Jeepers that is unfortunate Joe! 😢 Ironic you are now having to strip Klaus down at the same time I am completing the similar process on my RS. I recall you once saying you had a small oil leak from the neutral switch but was letting it develop. It was because my leak from the neutral switch got so bad was the reason for my strip down leading to my main seal/clutch pack etc replacement. So far my trans is ok except I buggered up my input shaft seal yesterday. But I’m getting there now. I concur with your decision to have your trans rehabilitated by a professional. I watched Brook Reams (RS icon- Brook’s Airhead Garage) repair his trans on CZcams (beyond my skill level🤔). When you do take your trans out it’s a good idea to protect your frame from being marked. I made a right mess of my frame resulting in time consuming prep/masking/spraying to remove the marks. Otherwise, like you say the trans comes out easy enough. Don’t forget that leaky neutral switch $17 AND washer 50c 👍 Well I’m off to spend another day rebuilding. Just a thought - I decided to replace the entire clutch pack and not just the friction plate because I read somewhere that the compression ring wears conically. If there was some severe wear like that, you could easily get slipping because you're not getting the full surface to make contact...until it beds in. This is why mechanics recommend replacing it as a pack so the wear is even. Maybe why Klaus is slipping! as previous owner may have only replaced the friction plate. There's no such thing as a lowly Vstrom, great bikes. Geeze Joe sorry to hear about the transmission, I can't imagine how much that would cost to fix and ship both ways. I am sorry to hear about poor Klause. I like the coastal overcast days in California as compared to the intense clear and sunny days in AZ. Nice to get a break from the heat. Good afternoon Rob, yes it’s a bummer when major surgery is needed on the kids. Joe is a qualified surgeon and Klaus will be better than new.
