I knew there were going to be WiFi issues of any kind. I realize "real gamers" don't use WiFi, but 1. I disagree and 2. It depends on the game and the quality of the WiFi.
After trying many different fixes and looking through tons of documentation, I believe the real cause of this machine's WiFi issues is thermal throttling due to WiFi card placement and general internal architecture.
In my own case, the only fix that worked was, oddly, to reset the battery power management slider from the Windows Task Bar at the middle point between "Battery saving" and "Performance" (despite the fact that I never run the machine from the battery - I didn't buy it for the battery and could care less about its battery characteristics), reboot using the default BIOS setup, and then walk around on eggshells afterwards. Any attempt to change or modify the WiFi connection after that will immediately cause the WiFi download speed to plunge to around 800 Mbps and stay there.
There seems to be a common theme in the approaches people take to fix the WiFi issue that involve turning off the machine or reducing workload at some point (like many others, I've also noticed that it usually downloads over WiFi fine for the first few minutes, and then the connection slows down massively). And then the issue comes back after the machine has been running for a while, regardless of what the user did, be it tweaking network settings in Windows Device Manager, updating/reinstalling drivers from HP or the card vendor, using HP help tools, doing BIOS tweaks, and so on. Around half of the people I've seen on forums never get the problem fixed.
All of this, and my own experiences, is why I suspect that the real issue lies with the Omen's internal architecture, in that the heat it puts out is causing thermal throttling of the WiFi card.
[The Windows diagnostic tools and HP utilities are innefectual. They're more of a marketing gimmick than a serious utility. I can't remember a single time in years of using Windows that its diagnostic tools were even able to suggest a fix that wouldn't have already been thought of and tried by an average user, let alone perform one.]
I'm getting a good cooling pad ASAP and will hope for the best.
I wonder how many more years it will take before you can just buy a computer and have it do what you bought it for. PCs have been around for 30+ years and the internet for 25 years, but you still can't even do something as simple as connecting to the internet without massive issues every time you buy a new computer or upgrade anything.
Nice vid bro
I got the aero 15, which is a sick model, with individual lighting key BUUUUTTT..... the omen grab my eyes and I bought it with 1070, 144hz display and im happy with the device itself. Cheers to HP making a good device
how is the thermals?

I got it with the 1050 with 4gb instead of 2 - that should he enough for me. I'm really excited for it to arrive, ordered it tonight!!!
i got mine yesteday. Its awesome, you wont regret it :)
I just got mine on Thursday - I've been playing mostly Undertale and the Sims 4 lmao
@@alexlucian9598 i believe the issue is not the amount of noise, but the high pitch of the fans. On idle the noise is not much more than any onther gaming laptop IMO. But underload, it sure gets loud (55 Db, something like that?). By loud i mean a higher pitch sound coming from the spinning fans, higher than other laptops. I found an easy fix: On the power settings, i just dropped the max performance from the CPU from 100% to 99%. The CPU will stay in the low 60 degrees when playing Far cry 4 in High settings. If i leave it at 100%, it will reach 80 plus degrees. I
I mean its a gaming laptop, i dont know what people are expecting from it, but I sure am happy with it. I have the i5 8300H/1050TI variant.

Hello how's your laptop working after 1 year?is it good to go?
Iv been searching for this laptops review everywhere
How about the temperature tho? I hear omen laptops have severe temp issues
Can you guys do a video on the Dell Inspiron 5577 5858 I’m thinking of purchasing it from you guys towards the end of the year. However if you are busy
no pressure. Thanks for taking the time to read my comment as I know you guys are busy. Have a great day and enjoy the upcoming weekend.
Hey, does the HP Omen 17t Gaming have RGB keyboard on shipping? Because some people say yes some says no.
I'm confused does the 17inch-model have thunderbolt 3 just like the 15 -inch one?
in the specs sheet, it only says USB type-c but then again it has the thunder logo next to the USB-c port!
the specs sheet, also says that the keyboard has red-backlight only but it actually has RGB backlight [4 zones]
Please review helios 300 vs hp omen 15
Got a question right here. How´s the 15" compared to Asus ROG Strix Scar II 15"? Because they have pretty much the same specs but the price is like 300 more on ROG. If I could get an answer please. I can not decide wich one to take.
I got the 15 inches one. Its a really good laptop got it for under 1200.
what is the screen response time on the 144hz model, I can't seem to find that info anywhere?

Hey man nice review keep up the good work but quick question what would the temperatures be for the cpu and gpu on the i5 gtx 1050 model and how loud would the fans be?
Not extremely loud
how do you tell what year your model is? I currently have an HP-Omen dc0101tx model, but I don't know if this is the 2016, 2017, or 2018 model. How can I find this out?
I bought this Laptop yesterday from MicroCenter, i7 9th gen 2060 nvidia, this laptop is solid for $999
I will get mine in 4 days :)
wait how do you change the keyboard lights? idk how to change them, i got the omen 15 1050, can any1 help me pls, i dont want the colors red ad white...
I hope you review eluktronic mech 17 one day I would like to see it
I got the omen x with full aluminum build. This is a beast and better then it 2019 counterpart
Notebookcheck say that the keybord reach prety high. I m confused what to buy this or msi gp73
bro how do u change the color on the keyboard? mine is the 1050 omen 15.6 got it this year 6/21/18
NIce Video!
any idea the difference between the white legend and the dragon red legend keyboard? is it just color?
Really good transitions that match the music in the background.
BTW, the 2018 15 inch models are the GTX 1070 MaxQ whereas the 17 inch are the full GTX 1070. If you go GTX 1060, you get the non-MaxQ version for the 15 inch model.
Probably has to do with thermals, I'm not sure about the difference in performance, have you been able to gauge the difference between the 1070 MaxQ and the 1070 within the Omen range?
I was going for the 15 inch but i then watched benchmarks..so now i have bought 17 inch one..which has full gtx 1070.it will come in 3 days
Thanks a lot. I've been looking a few days for that information. Besides the tick basels on the 17inch does it really makes a difference? A full gtx 1070 and this max q model?
Hp page don't mention g-sync on the screen, they mention it in "other functionalities", on the store they told me that means g-sync is only there in the gpu, if you connect a third-party minitor that has g-sync, the laptop's monitor does not have.
Nice review!
I could need some help though. I know that images can differ from the original product but the 17 inch Modell you show has a different keyboad than the one you likend in the description. Its lighting isnt locked to red and the WASD keys are acuatlly only highlited by a white stripe, rather than beeing entirely red. And even on the hp homepage i can't find a single image of a 17 inch omen where the WASD keys aren't completely red. ...?
it depends on the country and the website you are checking them from... in the uk I haven't yet to see a Omen with full red keyboard other than the 2017 version... but i've seen countless of them in the US reviews and websites for some reason
Hey thank you for your response! I actually already "risked" it and the model i got has customizable colour on the keyboard just like the one that is shown in this video :) It was advertised with a picture of the entrie red keyboard on the website of the seller tho. So that might be a point to look out for some people who are interested in buying one of these. It also came with a 120hz screen instead of the 144hz advertised by some sellers. Cheers!
@@the0jedi hi, from where did you buy it? i thought it should be 144hz.
did you get it from amazon model:17-an120nr??
@@iluasp9698 Hi A Blue, No this is not my model. I got the OMEN by HP 17-an105ng and bought it via a german seller, not amazon (dont want to advertise here,). Hope this was helpful. I personally cant tell if there is a big of a differece between 120hz and 144hz anyway. You might PM me if you like ;)
Which is the 17 inch model ? The omen X ? It has rgb keyboard
Hi, what can you tell me about battery life?

I really want this gaming laptop.
Me too 😩
I love my 2060 version of it
What is the refresh rate for the HP 15-dc0030nr I can't found it
Ayoub Hakmi screen
do you recommend the Omen models for Video editing?
you should test color calibration
I’m saving my money to buy this
Which one would u guys recommend the 17 or 15 ???
The 1070 on the 15 inch model is a 1070 max-Q model.
I am pretty happy with my Late 2017, OMEN 17 I got on sale. The bigger chassis is heavy and bulky but keeps the temps super low which allows for quieter gaming.. If I had to travel though the OMEN 15 would have been my choice..
If you are replacing a desktop by all means get the 17, Its quieter, faster (Due to better thermals) and gorgeous display.
If you want to balance gaming and productivity get the 15, smaller, nimbler and still a beast of a machine.. Just dont expect it to run cool or quiet.
skirmich does the 17t have rgb kb or just red? tia
Just Red Keyboard.. I think only the OMEN X Line has FULL RGB SWITCHING, The OMEN (Minus X) Line only has Pure Red keyboards and now has Zone RGB which looks tacky IMO, I dont mind the Red Keyboard but I can relate to people wanting a Laptop that doesnt scream GAMER!
i just ordered the 2018 17t i hope it wont be just red kb, thanks for the info btw
If it has a 8750H odds are its a Zone RGB Model.
that's the one that i got from best buy, im so excited to have it.
That design on the back of the screen though, does it always light up in red or can the color be changed? I saw another review of the same laptop I think and it has color blue on the back of the screen
Hey Marie, these ones are only red on the back of the screen.
i like your accent man
I just ordered mine with the i5-9300h and the GTX 2060. I'm worried about the thermal situation. While I have a gaming mouse and a mechanical keyboard so that heat doesn't bother my hands, I'm concerned it will impact the performance.
Does it have a 1 touch keypad? Can the keyboard be made all white?
15' have slim bezels. They haven't updated 17" design which is shame.
can any one tell me the refresh rate of this particular 15-dc0030nr model ?

Good review. But I can't the 17 inch model with the RGB keyboard anywhere.
Mohith Raju yes it sucks they don't love the 17 model
Some screen tests would have been great and not just like, hey they look awesome same goes for Temperature and for clockspeed!
Thanks for you feedback mate, we currently don't have the gear to test screen gamut accurately, but this is something we will look into moving forward.
You could use at least SMTT 2.0! :)
I dont have lighting option in hp omen comand center, i have all updates and reinstaled hp omen center, but i dont have lighting option, keyboard have just Red. Can you help me for rgb ?
Same problem here !
It depends on the SKU you have, here in NZ this specific SKU has RGB, but if you're buying this overseas it may only come with red backlighting
whats the song in the
background
What's the song playing throughout the video?
I have the RTX 2060 variant and it is amazing!!!
Hey, I am thinking to get the RTX 2060 one. For how long have you been using your laptop? Did you face any major issues? How's the thermal performance and battery life?
@@tnmyk_ I've been using it for 2 weeks and there is no issues what so ever. I guess the only thing that may concern you is the fan noise. It really gets loud when you play, but for me it is not a problem because the thermals are excellent. CPU is about 80 degree celsius, and 70-75 degree celsius for the GPU. Also most of the time I have my air-conditioner on, so my thermals are even better! 50-60 celsius in CPU, and 40-50 celsius in GPU
How much do these cost I willing to pay £850 for one

is the omen x better or should i get the new 17 inch? i mean the only reason i’m getting the x is for the 1080, but it has lower cpu. which are better?
15 is better.
mine gets heated up to 90 degrees Celsius when i play on ultra at max fps, just want to know if its safe or normal (i have the 15.6 1060 version)
I mean it's safe yes, however it can damage your computer in the long run so I suggest playing high.
Can i connect a 240 hz or a 144hz monitor on it?
Yes I believe you can
do the monitors also pls
