The North Pennines - The Stunning Landscape Around Stanhope Burn

  • On my hike in the North Pennines I visit the area around Stanhope Burn, both the lowlands and some local summits. I start at Parkhead Railway station, following the remains of the Rookhope railway before heading onto my first summit, Horseshoe Hill. From there I descend into the valley to hike alongside Stanhope Burn itself, which throws up a few surprises on the way, before ending my hike with some stunning views at my final summit, but which one?..

    Well thank you too Duncan for your massive shout out here! 😁 Sorry that I left you speechless in my shout out to you! 😂😂😂 However, I meant everything I said. I have watched and enjoyed all your videos. It was great to discover your channel during my initial research on the North Pennines, and I really got drawn into your videos when I watched. You talked here about down-playing, and I can see where you are coming from, but I know from my own experience that you must still put a huge amount of work into making your videos with the filming then all the post-production, recording the music, etc. I shall continue to enjoy your videos of the North Pennines, an area of which I'm proud to say I have now visited myself. It's certainly a beautiful part of the UK, and one day I hope to come back to see more. Thanks Duncan for what you do and keep up the good work! All the best 👍😃

      Again thank you for the shout out, it really does mean a lot for my work to be acknowledged 😊 Yes there is a lot of work goes into them but I am of the opinion that if people are devoting their time to watching then at least give them something of a decent quality to watch. Again thank you for supporting my channel and hopefully one day I will visit the Peak District and meet on a mountain sometime 😊

    Great video Duncan! I am one of your recent new subscribers following Patrick Leach's recent recommendation. Love your gentle poetic style! I'm a great fan of your walks in the Cross Fell area, having walked that section of the PW in 1984. Sadly an ankle accident sustained back in 2019 prevents me now from distance walking over rough terrain. But your's and Patrick's videos enable me to imagine myself back there, as I follow you on the OS app!

      Thanks, glad you are enjoying them. I am gonna be honest and don't know if much of the PW will have changed since 1984, all I can think of is possibly the stepping stones after Birkdale Farm are now a shooting track, a footbridge over Maize Beck (no one goes over Maizebeck Scar anymore) and a rebuild of the shelter on top of Cross Fell? Sorry to hear you are restricted in where you can hike, glad to know mine and Patricks videos are helping to bring back some happy memories 😊

    I really enjoyed your film Duncan where you capture the essence of a cold and blustery day. Looking forward to the next journey you take.

      Thank you, I will agree it was definitely cool with a good breeze but being well wrapped up was a big bonus, didn't feel it at all unless standing still for extended periods. I hope you continue to enjoy my videos, lots more in the pipeline...😊

      @@DuncanBaxter I always enjoy the ambience you create.
      Speaking as a North Cumbrian, I actually find the Pennies quite daunting!
      The Pennies have a real sense of solitude and wilderness.
      This however alluring; you capture this experience perfectly in these magnificent videos

      It's lovely to hear your brother is on the mend and hopefully your boots will be on those mountains again quite soon. I am quite envious of you having a drone, definitely one on my future kit list and if we ever meet (I hope we do) out on those glorious moors I think the sun will be setting before we finish talking, atb 😊

    Hi DUNCAN...really enjoyed joining you on the walk...some lovely views along the way...my wife and myself are hoping to visit this area soon as we are visiting the highest point in each of the historic counties of England...i was wondering if you knew of a circular walk that took in Burnhope seat, or will we just have to do a short walk up to the summit from the B6277...We know nothing of the area....thanks, Steven

      @DuncanBaxter  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Hi, thank you for the subscription and glad you like my channel. I am assuming the route from the road is via the Yad Moss ski slope which is certainly the shortest route to the summit of Burnhope Seat. Some people will also reach the summit via a slightly longer 'there and back' from Killhope Cross. If you fancy making a full day of it I can heartily recommend my fourth upload on my channel which was a circular hike from Burnhope Reservoir to the summits of Great Stony Hill, Burnhope Seat and Deadstones then back to Burnhope Reservoir. Its a full day, I think approx 17 miles and has some nice views and surprises along the way.
