  • Cleaning your gas grill is an effective way to reduce the chance that you will have a grease fire. Every year thousands of grills catch on fire resulting in some deaths and millions in property damage. Cleaning your Weber gas grill doesn't have to be difficult or time consuming with these easy steps.
    Avoid the trap of saying that grime is "seasoning" and the only reason your grilled food tastes the way it does. Built up grime can lead to grease fires and a burnt carbon taste when what you really want is to have the juices hit the flavorizer bars and create thin wispy smoke. The only way to do that is to keep that grill clean. You spent a lot of money on your grill. You might as well make it last.

      Instead of buying the aluminum trays, I lined the one that came with the grill with aluminum foil that way I don’t have to buy trays. One roll of aluminum foil is way cheaper than a set of trays. 😉

      The nice thing about propane grills is you don't have to worry about your fuel getting wet and they double as an oven without making everything taste smokey. Hopefully you won't need it in an emergency.

    Scrunched up aluminum foil works almost as good as a wire brush to clean grill grates. You can use tongs to hold the foil if you clean the grill after you have burnt of any stuck food after grilling.

    My first Weber bought at Sears last me 21 years with simple maintenance. I gave it to the guys who worked for us at our home. I bought a Weber Genesis that I have owned for 8 years. I am loving the grill. Keep it clean and have never needed to replace a part. I wish I could find a brush to clean the inside of the tubes because I am starting to get some uneven heating. The tubes are in great condition and clean with spider vents clean but still playing checkers with the food to keep it even. The Weber is worth the money as it keeps its looks and function better than any grill I have ever owned. I am an avid griller for over 50 years.

      When I bought my grill, I thought the grates should be installed with the thin grates up, but they are actually designed to be installed flat side up. Don't know why Weber went with that design, but it definitely cuts back on the aesthetics of traditional grill marks. Their older grills have grates that are installed flat side down.

    • @robertmayer7232
      @robertmayer7232 Před 3 lety +6

      They are intended to be reversible. Flat side up for higher temp - steaks, burgers, etc. that you want to make pretty lines and crosses, and for searing. Pointed/thinner side up for lower temp longer cooking items and for things that tend to stick - fish, marinated chicken drumsticks, sausages, etc. I'm a newbie. This is right out of the Weber instruction manual.
      I keep my left grill (where the searing station is) with flat side up and the right grill with thinner side up. Different food types go on their appropriate grill. But of course I would flip one or the other when planning to make a lot of one type of food.

    • @GrillTopExperience
      @GrillTopExperience  Před 3 lety

      That's one of the tough parts because of the texture of the grill. That's where some people would try oven cleaner, but you might get it off with a paste of half dish soap half baking soda. Scrub it in and let it sit for a few minutes. It may take some elbow grease, but it can remove some of it.

    After all of the scraping on the inside, it you want to super clean it. get a large disposable aluminum pan. Fill the about 2" of water. Place on the grates and turn all of the burners on high. You will steam clean the inside. It will need another wipe down, but wait for it to cool. If you have many years of gunk, you may have to repeat this.

    My Spirit has lost of flair ups, I scraped all the ashed stuff out and that helps! Also, do you have to 'season' those grills after cleaning? The brownish stuff, is that rust , i get that on mine sometimes but I always scrub the grates after cooking and keep lid closed so it doesn't get wet from rain.

    • @GrillTopExperience
      @GrillTopExperience  Před 4 lety

      I don't bother seasoning a gas grill that's been used. You'll grease it up the next time you cook. There wasn't any rust on the grill when I made this video, but a few years later, the flavorizer bars are starting to show it.

    • @GrillTopExperience
      @GrillTopExperience  Před 4 lety +1

      If you have the pointy side up the space between the bars is wider and your are more likely to have things sink in and stick to the grill. Weber says flat side up, but I've seen plenty of people that make it work just fine with the pointy side up.

    You forgot to mention the most important part - to clean the “anti spider net” or whatever you call it. It’s right below the knobs, on burner tube. If it’s blocked, burners wont get enough air and you’ll get “dancing” flames. Clean it with a toothbrush once in a while and you’ll get constant efficiency of the grill.

    • @GrillTopExperience
      @GrillTopExperience  Před 5 lety +1

      A good grill should last a long time. You see a lot of people that are still using the original Genesis. You'll have to replace some parts like the burners and flavorizer bars, but the body should last if you keep it covered. I managed to cook on my $100 grill for nearly 8 years, but probably should have tossed it after 5!

I already have a newer Weber charcoal grill which is easy to clean and thought maybe I would add another gas grill but no thanks. Most people just leave all of that grease and just clean the grates which just attracts insects and rodents to your backyard. The flattop griddle is the way to go, 5-7 minute cleanup and done. Not to mention much cheaper, half the price.

      Pointy/thinner side for foods that tend to stick and for foods that you cook slower at lower temp (fish, chicken drumsticks, sausages). I keep the flat side up on the left, where the searing station is, for steaks, burgers, etc. and the pointy side up on the right. Unless I'm cooking a lot of one type of food, in which case I flip one grill.

    Hi just bought a new grill and used it every day for 3-4 days and it caught on fire underneath,,, l guess the fat in the drip pan was the cause ...can I use tin foil to cover this and disgard each time to prevent this in the future?

    • @GrillTopExperience
      @GrillTopExperience  Před 4 lety

      Weber says not to line the bottom tray with foil. They are concerned it will keep the fat from draining out and cause more fires.
      At the end of every cook, I'll turn the heat back up to burn of the grease on the bars and that can help keep things from building up too much. You just have to be careful with that. I cooked 30 hamburgers and it was pretty greasy and ended up with a small grease fire.

    • @GrillTopExperience
      @GrillTopExperience  Před 4 lety +2

      The first thing to do is brush them from side to side with clean grill brush. Then the next step is try a pin or a paperclip to see if you can dislodge whatever is stick in there. If that doesn't work, it's probably about time to replace them. Regular maintenance can keep them flowing nicely since it's much harder to start from a really dirty grill.
