I am glad to see it growing in those skinny beds. I have planted into 700 mm beds, and was worried the bamboo will eventually break the sleeper beds open. The longer the hedge. the better it looks in my opinion. Thanks for posting.
And so what, even if Bamboo DOES "go everywhere"? In most cases, it occupies space nobody's doing anything worthwhile with, anyway - while being beautiful, cleaning the air, improving soil characteristics, and absorbing noise. What's not to love? But yes: the clumping kinds are very mannerly. We have a hedge of a clumping variety, planted before the Titanic went down. In over a century, the clumps have widened maybe a couple of feet.
They call a lot of Bamboo "giant" or "timber". I find Oldhami medium at best. It's also a pretty soft bamboo so I don't think it's as "timber" as other species. It is a great fence or barrier and visually appealing and grows pretty straight up and down without spreading and getting real wide so it's very manageable.
I run up and down the state moving plants often and can deliver plants for a reasonable price Anywhere from San Francisco and Sacramento down to San Diego. I could probably deliver some to you on Wednesday and the cost would be $150 for a plant that is 6 to 8 feet tall and delivery would run $100-$250 depending upon exactly where you are. If you email me your address I can pinpoint the delivery fee and the delivery fee includes as many plants as you wish to purchase. Thank you
I love bamboo. Gives a meditative zen feel. Also a nice visual interest.
You say No way like a true surfer dude. You fit in
So you can cut the top once and it will stay that set height?

It can go to areas where people do not want them, for example the neighbors backyard
