This is what I've been looking for. I'm not spending $30+ on a dog coat when I can repurpose a out grown kids clothes. I did a "sample/example" garment/pattern for our pitty from a old thin towel. This way I know what fits exactly. Plus you can keep the written measurements on the towel.

This is a really great idea ...I am looking for a workaround for my fur baby boy. The long zipper and full length jacket get in the way when he pees. ;)

Only thing I would change, because I have a large (muscular and generally large takes him to extra large in many sizes) shepherd puppy, I measured his elbow around and got 10” (loosely) and had him sit to get the biggest chest measure (shoulder to shoulder) width which I got 9” which I would go up for comfort (probably 1-3” depending on the dog I expect him to have a decent growth spurt so I’m going to + 3” to get 12”) and he will grow over the winter. I also took a measure of around his back and around his neck 22” (he has a deep chest cavity of 32” and ‘half’ of that on top is 20” again adding a couple inches to accommodate comfort and growth) his waist is 28” loosely and his chest from breast bone to the last feel-able rib by his belly is 16” long (which is important to not have him peeing on his jacket which on the back will come to 24”)
Many dogs are equally as thick in the chest as they are in the tum, sausage like, such as: labs, corgis, healers, many mastiffs and many seniors dogs. Shepherds are not like this and need extra depth and cinching.
By far this is the best tutorial I have come across, I just wanted to make sure it would work for people with curvy pups with large chest cavities, or dogs with small chests but large tummies, such as most corgis as that is how they are shaped, for the most comfort 😊
I also made a snood for his ears so he doesn’t get an ear ache in the wind ❤️😌

Nice! I'm going to use this to modify my worn-out faux leather bomber jacket for my dog.

To figure out where the arm holes should go, would it be better to measure from the neck to the leg itself? I am confused on how to properly find where to cut the arm holes?

I rewatched video; she says to measure out from breast bone. In another video I saw…the lady said she draws the circles 3” apart…I tried that and it wasn’t an accurate fit. So, I am going to try again, but this time I will measure at the breastbone vertically across between the legs.
